** Official Carmageddon: Reincarnation thread **

have just had my first go and love it! even at this stage it is really quite playable :)

X360 pad integration is seemless and it looks cool too

just won my first race by destroying all the other racers....pretty happy with that. the opponent launcher pickup is superb! Screwie Lewie had no chance :D

At about 2pm today I'm going to be streaming - I'm going to attempt to slaughter all pedestrians :)

Lol I liked how the game crashed.

Seems to me they are too hooked up on keeping the game like it was before. They do need to branch this game out and come out with fresh ideas. Otherwise they may as well just sell us the old Carmageddon 1/2 or 2000. (btw I think that Carmageddon 2 was the best probably)

Before streaming today I overclocked my 7950 using one of my saved profiles in Afterburner which isn't too overclocked, but a little above stock. After the crash, I put it back down to stock speeds.

I guess that was enough to push it over the edge.

Oh, and...

nobody should really do initial impressions on Pre Alpha, because it only really contains the basics
The developer has explicitly invited comments. Initial impressions are just that... initial impressions, which one can make about any entity at any stage of development.

The best game would be a Carma1/2 hybrid. Overall I preferred Carma because:
-No annoying missions
-Tracks probably a bit better overall
-Felt faster (may not have helped that Carma2 ran pretty slowly on my PC)
-Physics felt better for wrecking other cars i.e. extended shunting, more forgiving scoring (not requiring content when they hit walls etc)

However a few improvements from Carma 2 that are needed
-Models instead of sprites for peds
-Better crash physics outside of wrecking e.g. split in half, dismemberments etc

Overall a 'remake' approach seems correct given the clamouring there has been for one for some long; also I suspect a significant proportion of backers will be satisfied with something similar to the old games just brought up to date technology wise.

Couldn't agree more, HangTime. Carma1 was just great but the sprites (although funny) got old quickly. Carma2 updated things but the engine never felt quite right to me & always struggled to run smoothly. CarmaTDR2k was ok but don't remember playing it much.

My problem with Carma2 was that you had some "missions" levels. I just wanted to drive around and wreck my opponents! I don't want to complete laps in specified time :(

My second problem was that you could get wrecked. In the first carma you could throw yourself off tall building at high speeds and fly for miles. It was hilarious. In Carma 2 if you did this you could get wrecked so really ruined the fun.

I tried it last week and found it so much harder to waste my opponents than compared to carma 1 and 2. I hope that's going to be fixed.
It's also so much easier playing with a keyboard. The default sensitivity on the game pad doesn't seem setup correctly.

It's just a tech demo, Stainless said this isn't even the early access, I'm sure there will be difficultly levels added as time goes on. Stainless are probably the best developers for listening to what it's fans want.

Yeah there were some nice long straights and you could clip a small ramp and fly across the map, especially if you picked up the hot rod bonus :D Great stuff.

Did this last night, the last couple Peds are a real pain to find.

Also found out through digging through the .lua file for controls that if you press right ctrl and e together it takes a screenshot without the hud. Saves in the root installation folder as a .tga file.

Yup, those who didn't get the extra early access should be getting it today - I think it's also available as general early access for anyone to buy into.

Stainless did a twitch preview yesterday of the new updates coming today:

Early Access codes for those of you who should be getting it today (Kickstarter backers on the lower tiers, and PayPal backers on the lower tiers) should be getting mails from around midday.

However - I never got an email a couple of weeks ago, so had to go via the "get my keys" thing from HumbleBundle, details of how to do so here
