Official Crysis Demo thread

Hehe,

Running smooth here on the rig below at 1650x1080....

Thats with no AA, about 50/50 low-medium settings :(

not bad considering though.....thought I would post to give people a point of reference lol.

Set SLI to forced alternate frame rendering and SLI gives a fair boost.
Did this on a mates PC at the LAN I was at this weekend and he went from worse performance than me to around 50fps. Both of us running on high on XP, in 1920x1200. He has 2 8800gtxs and only a core2duo 6700.

I tried that but got no increase and nvidia themselves have stated SLI isnt supported but will have another go and report back if I get any improvements

I was playing on XP and then rebooted to my Vista partition and started playing with the same settings at the same point in the game and playing with XP just feels smoother and less laggy even though the framerate is roughly the same, even with the edited CVAR's

Try the following:

Go to View - Toolbox (so it shows in the editor)
Click on Lightingmorning
Click on HDR

See if that shows your textures as the HDR may be overdoing it and making the ground appear white.

Tried it m8 but its still the same, followed the tutorial to make a map, generated the terrain and surface texture. Still looks white. Also i noticed i CTRL G doesn't work either. I'm using the 64 bit editor , not sure if its identical to the 32 bit one?

Bhwhahahahahah, he was right

Funny post i got from crysis-forum.

Something to read while you wait.

"im DLing on 50BS. wtf? it's gonna take the hole day Sad "

"only 1 hour till demo finished to DL"

"only 34 minutes..."

"only 5 minutes. omg. omg. omg."

etc etc.

than we can see posts like:

"demo down. im installing now. 15 mins to play. woot"

and then:

"8 min..."

"demo installed. im off to play."

and then a flood of comments regarding the quality of the game ranges from:

"this game rocks!! best game ever. crysis ***"

and

"what a piece of 5h;t. worse game ever. u cant drown the turtle and make it spill out the location of the aliens"

to posts like:

"what? i cant run this on my geforce 5200?? i dont understand..."

or

"i thought this game is an MMO..."

and when everyone is done giving first impressions we will start seeing more in depth crits like:

"i think this gun is over powered"

"i think the NKs do really stupid things like they dont throw nades and flank right"

"i can't really go anywhere like i thought i would..."

"i cant run this game on my 12 months old rig. Angry"

and there will be those who will be realistic and face the inevitable fact:

"yeah. they promised a lot of things, but games are never everything they were promised to be\do"

and those who will defend the game with their life (since they bought a 1000$ rig for it):

"you dumb m0#%r fuc$@#r, this is the best game ever you console fanboy. STFU"

or

"this is only a demo. the final game will be better. can you say DEMO??"

and then the game will be out and we will all see that the faults of crysis' demo are exactly the faults of the final game but those of us who can run it will be happy with it either way.

did i miss anything? feel free to add your insights into the forum's future

A little bit of help please, I'm wondering if my pc will run the game at all, my specs are 3200xp athlon, 7600gt, 1 gig of ram. I don't mind playing on min settings really. Just don't want to download the demo and find that it was pointless trying.

You will be able to play it on the absolute minimum but its better than nothing.

Maximum PC - Cevat Yerli Crysis Interview
Maximum PC magazine published a technology focused Crysis interview with Crytek CEO and President Cevat Yerli on their October 2007 issue. Below is a short summary of the main topics from the one-page interview. Thanks to littlecheez9 for this!

- The game physics in Crysis will be handled by the CPU only so there will be no GPU or PhysX PPU aided physics acceleration.
- What comes to digital distribution Crysis will not be available on services such as Steam but on EA Link (EA Store).
- Crysis is highly optimized for both single-core and multi-core CPUs.
- The benefit from having multi-core CPUs will only be better performance i.e. higher and smoother frame rates.
- Cevat believes that GeForce 8800 GTS or Radeon 2900 will be good for running Crysis at 1280 resolutions on maximum settings but for 1600x1200 or higher you'll need faster hardware."

I'm amazed how playable it still is at my native res of 1600*1200 using the xp very high details cheat - I was able to play through the whole demo without ever really thinking "god this is unplayable !" ...

Bring on the full release :)

im suprised i can play on high detail with the added cvars considering how good it looks....i only got a 8800gts lol.

im on xp btw

Generic , Crytek told people that this engine would bring current HW to its knees, just like Far Cry did back in the day...

The did fail to mention it would look ***** on the current hardware though didnt they ;)

Anything below 40-50fps is ***** imo, so in order to achieve this even on a GTX (as sli isn't supported) you are forced to play on low/medium for descent frame rates
Doesn't matter how you cut it, thats just poor

Farcry was playable at a level of graphics which for the time were on the par to pretty good depending on your hardware, so i wish people would stop bringing it up as its not the same at all. Farcry was ok for the time AND had future potential, Crysis isn't even on the par at the moment. I hope they bring some drastic performance boost measures and fixes for release, i have cancelled my pre-order personally to see how this pans out as in general i can only play a game once through

/end rant

Right, so these edited configuration files that a lot of people seem to be using to get all the good bits of the Very High setting but without the massive performance hit: are these only applicable to XP users, or is it worth using them with Vista, too?

your not the first to complain about how bad it runs but complaints are mainly coming from vista users......to say it just runs crap isnt true at all.
it runs fine in xp..the framerates may not be sky high but aslong as its smooth thats all that matters.

i can understand the frustration of guys on vista who were meant to get exclusive DX10 features now xp is also using those features with far better performance ...but personally i just think vista kinda sucks for games at the moment....every game ive tried on vista is poor compared to xp.

hopefully microsoft can improve things so the blame isnt always put on the software companies.
