Which version of the hawk did you buy direct from VEAO ?

Bought the steam version, as it wasn't clear at the time about the whole SFM/EFM debacle but I was planning to spend the extra $10 on upgrading to EFM when it came out. Not anymore as I just feel conned with this sale.

Seriously considering getting my money back

Boycey0211, I bought it direct from VEAO when on sale , I get the better flight model when it is released , it wasn't too expensive

How long ago was Edge supposed to have been released?

<Commandant Lassard voice> Many , many , many , years ago </Commandant Lassard voice>

Having finally gotten around to playing this today and Flying a P-51 for the first time - I really want to get more planes and get really stuck into the game.

I know the modules are on sale right now on the DCS site. Do they normally go on sale in the Steam sales as well? I have money in my Steam wallet so I'd prefer to buy them on there....

No they don't, if you want them buy direct from the DCS store and install on the standalone client, Steam sometimes gets a 10% off but never the 60-80% con artists trick that the DCS store gets.

There is literally no point having the steam client installed, don't waste your cash

Are you sure? I could have sworn the steam sale discounts were in the same region as their own store.

Steam keys work on both steam version and standalone version

So if you want flexability in which way you launch DCS , buy modules from steam

Steam is updated but usually a bit later than the update from DCS directly

Sales on steam usually (but not always) follow a week or two after sales direct from DCS

Discounts on steam are usually very close to DCS discounts

Ah right ok. Well I'm still a newbie so I'll try to learn how to fly the P51 you get with DCS World before I sink any amount of cash into it. Thanks for the replies.

Steam DCS does see 60%+ off but not at the same time as the standalone sales and much less regularly (Rarely if ever see DCS flash sales on steam). Usually they're done in the main Steam sales ie Summer/Winter/Easter(?)

And yeah, just to mirror whats been said, never pay full price for a DCS module unless you just want to support the devs.

just had a quick check on steamprices.com, compared with the ED store the Bf109 (which I want) has been on sale once this year, compared with three times on the ED store itself.

While stuff like the A10 is regularly on sale on steam, it appears that the newer stuff is on sale for standalone only

I'll keep an eye out for it in the summer sale on Steam which I assume is coming up soon. How long does the stand alone sale last for? It doesn't seem to say on the site.

A little update:

Today we reached a significant milestone of moving the NTTR map into full internal testing such that our external testers can now pound on it.

There are still several blocking bugs, but we are working hard to resolve them has fast as we can.

Flight Sims are waning. I can see then gone in 5 years from now.

DCS suffers from outdated graphics (its engine dates to what, 2003? When was LockOn released?). HOpefully EDGE will put this right. Graphics sell games, its an old mantra but very true unfortunately.
