*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Got this over the weekend and spent a lot of yesterday playing it.

It took a little getting used to with the cover and sneaking thing but now I'm used to it its really enjoyable. I'm liking the sneaking up behind people and taking them out.

I've just travelled to Shanghai and have visited the strip/sex club and The Hive. I'm finding it quite immersive.

Really enjoying it so far. Brill!

I am finding that I forget I have Praxis points. I kept a few just in case the game came up with something odd but last night I realised I was sitting on eight! Bought the double take down to see what it was like and love it - not too easy to use it though as I find it rare to have to guards together often.

I think you're playing this game for the wrong reasons. It's a game for story tbh.

In that case, the story sucks so far = D

The first one had one and tbh it's useful for gamers/noobs who've never played this type of game before.

And it's not the same for any other game where you've had a hacking option say Fallout 3, New Vegas or Mass Effect 1 & 2 for example.

If by OP you mean over priced thats the whole point it's to make you pick and choose a prefered method of gameplay say you want to stealth it you go for the stealth options and worry about any others you want later

Perhaps RPGs are not for me after all but I'm going to keep at it (I still dislike how it's been dumbed down).

Surely if you were a developer you would try and make your game stand out and not just some generic shooter that gets an 8/10 on Gamespot. Heck, I would be happier if they included say 5 different skins for computers and keypads, it is a big part of the game after all.

This has also just reminded me about the possible entry routes into a building or shall I say, walk around the corner and through a vent.

I was referring to stealth when I said OP augmentations, I accidently messed up the conversation at the police station (early in the game) and after a couple of failed attempts at getting some intel inside for a side quest I put all my points into invisibility, which lasts for what +5 seconds?! Meaning I can basically sneak past everything.

Not really sure what I'm getting at here, but it just feels that good games are so few and far between now with Deus Ex being the latest to disappoint me = (

There's a few videos on the method on YouTube.

Didn't realise that apparently you only lose Foxiest of the Hounds if someone sets off an alarm (so hostile is fine) and kills by bot explosions don't seem to count against pacifist.

Take this with a pinch of salt though, that's the Interwebs findings so far.

Just completed it in 40h. Very good. Only 31 achievements, and at least one secret sidequest not done. Definitely will be replaying, possibly with a more gung-ho apprach. No idea where I killed someone but I suspect before I started paying attention on how I was taking people down. And I read a heck of a lot of ebooks; thought I'd get that achievement.

Slightly annoyed that in the end video they used the word "effect" instead of "affect". Yes, that's my only disappointment in the game.

i think your being massively picky tbh.

Yeah not every area has an alarm system. If you can get Smooth Operator for an area you are at risk, otherwise you can just go nuts.

Though tbh it was more fun to do Pacifist/Foxiest as a zero contact playthrough. Next time I do that I'm going to do a zero evidence speedrun. You can buy from traders but otherwise you must close all doors/vents (unless I get bored of doing it), turn no camera's, turrets or robots off (except in the Hangar where you must), no looting items, no hacking terminals (except where necessary), mines must be left where they are, sidequests will be ignored and of course, no combat. Only exception will be boss fights where anything goes simply because you can't avoid it.

Its a completely different experience to start gunning everyone down with pistol headshots and cloak. I'm going for a Shotgun only playthrough (in the hope I don't run out which I probably will...) so I'll be making use of all my mines and grenades unlike other playthroughs where I barely used them. Will be like playing Vanguard on ME2 all over again, throw a concussion grenade then run in like a nutjob and shoot everyone in the back :p

Unfortunately I killed enemies in the prologue, so can't get the pacifist achievement. However, I've still gone the stealth route since the game seems far more set up for stealth than shooting anyway. I don't think I've killed anybody since the prologue with the exception of a bloke who died while unconsciouss from a bot explosion on the save Malik mission.

Ok finally completed after playing only a few bits each day for I don't know how long. I gotta say it all seemed quite interesting to a point with the twist that happens in Singapore but once I got to Panchaea I thought it was all pretty much an anti-climax. I knew I was heading for one, I could tell earlier on, they almost redeemed themselves with the 'twist' in Singapore but thereafter not much to go with..

I am bit frustrated with this game. Being a huge Deus Ex fan, this had moments of brilliance in the game that rivaled the original but then it also had bits that were extremely reminiscent of Invisible War. It's inconsistent and that to me gives me the 'what could have been...' scenario playing on in my mind. They had things just right and then they seemed to lose grasp of what they had. The original Deus Ex is not a perfect game by any means but if you are going to tribute it look at what it did right - which was building a conspiracy around the player so much that player doesn't really know what ultimately the goal is until the end.

Also the trailers had bits of the story that I wanted to play but ultimately didn't really see or get to do. Sure there are bits accurately translated back to the actual game, but even some of the dialog was better in some of the trailers/teasers than used in the final game. I just have to ask WHY?!?!

On my second playthrough atm, hardest difficulty, going for pacifist, but not foxiest of the hounds as i'm really clumsy :P

Was anticlimax the first time around, can only echo everyone sentiments here. It captured the spirit of the original at the start, but just tapered off towards the end.

Hey guys got a problem with a run through for the ebooks!

Trying different routes/ways of finishing missions and accidentally stumbled on a new one: Sneaking into the basement of The Hive and going into the vents gets you a cutscene where a Belltower guard quizzes Tong over the Hacker.

Since then Tong isn't upstairs (mission did update) but also the door to his office is still locked which means I can't get the eBook within. Any ideas?

:)

Hope this isn't a repost.

Just noticed Deus Ex receiving quite a nice patch.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Update Released
Product Update - Valve
The new patch addresses a variety of issues as well as adds some new features:

Fixes:
- We have addressed various issues that can occur for players that would result in ‘stuttering’.
o Stutters that are the result of graphics driver shader processing are now removed or significantly reduced.
o Stutters that are the result of data streaming have been removed or significantly reduced.
o Performance has been improved and made more stable on dual-core systems. This could previously also result in stuttering.
- Fixed issue where some players couldn’t complete the Motherly Ties side quest.
- Fixed an issue where doors in Omega Ranch sometimes wouldn’t open.
- The TYM medical card should no longer fall through the table if an NPC’s body comes into contact with the card. Players already stuck in this area will need to revert to a previous save before the card fell through.
- Occasional hangs for some players during video-playback have been fixed.
- A crash on startup when running DX11 on a single-core CPU has been fixed.
- An issue causing Eyefinity setups to not be correctly detected for some players has been fixed.
- Fixed an issue where the HUD would get permanently disabled for some players.
- Fixed certain issues that caused the mouse cursor to be able to leave the game-screen on multi-monitor setups.
- Fixed an issue that caused the mouse cursor to not be visible in-game when the user has mouse trails enabled in Windows. We still recommend disabling mouse trails for a smoother in-game mouse cursor.
- Fixed issue where ammo count for collected guns is incorrect when Adams weapon is augmented.
- In DX9 mode:
o Fixed error message for some users when trying to use FXAA Medium or FXAA Low anti aliasing modes.
o Fixed shadow-mapping ‘lines’ on some graphics hardware when using anisotropic filtering.

Feature Additions:
- The Enter and Numpad-Enter keys can now be bound to game actions in the keyboard control menu.
- Intro logos can now be skipped on all but the first run of the game.
- Added windowed mode.
o Selectable in the menu, and can be toggled between windowed, fullscreen, and fullscreen windowed using ALT-ENTER.
- Added an option to change the text language of the game. This setting only changes the text language, the audio is controlled by the language option in Steam.

On top of this we are continuing to monitor for any issues that may need to be addressed in a future patch. One extra feature we can already confirm for a future patch is support for Nvidia 3DVision and Nvidia Surround.

We hope this patch will allow players to further enjoy Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Here is some info on the dlc due out next month-

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/09/15/d...lc-designed-to-encourage-aug-experimentation/

A Q&A session on the Eidos Montreal tumblr has turned up a few new details about the upcoming Missing Link DLC for Deus Ex Human Revolution. The new missions will be accessible through a separate shortcut on the main menu, meaning you’ll be able to play it whenever you like. You won’t have to revisit an earlier save to revisit the point in the story at which the missions take place.

“The Missing Link is about a fresh start for Adam. New augs, new weapons, new situation as the underdog. Since it is shorter than the main game, THIS is the time to experiment!” writes Eidos Montreal marketing man, David Bedard. The voices that can be heard in the teaser trailer above also get names. Netanya Keitner and Pieter Burke. They’re both Belltower operatives, and most likely Adam’s chief captors. Burke is a high ranking member of the organisation, and is described as “one mean son of a bitch.”
You won’t have to stare at Adam’s chest the whole time either. “You do regain your combat garb at some point in the DLC,” writes Bedard, “so enjoy those sweet abs while you can!”

The Missing Link will also add “new layers of conspiracy” and feature “sprawling new environments. It’s due out before the end of the year. There’s no price yet.
Sprawling new environments - interesting
Accessed from main menu- ok, but i hope you can also play it as part of the game as well.
No word on price, which would give some indication on how big it is.
