*** Official DCS World Thread ***

Nope , Black Shark 1 is abandonware (no updates , no point buying it) it does not work with DCS world

Get DCS: Black Shark 2 (full version) -> http://store.steampowered.com/app/240280/
do NOT get the "upgrade version" aka
"Black Shark 2 - the quest to make users pay for a patch"

Ah I'll just stick with the A-10 and the free Su25. I assume I can somehow link the A10 I already have with steam to my DCS World account?

Got the huey on the basis that ill be surprised if it pops up at 80% off again any time soon.
I'll be surprised if it doesn't at Christmas, and with even greater reductions. Because these prices are only cheap compared to the full, milk-the-hardcore-fan prices, rather than compared to a normal, full price game. Those modules soon add up to solid money.... as I just discovered before realising I won't fly them much, and emptying my basket.

For products like this, right at the very niche end of the gaming spectrum, Steam is about generating revenue rather than users. So even if early adopters were to rebel against very steep reductions, it doesn't matter... the people buying in the bargain basement won't be playing for long. They're just a great way of subsidising development.

Hmm picked up the Huey and it seems far too easy to fly? I've seen forum posts stating it is easier to fly now as people complained it was too hard which seems to defeat the point of a $50 (pre discount) module?

Am I missing something - ie you need to turn on some options somewhere to make it difficult or does it just handle like a FSX heli now?

I don't have rudder pedals or a throttle control so was not expecting to be able to fly it until they arrive, let alone land it second try with just a joystick and keyboard!

The huey is pretty easy to fly badly, but very difficult to fly properly or at least it was last time I tried it
If they implement the multi player in one aircraft that will be sweet :)

FSX helis are harder in a sense that they do not have aircushioning modelled when you are hovering just above the ground. But DCS helis are harder because they have vortex ring- you cant just decrease collective to drop like a stone and recover by upping collective near the ground- if you vertically descend at more than 15ft/s you'll very likely end up in a vortex that can only be escaped by flying forwards (otherwise- crash)...

But I do find flying helis (I have ka50 only) in DCs to be easier than FSX on the whole, which to me only proves that more realistic is not always "harder". DCS aerodynamics/physics are the best in genre and a ton of fun :)

Picked up the Huey and P51 last night off steam, it's certainly not easy!

I've got as far as starting and flying the Huey, still need to work on the landings :-D

As for the P51 I've only got as far as starting it and then crashing trying to take off.

Been a month or so since I flew the huey. Need to very back into it.

Anyone fancy a fly tonight, probably the best mission so far is the csar one by wolle on the forums.

Been considering this game for a long time but never got around to it - presume these prices are too good to miss so what should I get as a newbie?

Oh, and will my ageing Saitek X45 cut the mustard?

Your joystick should be fine and I'd recommend to start with Flaming Cliffs stuff- FC3 or A10A (not A10C), Su25...

If you want to start with a fully modelled aircraft, Ka50 is a great choice as it much easier that A10C (no layers upon layers of avionics menus to go through) and yet a much more capable weapon than (also fully modelled) Huey.

Great physics modelling is equally present in all modules apart from FC3.

No chance.. They can bite on my hairy sack before they get any more money from me..

The fact that the Huey isn't even out of beta yet is what gets to me, not the fact that I paid top dollar for it.. Then they go and release another module and do the exact same thing again.. Way to shaft your early adopters, if that is Belsimtek's business model, they won't around for long!
