*** Official DCS World Thread ***

Sorry I misunderstood.

Nate

No problem, looks like the new installs should be up today so hopefully I'll get chance to see about getting some text back on the MFDs.

The ONLY way to get the 1.5 beta to work for me is to use stupid command prompt lines exactly as described on this page:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

Even managed to install a couple of modules this way too.

I know it's a beta, but why make it so confusing and difficult to try it out!!!!? Is it on purpose?

Why can't you use the module manager like Nate said? While I had 1.5 it installed all the modules I wanted it to.

It's totally broken for me on steam:

If I run it via steam I get a blank screen for about 10 seconds, then it crashes to desktop

If I run it directly via DCS.exe from inside the steam folder I get the exact same issue..

If I download the actual free beta from the eagle website, I can actually play - but I don't have any of my modules, just the Su and the P51 (but my god it runs nice, and looks way better!)

PS, I have 1Gbit internet, so I've deleted and downloaded the entire thing again twice (only takes 2-3 minutes) and it's still totally broken via steam :(

As above, plus it really isnt worth paying for it now when consumer is so close to release, it needs the higher res to be worth it.

I would not depend too much on the higher res, as it probably is not enough to make a huge difference. What we really need is a Flyinside type system where you can pull up gauges (and more important MFDs) to a larger size. Theres also the issue of spotting other aircraft, not likely to be hugely different with the CV1.

Still very worth getting for the experience of flying, nothing quite like it.

Getting back into DCS after a long time off of it.

I did forget how time flies (no pun intended) when playing. I had to keep referring to notes, completely forgot how to do manual coordinate targets! By the end I was in the air so long I was way past BINGO fuel, I made it back to the airport with a few 100 pounds of fuel, after my wingman decided to write off our outbound airport and causing me to divert. Unfortunately the diverted airport did not have refuel/rearm so ended it there.

I've not flown in absolute ages, waiting for the Nevada lol. I think I've forgotten everything pretty much, but just a quick glance at my crib note brings everything back. Apart from the CDU that is - I've no idea what I have written there :)

DOnt make it sound harder than it really is :D

Waypoints are switched by the waypoint rocker switch under HUD (see red arrow in pic below)

SOI- Sensor Of Interest -fancy name for activating the screen on which you can move cursor and make changes.

SPI -sensor point of interest- you basically flag a sensor of interest as the primary sensor, then all other sensors can be slaved to it, eg lock onto some tank in your TV targeting pod and then make your maverick "slave" to the same target. Or lock maverick onto some tank set it as SPI and "slave" TV targeting pod to it to see it better (just a couple of HOTAS shortcuts to press, see my crib note).

and instead of trying to memorise every little short cut on the HOTAS, just make this little crib note (or use mine lol) and glance at it from time to time - beats going through the entire tutorial simply because you forgot one little button combo.

Up until now I've only been on this once for about 30 minutes. Just took delivery of the Hotas X so hopefully now I'll get into it. Looks like so much to learn! Better start at it!
Even though it's a cheap joystick it's miles better than the one I had lying around way back like over 10 years ago. :D Feels nice.
