Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

To be honest I am a little ****** with dfi, last night my board went pop damaging my pc power&cooling psu and I think killing a winnie that was 3d stable at 3.14Ghz.

I am going to rma the board, as for the psu it looks like thats going to get an rma also

What's your sig,

paul: arctic silver V (5) is the best thermal paste to use, and my god is it messy! :P
get a good clean environment before you apply it, and remember you only want a thin! film across the surface of the cpu. (i have a friend who applied too much, apparently it actually burned his cpu out!)

the above methods should work (i use the good old credit card to spread it in a thin film across the surface and then attach the hsf)

have a go putting the hsf into the slot before you do any of this though, it's quite a scary experience even without the cpu involved as it appears to apply a fair bit of pressure to get it into the slot, but dont worry about that as long as you dont force anything!

most people here seem to reccommend putting a small blob on the cpu and spreading with the hsf otherwise, i'm sure thats fine too, mine created a fair bit of mess creating an even layer, and took some time :)

what kind of warranty do the OEM cpu's come with? I bought a retail cpu myself purely for the assurance of warranty, and just have the stock hsf sitting in its box)

I used winflash on the front link, slightly confusing interface at first, but appears to be easy enough to use. I know this has been asked somewhere but is there any way to find out what version of bios you are using? (actually cpu-z does report the date, so i guess that's how it is worked out)

It appears there were new Nvidia Chipset drivers uploaded to the DFI website yesterday if people haven't seen them yet :)
looksie
(actually these being Nvidia i havent actually looked if they really are new, or just DFI being lazy in putting them up on their website :P)

The PSU is supposed to protect itself from a short(this is only thing that could have caused this) , so 'if' it was the mobo, and 'if' its killed the winchester then the PSU should be out on overload.

But if it was PSU that failed high, then its very easy to shove a few extra volts down the 3.3v line that would toast the board and the CPU.

Sounds like PSU to me.

This would be the recomendation for AS3 , but not AS5.

OEM is 3months or 31days, Retail is 3years.

Yes it can be a little confusing, but I'm glad you worked it out. I dont see it been any more complex then DOS based flash though.

As for new Nvidia drivers, they are old now , the link to drivers on the first posts goes right to the latest ( and always be updated)

If your not running 6.39 do it now.

Thanks for all your imputs, wish I'd known about CPU warranty before buying, seem's daft loosing all that warantee for £10 saving, will only buy retail in future,
P.S. are there any reasons to buy one OEM then or am I missing something here?

Used to be as the price difference between retail AMD's and OEM was fairly big. majority of AMD used to be OEM, but now AMD have switched to retail box and leveled the price to a better std.

Now its pointless since AMD even provide an easy stepping viewing pannel

what do you mean by this bit "an easy stepping viewing pannel", also do I have to mess about with CPU to overclock, like bridge anything or is it unlocked to overclock
Thanks

Yeah- not very clear way of explaining eh ;)

The CPU is visible in the retail packs, so you can actualy see all the stepping/week codes clearly.

Didnt know that ricco - hmm I might pop down to my local shop and cherry-pick one out - bit more expensve than OcUK, but it might be useful...

Think its worth it? and what exactly is best to look for - looking for say 3500+ Winnie...

The system spec you got there is almost identical to what I hope to end up with, is it running or you still awaiting bitz. If it's up what do you think of it, and have you any advice for me !

Well I was gonna order it but Im still awaiting my GFX and Mobo to arrive and then Ill get the rest of them - CBA to have parts lying around and it seems those 2 parts are the hardest to source, pre-ordering seems full of empty promises...

x850xt pe is my GFX on order...

Spec that I have kinda decided upon is:

3500+ Winnie
SP120 + Panaflo
DFI SLI-DR
GSKILL LE
Raptor 74gb
7k500 500gb (when out - unsure about DMAX 10)
7200.8 300gb (backup as v reliable)
NEC 3520 or LG 4163
Audigy 2 ZS
Mitsumi Floppy + Card Reader
CM Stacker + CrossFlow Fan
OCZ 520W
MX518 + Media KB
PC130 Headset
Medusa Headset
MX4 LCD Bay + Fan Controller

Damn first time Ive listed it entirely - really scared working out price  - about 2 grand I guess ...
That will be my setup - so yours will do you good - I wont upgrade again until dual core is mature (cant afford to :p)...

Well i got an OEM AMD 3200+ and i did phone up OCUK cos i was worried on the Warrenties and they said all OEM's are a year. So i do hope this is true and not what ricco said :(

Ok on a seperate note, i am about to purchase a Akasa amber quite 120mm fan, now i assume i can plug this into my DFI fan connectors, as its a 3pin connection?

But i am also wondering if i get the 4 pin to 3 pin adapters whether i can put the CPU fan (Panaflo 120mM) and the back case fan (Antec fan that comes with the Sonata case) on to the remaining DFI fan connectors?? Need help please.

I am no expert but looking in pdf manual (I D/Led of DFI site), there's 5 headers 1 to 3 have fan monitor function and last 2 normal supply.
The fans I have pick up through a molex (as part of the fan) so you dont lose a connection.

What grpahics card are you putting in that?

Should be a great rig :)

Hi folks,

Got an SLI -D which refuses to boot to my WD Raptor. I have the OS on that drive and when I select it in the bios as boot the bios just skips over it and tries the CD-ROM's instead.

However if I cannot my other SATA drive (HGST 80gig) it will boot to that drive and tell me there is no NTLDR file which is obvious correct. If I put a XP os on the HGST drive and put a boot entry for the raptor in I can then boot to the HGST when the os menu comes up, select the raptor OS and it will get into XP fine.

Just refuses to use the raptor as the boot drive. I had this issue with my old MSI neo 2 plat and had to go through this weird procedure of enabling and disabling the RAID function just to get it to boot to my raptor.

Any help would be appreciated.
