*** Official Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Thread ***

Ive just been palying this for a few hours, and while its very good, theres one thing which ruins it.

Snipers.

Seriously, what? I dont think Ive yet played a game where at least 50% of the players wern't snipers. I dont mind when you have perhaps one, maybe even two. But when the majority of the players are sitting 5 miles away in a ghillie suit racking up kills through the scope, its just boring. I play games like this so I can get invovled in a decent firefight and enjoy a battle, but instead I spend most of my time getting shot from some ******** with a scoped rifle.

I joined a server early...spawned...1.5 seconds later, shot in the back by a sniper. Respawned at a different location entirely, survived about 5 seconds before...getting shot by a sniper. The third time, I followed a teammate into a building only to get shot by a pistol...being held by a sniper hiding behind a door. Nearly every player I came across wore a ghillie suit.

What the hell is peoples' obsession with being a sniper? It's not as if these players are even good. Yeah, they might be able to shoot. But they never seem to attack objectives and quite often are sniping from the same predictable spots, oblivious to their surroundings. At least it makes them easy to knife.

I seriously wish games like this would make more effort to curb the amount of snipers. It's not as though I even dislike camping; I'll happily hunker down for a few minutes to defend a bottleneck while the point is being captured, or lie in wait for a few minutes anticipating some enemy movement. For more tactical, slwoer games like this, its simple common sense. But something about getting shot for the umpteenth time by some knobber sitting on the grassy knoll thinking hes a l337 sn1p0rz whilst he racks up the kills really makes me seethe.

Seriosuly, snipers; go away.

Rant over.

Hahahaha What you say is probably true but your rant made me laugh so much about snipers lol:D:D:D:D

Maybe the best thing to do is don't run out in the open or in 90% of the places normal people go. Im Rank 34 atm and do not seem to have any problems with snipers at all because I use my surroundings to progress up the map not running down the middle of a road waiting to be shot. You can't come into this game with the run and gun attitude of COD as your just going to get shot in the head.

I was in a game yesterday, the new snow map... About 70% of our team were snipers and the rest just gave up and started messing around. I got bored and kept storming in as med, layed down a couple of bombs on the mcoms, dies a lot but tbh, i dont care about score. Within about 5 mins of me doing the above, the rest of the team realised that it was possible to win so started pushing with me. Low and behold, we won, and the next map, and the next. We dominated.

I think people are just bored now as there is nothing to achieve after rank 24...

I agreed. It is a bit short sighted of them to not have any further unlocks past then. Even just a new pistol or something at L50 would be nice.

My major problem with it is the stupid picking of gear. You can only pick one set at a time. Which means that if you are an engineer and using the tracer dart then switch to a sniper you still have a tracer dart. Would be much better if you could have individual setting for each class. It's a pain changing them or worse running up to someone and shooting them with a tracer dart thinking its a pistol  :D

Who said anything about running and gunning? I came to BC2 specifically because I was bored of games like MW2 which are esentially just deathmatches. I am the kind of player who prefers to skulk around, using cover and not venturing into the open. My favourite game is Red Orchestra on the PC, a game which is geared towards exactly this sort of realism (a game which is fantastic, incidentally, partly because snipers are rare). Even so, sometimes it's neccessary to expose yourself in order to reach the objective, or cross a street, or whatever.

The problem is, it doesn't help. What you're saying would be applicable if there were a reasonable number of snipers in the game. Then yes, running into the open would be a bad idea, and I wouldn't be so frustrated about being shot down. But there's so many snipers it just doesnt seem to matter.

I would love to see sniper numbers limited. Then perhaps more players would choose to use assault classes and we could see more big firefights and really involving battles that this game is designed for.

I think I saw someone mention earlier that sniping is less of a problem when not playing hardcore (is this true?), and if Im honest, Ive not tried normal mode yet. But I much prefer hardcore for the more realistic feeling with no crosshairs etc, and bullets which actually do damage, so Im loathe to go and try it.

I don't have those problems with kit selection? Every now and then it happens to me. But mainly my following kits stick to:

Engineer - UMP 45 SA # M-1911 # RPG-7 AT # IMP DEMOLITIONS # EXPLOSIVES LEG POUCH

Assault - M416 # M-1911 # 40MM GRENADE # MAGNUM AMMUNITION #

Medic - MG3 SA # M-1911 # MEDIC KIT IMPROVED HEAL # MEDIC KIT IMPROVED RANGE

Sniper - M95 SNIPER SPECACT/GOL SNIPER MAGNUM/M24 SNIPER # M-1911 # MORTAR STRIKE # 12X HIGH POWER SCOPE # SNIPER SPOTTING SCOPE

As you can see, most of my kits are tailored for each class, giving each class strength in what it is for. So if I am having a bad time being a medic, its mainly due to squad being spread out and no one being around to help, so i would switch to assault.

I caved in and bought the Onslaught mode which I'm quite impressed with even though it was only 2up so far. I didn't realise you could use it solo too which is great for flying practice

Ah fair enough I completely agree with you on that point. Hardcore is full of snipers although I never play Hardcore anymore as it is pretty meh tbh.

Normal isn't all that bad. You have to be more precise with your shots as people have more HP so headshots are more critical. You can't camp as you have the kill cam and spotting. I wouldn't say Hardcore is worse or better. Normal induces a totally different style of gameplay.

Yeah its head shots only for one hit kills on normal. Anywhere else on the body and you get hit and can relocate.

I tried playing normal mode for the first time this morning. There are definately much fewer snipers playing in this mode, alas, I got tired of pumping 15 rounds into someone only for them not to die after about 40 mins or so. So I went off to find a hardcore match. Which I did.

Spawned. Ran literally 20 feet. Shot by a sniper.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Looks like I can either play vanilla BC2 and put up with crappy underpowered weaponry, or play hardcore which is generally more enjoyable, but is plagued by hidden snipers either shooting me if im in the open or calling in mortar* strikes on any building I take cover in.

*Mortars which seem to have the same destructive cabability as a 155mm howitzer barrage, I notice :/

This game seems awfully laggy once again. I'm trying for all bronze since they finally fixed the weapon stats, but the lag and playing with randoms is doing my head in.

You need to play it like S&D on mw2. Use your surroundings more. Use smoke and vehicles to move through open ground. Wait for their shot then run to the next cover. It's great fun.

I've been playing MAG for the last few months although after the recent patch which nerfed the shotgun I've had enough of the game.

I'm thinking of giving Battlefield a go. Is the demo representive of the actual game? Is there a clear distinction between the classes (Media, etc) because in MAG I wouldn't say it was? Is it too late for me to pick this up? I'm assuming everybody is god like on it now.

I'd say there was a pretty clear distinction yes. Example, only medics can revive, only engineers have rocket launchers, only recon have sniper and motion sensors, only assault can dish out ammo.

There are tons of people starting each day. I see lots of <level 10 in every game.

There is a new edition of the game coming out in a few weeks which will include all the DLC so not sure if you want to wait for that or not?

Thanks for that. What's the new edition called? Also, how many DLC packs have they released?

I think it's the Ultimate Edition. AFAIK, it contains the VIP code which unlocks all the maps, the four SPECACT kits (not sure what they are), the Onslaught co-op and possibly all weapon/vehicle unlocks so you don't have to level up to gain access to them.

EDIT: And it contains a copy of Battlefield 1943, if you don't already have it!

EDIT2: Be warned though - the game will drive you MENTAL. Many times I could kill my own grandmother when I see my killer surviving with 5% health. :(

Was considering buying but it sounds way too irritating to be a lasting game.

On the other hand, a m95 can fire much faster then you'd expect its just the easy accuracy that makes it stupid.

Just seen that the PR mod for ARMA needs Operation Arrowhead so I'll buy that instead now though the standard game can be a tad slow I can always go back to mowing people down in a DPV on Jalalalabad

when I see my killer surviving with 5% health.

even lfd2 has bleeding out effects from low health

I saw this too this weekend. Currently trying to plat the aek. My accuracy went from 23.57 to 22.17. I was actually playing with lightweight a lot and was getting very good with iron sights but this weekend felt like the lag fest before they fixed it. My KD also went from 1.40 to 1.35. I rage quit a lot in the weekend.

Finally got round to buying this just before the weekend; done about half the story and played about 3 and half hours of Online and level 3 at the moment.

Great fun online imo - hardly had any lag (touch wood) and very addictive. Definitely has that 'one more go factor'. Sometimes get frustrated with snipers - they seem to kill you one shot pretty much anywhere but with the M24 I need to get them right in the noggin. I know they have more powerful rifles then me and once i get levelled up that'll change but a bit annoying at the moment.

My K/D is 1.13 atm so happy about that so far :D
