** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

Im awaiting delivery of my Sapphire today.. For reasons of my own Stupidity, I also have a Powercolor 5770 being delivered today as well.

I was going to keep the Sapphire but if its as naff as it looks in the picture, I will be keeping the Powercolor.

Im guessing this means no Dirt 2 Voucher :(

Must have just missed out on the last few of the old stocks.

It does look like the 5750 cooler.

OcUK were awaiting new stock yesterday evening, I guess this is what they were sent so in that sense it is new.

Surely must be better than the stock fans?

Also, I am guessing this is why they were on Special last week as they got word from Sapphire so wanted to clear old stock?

Likewise, may explain why the Powercolors are on off this week?

The AIB's are beginning to customise, although I feel this is also to save money?

Is it a deecent fan?

I ended up getting the powercolor seems to cool just as well as the stock fan (currently idling at 34c), was a little bit dissapointed as I wanted the reference cooler as I feel it looks nicer but the powercolor non reference seems quiet and does the job just aswell, the only thing im not that keen on is it will be exhausting hot air into the case!
 
LOL - I just had the courier knocking at the door with both.

I chose the sapphire.

I think this "Egg" cooler is an ATI fan maybe? Asus/Sapphire/Powercolor seem to be using the same one?

Does yours have the fattest heatsink pipes in the world?

Like yourself, I think the "Squirrel Hutch" casings look nicer, HOWEVER, most of us have adequate case cooling which combined with this heatsink equals WIN.

It is likely also that given a few months a would have placed an after market cooler on anyway.

Yea it also has huge heatpipes plenty of copper on it which is only a good thing!,

Doesn't seem to have affected any of my temps at all now stressing my CPU it hasnt gone up 1c and the GPU temp does not change, I guess my cooling is adequate so this version will do. Doesn't seem too bad at all
 
What are the accoustics like from the fan?

Also, how many pins is your fan connector? Mine is 2. Does that mean no variable speed?
 
Can't hear the fan at idle when sat in windows even with the case side off, just played some L4D2 and its nice and quiet there too.
Turning it up to 100% in the drivers you can clearly hear it, but no idea how hot it has to get to go that loud.

Not compared performance yet though lol. :)

Just played some L4D2 with mine seems to run it about 50-80FPS in the swamp level not a clue how intensive that is!

That's at 1920x1200 maxed 4xAA/16AF, the 5870 I had before for purely playing games like this seems hardly worth it now!

Doesn't seem like a bad little thing, gonna get clocking soon and see what it's truly capable of, I'm baffled by how small the Juniper die is aswell!

Usually with GPU fans 2 pin will mean fixed speed.

3 pin will be PWM (variable).

Unless they've set it up to be voltage controlled in some other way without RPM monitoring... which would be odd.
 
Fair enough. I didn't look at what fan connecter mine had before putting it in the case, sod taking it all out so I can see it now lol.

Had thought for a second you were all assuming it wasn't possible to control fan speed with 2 cables. :p

Oh its very do-able, but it would be odd.

Usually when they use a 2pin fan its cost saving thing so just fixed speed.
 
Yeah 1GHz is easy enough with a small vgpu bump. :)

You will probably find you can max out the CCC at 960MHz on stock volts no fuss.

Memory clocking is a lot more varied, some people find it easy to max out the slider at 1450 ish, others get stuck at around 1300.

Just make sure you test performance before and after your memory overclocking as once error checking kicks in your performance will divebomb, but won't give any graphical errors.
 
How much of a vgpu bump on average are we looking at?

Is there any guides or discussions on volt bumping these?

I take it MSI afterburner is the tool to use?
 
Just seen they've put the 5770 on TWO, Lmao so tempting but I've only just sold my 5870 because I didn't use the full potential enough :/

That said 5770 Crossfire is the way to go by the looks of it as it beats the 5870 most of the time!
 
Nice bhavv ill wait to see if they bring any quad heatpipe coolers out that will work in xfire though. For now ill change the paste to mx3 and add for mini heatsinks to the back. never took a gfx cooler off, is it all the screws on this pix inc the x clamp to take off the shroud?

The Zalman VF950 is just adequate for running two cards at 1000 mhz without any noise, but the first card still hovers to around 85-95 degrees with standard dual slot spacing when using them in crossfire, but I havnt had anything crash or become unstable yet at 1000 / 1445. The memory chips were actually surprisingly cool when I touched the ramsinks on them after heavy load and opening my case, my new DDR3 modules actually run hotter.

I had Thermaltake Sorbs before, and those were too wide and collided with the DVI output box. 1000 Mhz on the stock cooler was possible, but very noisy. The stock cooler at 100% speed also allowed me to reach a stable 1050 Mhz clock at sub 85 degrees, but the noise with two cards is unbearable.

For removing the cooler, it is just the 4 screws around the GPU bracket. The rest are for the large heatsink that covers stuff on the front, plus two additional screws on the side I/O pannel for the top edge of the black heatsink shroud. If its your first time, then remember not to overtighten the screws when reapplying them, and also that no electrically conductive material like some pastes, screws, heatsinks etc can come into contact with the PCB of the card or it might fry.
