Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

Aurhinius - are you using the same sata controller for both of them as that is surprising if it is - what I would do is swop the sata port location around - might work and pick up the raptor first ;)

Duff man - I have a x850xt pe on order for that setup - so it should do fine I think - idd wont be a while until something else robs me of my cash :p

It is totally weird...

I have tried putting the raptor in as RAID but not clearing the data on the drive, tried spanning, tried stripping and it won't boot to that drive.

Just pauses for a moment then goes straight to boot from CD.

The only difference is I went from an nf3 to an nf4.

Only option I think is to reformat the raptor. I think there might be something funky up with the boot sectors. It is just dead annoying. It can read the drive no bother as I said. It just won't initially boot to it. If I boot to an intermediary drive and then point it back at the raptor for the os it starts XP without a problem. Just that initially boot partition detection in the bios not working.

Wondered if anyone else encountered the same problem. I see some folks have raptors but I suspect they did a reformat and reinstall.

Sadly not... I really have no idea what is up with it... Figure I am going to have to try and reformat it to see if that makes a difference.

Only thing I can think of is the boot sectors are a bit iffy due to use in the other board. Not sure how or why... I will be dead annoyed if I still cannot boot to it after a reformat.

Basicly a £100 does not work in this board....

Whats a safe temp for the chipset? Cause I can put my x800xl in either slots but when its in the top one the chipset sites at around 42 idle and when its in the second its sits at 35 but I loose about 300 marks in 3DMark05

My chipset idles at around 46c-48c, so I would say it's nothing to worry about:)

Hi
I've got the "D" up and running on a mat. Loaded the latest bios etc and it runs fine with one card (inno3d 6800gt). When I put 2 in however, the screen goes blank after windows splash screen. Both cards are fine on their own, I've got everything plugged in etc. Any suggestions?

Because its a Ultra-D?? which does the have the SLI feature unless you do the mod.

SLI-D or ultra-D? if its ultra-D then you have to get the sli bridge and do the SLI mod, if its the sli one then you remember to stick the sli bridge on? ;)

Had the same prob here. I fixed it by booting into safe mode, uninstalling the drivers. Then reinstalling them. Then it went into windows fine and I could enable SLI.

Anyone know if OcUK will have the DFI SLi-D in stock in the next 2 weeks? Wish they stocked some Patriot XLBK too, would be nice.

I phoned OCUK last wednesday, and was told," we expect them within a week",
Sli dr that is, so imagine they'll all be in same time

Take that with a rather huge pich of salt, from past experience.

Thats it I've had it with DFI, earlier in this thread I posted that my board flashed a couple of times killing a winnie that was stable at 2.7ghz (air cooled ) with 1.45v, and also a very good psu a pc power&cooling 510 deluxe.

I only got the board on the 18th so I have tried to get an rma, may I just add the it was never stable and half the time northbridge fan would not spin.

Heres the reply I got today.

Dear Customer :

Your Service Request for motherboard with serial number was
DISAPPROVED.

The reason(s) for disapproval is/are :
instability probably due to RAM incompatibility, can be resovled a) Must have2 sticks, in DIMM 2 and 4. b)Set jumper JP17 to 1 and 2. Also see FAQ, "Why my system becomes unstable and hot when switching "Dram 4V Select" jumper JP17 c)Adjust VDIMM 2.8V. c) Check for BIOS updates and see FAQ under memory subcategory for NF4, list of recommended memory.

Therefore, please DO NOT send this motherboard.

However, if you have further enquiries or would like to appeal such decision,
please call: +31-10-296-1840 (English service only)

Thank you for your kind attention.

Best Regards,

DFI Service Center

I am now well annoyed, £115 down the toilet for the mainboard, £150 for cpu and £195 for the psu

thats just seems like they have not understood the problem, it makes no mention of DOA only ram instabilities.
Also Its very unlikely (as already outlined in this thread) that a Mobo fault would kill everything. Maybe you had a bad voltage spike? , but nayway all is not lost as yet since you can still apply for an RMA with DOA and as a last resort contact your insurance and tell them that your computer blew up :)

very worrying

That's more than a bit off putting, (wheather it's killed other component's or not). Please keep us updated with this! in the mean time, What Other manufacturer would you go for this board? Hope you have some luck.
Have you tried posting here, http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22

I doubt its the mobo thats overloaded that psu and cpu - I would probably lay the blame at the psu - is there any reason why you think its the mobo that 'sparked' this all off? (marks or something)...

Also have you contacted p&cp about this aswell?

Its not that I dont believe you, just never thought it was possible for a mobo to do that kind damage, whereas the psu can quite easily...

GL tho mate...

i don't entirely understand why a few of you are buying SLi-DR's with x850pe's
unless you need the extra 4 sata ports you'd really be better saving the money and getting an ultra-d, the only motherboard difference is 4 sata ports extra (Raid 5) and SLi.
(the extras arent really worth £50 or whatever the price difference is :P)
i know i can't really talk, owning an SLI-DR, and not really using the extras, but i did opt for a 6800GT at least ;)

sounds like a rather odd problem again above :/ but i'd still say these boards are generally great.

paul, the only difference's i'd reccommend are.. don't bother buying an audigy 2 ZS, unless you can afford an audigy 4, then it's unlikely to be much better than the included karajan module.
also, unless you really need the adjustable rails on the OCZ 520w psu (handyish for overclocking so i hear), then an Enermax Noistaker 600W is cheaper and far more efficient, so will save on the electricity bill (oh, i see you have an enermax anyway \o/)

the xp-120 Heatsink is nice, but a nightmare to install so it appears :D
(an arctic cooling freezer 64 is almost as good and quieter, and a lot cheaper.. depends what you feel like splashing out on).

only thing i need to save up for is a nice dvd burner, just got a cheapo dvd-rom drive in at the moment :)
