Official Crysis Demo thread

or, they could relese it now, everyone gets an awesome game, which even in low-med is still grahpically excellent, and then when the new DX10.1 comes out we can all get better cards and play it at max, thus prolonging the life of the game, and you're enjoyment, and you're wallets enjoyment

it isnt all laggy and crappy, jeez, just run it at a lower res, or slightly lower settings, or a smaller res; it's not the end of the world.
playing for 6 hours today the only point at which i lagged was jumping from a building in the process of being turned into scrap metal as i blew a barrel up, sending the enemies inside flying through the windows outside and the car chasis being thrown 20 feet in the air

how doesn't it perform as well as it should do? it performs exactly as it says on the tin, them saying the recommended spec includes an 8800 series doesn't mean you'll get max settings with said series.

inside huts looks fine, what exactly could they do differently? paint the walls?

Actually they said it would scale back.. 1-2 year old systems or so?, well what a load of bull and they are lying, if anyone enjoys a good slideshow then be my guest.

I dunno about you but inside huts on medium settings, objects look like crap basically.

I can mention other games that would look almost as good as this, soon to be released and i bet they dont perform as lagtastic as this game.

Oh, and just a word... some folk complaining about whats destructable & whats not.... Just about everything can be if you set it up to be. Its got nothing to do with the engine being bad or blah blah, its the mapper. In theory you could set up everything in the map to be pretty realistically destructable but imagine how long that would take?

Was playing on very high, it is playable but have to bear with the really bad slowdown in some area.

High is the best option to play on atm.

1920 x 1200
X6800
88GTX SLi
4GB
Vista 64

No problems here on vista 64 in 64 bit version.

No Stuttering with everything on high.

Q6600 (G0) @ 3.6GHz (1800 X 8)
Gainward Bliss 8800GTX @ 620/ 2100
Nvidia 163.69 (Latest WHQL)
Dell E207WFP 20.1 Widescreen @1680 X 1050

Excactly, by the time you are finished with scaling back settings and resolution you end up with 1024*768, medium details, no AA/AF which just looks pants, it hardly looks better than HL2:ep2 and even then it is still not playing smoothly.

And if Robbie_G wants to call me a n00b again I can only say come say it to my face you git.

Got this lastnight.

It defaulted settings to very high. You could call it playable, just. Switching to high made a massive difference, very quick and smooth.

So far I've enjoyed the demo.

This is quite bizarre - I'm now getting a few more fps than I used to on very high (post processing set to medium as its brain aching the motion blur!!)

All I did was drop my cpu from 3ghz to stock speed (333fsb to 266) then raise the ramspeed from 666mhz (was running 1:1) back to 800MHz stock but tighten the timings from 5-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-13.

I'm now getting 20-35fps outdoors but in heavy jungle areas with lots of shader intensive greenery it does go a bit lower.

not bad, looks like cpu speed makes zero difference at all and its more about efficiency of memory<>cpu and after that it's all down to the GFX card.

Tried the demo this morning on my 4GB 3.7gigglehertz E6600 rig with a 7900GTX. As I gave up on PC gaming ages ago I wasn't expecting much from the detail settings I could toy with.

My rig could manage solid frame rates at 1024x768 with medium/high settings. The game seems decent, takes me back to the FarCry days (imo best fps ever) stalking nasties through the jungle.

I found a lot of poor looking bits here and there. The ram shackle hut that you kill some enemies at looked completely crap from my end. I'll play the demo properly tonight anyway, but so far its not really made me go "WOW".

http://www.techspot.com/article/73-crysis-performance/page4.html

There is a difference between Vista and XP running High settings with a 8800GTS and HD2900XT and it is Vista once again that is slower even though DX10 should give the same IQ but faster performance.

Looks like I will also install it on my XP partition and see if that is playable at High without annoying me.

Finally got this up and running last night. Installing with Vista was a bit of a pig but got there anyway.

Rattled in with all settings on very high and the game plays very well for me. I settled for high settings and I must say, can't wait to get into the game proper.

Need to sort out the tearing though. Not an issue in game but a bit annoying on cut-scene's and intro's.

I am surprised by how well it runs on my PC considering how good it looks. When I say well I mean it sort of averages out between 25 to 35 FPS. As someone has said before me it is a very smooth playable 25 which is smoother than many games when the frames drop to say 35. The frame rate also is fairly constant in that it does not dip and peak that much.

At first I was only able to select medium object detail and then after playing a bit I quit to the main start menu and was able then to select high. I have not played around with the settings that much, so for now I have the settings on high except for shadows, post processing and physics. I am using my native resolution of 1680 x 1050 and have not enabled AA. I will try high processing tonight as I am a big fan of blur.

The only negatives I have is that it can look a bit cartoony which I suspect can be remedied by the very high/ultra settings which how ever is not an option for me. Also I find the physics a bit weird as objects can have no real weight to them. In the huts it was easy to knock down whole walls by just bumping something over - it's as if everything is made out of cardboard.

I know a lot of people are moaning about the performance but I remember only too well that Far Cry ran a lot worse on my old rig when it first came out. The gameplay is great and very much what I expected and the enemy AI do not have appeared to have changed that much apart from them throwing granades.

Got an 8800GTX, Q6600 @ 3Ghz, Raptor Raid Array, 4GB Ram and an X-fi Fatality and it runs pretty badly.

Maybe it is the drivers I am using but it isn't exactly super smooth at 1680*1050. I have to have some settings on high and some on medium.

Just been playing my old PC, it's a P4 3.40Ghz (northwood), X800Pro 256MB, 1GB DDR and it runs very well, I'm really impressed with how it scales back so nicely. It's running at 40-30 FPS, dropping to 25 in heavy fights, 1280*1024 resolution, every setting on medium with no AA.

Have you installed the Microsoft patch?

What drivers you using?

I'm using 163.76 and it plays nice at 1920x1200.
