*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

What was last year my most anticipated game of 2011, is now looking like a dire piece of crap.

Glowing lines around anything interactive, that are visible from a mile away as long as you're looking at it. Carebear much?

Enemies that all have their backs to you and have the simplest patrol paths one could muster - conveniant.

Handily placed boxes, vents, and pickups that a 5 year old would call simplistic, let alone me/anyone else.

Awful animation - climbing down a ladder gives you a semi-third person, locked, view - useless. They couldn't even be bothered to create an animation for dragging a body.

Gunplay looks poor.

As I've said previously, graphics look 5 years old.

The woman is talking about extremely standard things as a selling points, when far more complex foundations & mechanics should basically be standard in a game.

The games a joke.

Been playing the first game over the last few days and I can honestly say, even after all these years, it still surprises me how good it is. Nothing else I've played matches this for gameplay, replay value or story line (though Mafia 2's was excellent). I do hope we end with something at least half decent when the third game ships.

In some ways I almost feel sorry for the developers in the sense that a game called Deus Ex: bla bla will always compared with Deus Ex. And it will always come off second best because.... it is being compared with Deus Ex.

Deus Ex: The Invisble War was actually a good game IMO, when judged on merit. And even that got a panning, so god knows what fans of the original are going to make of this when it comes out.

P.S: Why is everything I see of this game always a musty shade of yellow??

Biggest problem I see? It's yet again being dumbed down for console masses. I'm not elitist, I've only just got another gaming PC after a few years without but I see it how it is.

I find it hilarious how ladders are highlighted i mean seriously, no one would ever think of using the ladder if it wasn't glowing yellow?

Dumbed down to the level of drooling gimp from the looks of it.

I don't care what it looks like, if it's anything like the original I'll be buying it.

Honestly don't think anyone cares about gameplay any more, all people want is good graphics.

Then you need to stop thinking about that, I am at least one person.
You should have said "I honestly believe most people care about graphics".

Saying you don't think anyone outright cares about gameplay is, well... I can't say it nicely.

Hopefully we can turn off all the patronizing assists, most of us aren't that stupid we need glowing objects to tell us what to interact with.
Also, anyone notice the fade in//out edits? I understand one was used on the patrol to shorten the video and keep people watching but there was one in the vent, can we expect stupidly small areas with loading times because it's also on the console and they didn't want to go out and spend the effort conforming PC to their own capabilities?

:/

Still getting it though, excited none the less to see the story :D

Looking at the last video, I can't say I'm worried about the graphics, glowing objects maybe.....especially if there is very few to choose from to interact with. I'm beginning to think it might have been better to put this game under a different title, that may have done it more of a favour than anything else.

I think a lot of these issues can be answered by saying 'it's the first level'. It's meant to be easy, allow you to play around and try different options, and setup the sort of language you expect to see in the rest of the game.

Glowing lines around anything interactive, that are visible from a mile away as long as you're looking at it. Carebear much?

Firstly, we don't know if this is an option/something that fades over time. Secondly, I think it's a nice contextual aid. The players vision is augmented; they'd be able to use it to indentify objects of interest.

Enemies that all have their backs to you and have the simplest patrol paths one could muster - conveniant.

First level! They are going to make it easy for you try out the take downs etc. Many, many games do exactly the same thing.

Handily placed boxes, vents, and pickups that a 5 year old would call simplistic, let alone me/anyone else.

Again, to a degree, it's the first level, they want you to see all of what's on offer at this stage. Secondly, Deus Ex 1/2 were just like this many times as well.

Awful animation - climbing down a ladder gives you a semi-third person, locked, view - useless. They couldn't even be bothered to create an animation for dragging a body.

The animation is fine, a little quick I suppose but I don't see anything massively wrong with it. The view is perhaps a little close, but I don't see the issue with it being locked as you move up and down.

I'm not really fussed about this game one way or t'other, but it seems a lot of people just *want* to hate it because it's not a 100% copy of the first game.

Just checked out that gameplay trailer and wish I had not bothered. Do they really believe console gamers are so retarded that they need their hand held through levels? Glowing objects and shiny ladders so they don't get lost :( sigh....

Graphics are average, the movement looks like the whole thing is on rails. I have doubts about the map sizes after viewing that also. Probably pick this up when it goes down in price, 6 months after release. What a real shame to associate the deus ex name with this.

I don't really see the problem in glowing weapons etc. You are supposed to have augmented vision are you not? Sounds perfectly reasonable to me

Creating a plausible explanation for it using augmentations doesn't mean its acceptable. I seriously hope its only because its a tutorial level... because apparently seperate tutorial levels to get you used to the basics of the game are a thing of the past now, they must be worked into the story... (Deus Exs first level anyone? Yes here you are JC, Liberty Island with about 5 drastically different ways to get inside, numerous things you could do or ignore once in and enemies patrolling all over the place).

Its not exactly unsurprising people don't like it. Theres no explanation as to whether its a tutorial level thing only or whether the whole game has been made to cater for people who struggle with basic observation skills and that WILL impact on the game. Its only showed a little but i am getting the feeling the game is basically small set pieces with various ways around it before another linear section. I'd like to be wrong but thats the impression i'm getting.

Theres still a long time till August... maybe they'll release some better footage that isn't done on a frigging Xbox.

Meh, that didn't bother me really (even if it does seem a bit lazy given they did the semi3rdperson view for climbing...).

For some reason it annoyed me that they were going on about stealth, yet when you stabbed the guy straight through his chest several times terminator 2 style there is absolutely no blood on the floor when he dragged him away...

Yeah it looks like they went for gore over good game design. They could have just made him break the enemy's neck, which would be totally silent and leave no blood to deal with. A guy getting stabbed with a huge blade would result in a hell of a lot of noise and blood, but they chose to disregard this.

I'm not talking about gore effects. I don't want to see Dragon Age 2 visuals where you stab an enemy in the side and he head explodes in a shower of blood or something stupid.

I'm talking about basic stealth gameplay mechanics. You shoot a guy in the head or stab him through the chest, theres blood on the floor which trails off to where you dragged him to. Guy walks past and sees the blood, he gets very suspicious and calls the guards over to search, they find the body and end up alerted. You KO the guy and drag him away, no blood, no one gets suspicious. Unless you wanted to go a bit more indepth and have the gun lying on the ground get people attention or the lack of the guy patrolling there who should be which i can give or take, but blood pools on the floor are basic stealth mechanics.

No chance of that on a console, instead they have chosen to make it play out like an action/spy movie that you have semi control over. Console gamers will be jumping for joy with the over elaborate kills that get repeated over and over.
