Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

Thanks lads especially RICCO for advice on system

;) Had it all going for over a week now and no probs accept the sound module bracket,(easy fix}. The last few days been attempting overclock,(as per DanF Overclocking guide for newbies, and DFI's how to get going or faster).
So far I can't go any faster than 2575 (11x234 FSB) as I get errors in Prime, even with voltage,s adjusted, I Have also established my max memory speed is 300 mhz with setting's 2.5-4-7-4 (in Bios) at startup, with the LDT thing set to 3x.
Now I would like someone to tell me how to combine the two for max perforformce in games etc, I know that memory can have "tighter timming's", but I am lost at what these numbers should be Ideally. At present I am Prime stable for 4hrs, and mem test, test 8 stable for 30 mins and full memtest stable for 2 hrs.
My present settings are:
tcl 2.5
trcd 4
tras 7
trp 3.
with 1t timming, HT link's x3, my FSB is 286x9=2574

I'd try this matey - as you're at 286x9

Try 290x9 at 1.450v startup vid and 1.50v vid with 110% special vid (should get you 1.65v in total which is safe :)

Ram at same timings (2.5-4-7-3) although you should be able to do 2.5-3-7-3 with your ram i believe.

Chuck the ldt voltage up .1 and the chipset up .1 too.

Then try priming, also try 16m super pi test as this will burn in your processor, if you got time try the 32m test.

What stepping your cpu got ?

Also what cpu is it ? 3000? 3200?

Andy

I thought cpu 3500+Win CBBFD 0441RPAW in me sign was the steppings andy?
And I have been using S&M and super PI along with prime and memtest for about 4 days, Ive had thing's pretty hot! what worries me is the PWMIC in smart guardian is at about 48c startup without any overclock, and when I up voltages and run say S and M or Prime it goes to to 63c max, this is with all the fans set to come on on max and at 20c, CPU and chipset temps are fine though,
9 x290 puts me over 2600 I cant do any more than 2575 no matter what I do with voltages, and I done this as a seperate CPU only test i.e. 11x237 with default memory settings, I feel my CPU is just not good enough to go past 2600

sorry missed that in your sig.

My PWMIC is about 43 degrees when i startup on my chip at 280fsb, it gets to about 54 degrees max when i've been in game a few hours.

Maybe you need better case cooling to cool down them mosfets of yours. Although i can see that you have the same case as me and my case cooling is fine.

Your CPU should be able to fly looking at this -

3500+ CBBFD 0441 3252
3500+ CBBFD 0441 XPAW 2640 240 11 1.48

So you should be getting around those speeds - 2640-3252.

Any chance you can get hold of another CPU to try for a high fsb, to eliminate the CPU being at fault as it could be dodgy motherboard parts like your mosfets getting that hot is CRAZY :o

Is it OK to use the top or bottom PCI E slot for my graphics card as I want to water cool the northbridge and I can't make it fit if it has to go in the top slot.

Cheers

OH another thing, I got 4 hardrives in it 2x74raptors and 2x60gig, which because they situated in front of the front fan, maybe contributing to my extra heat.
I can get her running with 2600+mhz but it aint prime stable, it runs with games okay and no reboots, but I dont know that much about overclocking an just thought it really had to be primeable.
PS just left pc on for 1 hr talking to a neighbore an the pwm temp is 42c, the insane temp's are whilst doing P&M torture test with it set to 100% and set to real time in task manager.

Volts at present:
cpu 1,53, ldt bus 1.38, dram 2.7, nbridge 1.7
Seen this myself, think the 2nd one's on vapo and none are RPAW, whatever that stands for?
Off now to try 2.5-3-7-3 cheers

I'm on a roll of giving good answers today :D lol

Paul RPAW is the stepping of the CPU and sometimes makes a world of difference.

You really want to push for a higher fsb and keep the multi on 9, on air you can chuck volts at it upto about 1.65 which should be giving good temps, but i would maybe replace your fans for better ones that push more air (cfm's) to cool down them mosfets a bit :)

If you haven't already try tidying up your cables etc... as this can sometimes increase your air flow and drop temps by a few degrees.

Yes see what your saying, can you imagine what it's like with 4 drives though 2 being ide, they just dont want to go anywhere, no room and very restricted to where the drives are possitioned, really need to bin the ide's an go with 1 big backup sata 200g+ drive, oh and not forgrtting me pioneer 107 dvd writer, err an modem!
I am happy that i've done all I can to test out cpu speed,(spent 3 days testing with different voltages all with 11x multi and 2x, 3x, 4x, ltd thing, have been over 1.6v on cpu, it just will not prime over 2600, an the cpu temp is not an issue, dont think it would make any differance with water, (Temp max45c)so I just want to consentrate on the best settings for me memory.
Thanks for helping
PS Can you advise me on the best fans, noise is something I dont want though, was very happy with one's that came with tsunami case, I was looking and I can afford to put another (piggy backed), one on the exhaust, is that a good idea?

Why dont you try and remove the HDs that arent essential to your OS and trying to OCing with them out of the way - if your more successful, it may indicate that you have an issue with your air circualtion and might need better cfm fans or a different HD setup...

Also it may just be that you havent got the best OCing CPU, but after youve exhausted all those possbilities it can only really be either the CPU or Mobo...

ps3ud0

Yes I had same problem but I used a dremil to modify the white plastic support rather than bend the capicitor, there is now a 1mm clearance, I posted about this on dfi forum.
You could also use a hot knife to melt a bit out of it so as not to foul!
I do have a pic of it but dont know how to post it, its 65kb. Would be grateful if someone could tell me this
I wonder if the sound issues people are having is because of this

is that it?
is the support needed? I built my computer about 3 weeks ago without the white support and haven't seemed to have any problems....

Na managed to play farcry at 2.5-3-7-3, but it rebooted during an s and m memory test, so back to 2.5-4-7-3.
Any other memory timming suggestions? Am doing the 1mb PI test thing in just over 33 seconds.
Has anybody seen an overclock with the exact steppings as mine anywhere you could link me too?

It's only an opinion but seen as you'll be plugging and un plugging speaker wires etc, I think it's better supported than not, but I would leave it out all together if you dont mod the support as mine was that tight, I think it would have damaged the capicitor or broke the contacts!!!

Well I've seen similar post about the pwmi temp thing some peopl have added a fan just to blow on the moff's. I feel the cpu is the prob cause when it came it was'nt sealed in the box and there was a dent and scuff in the white box where you open it?
Need I say more?

Come to the conclusion that pc's just are not fast enough for me yet, wanna be able to defrag all me drives together at same time in diskeeper 9 whilst doing a full anti-vius scan, whilst also doing an adware scan a reg cleaner scan, also doing windows update, so all me maintanence is done together in shortest time, oh and of course listen to music whilst playing latest kick a..e shoot em up's. so as not to get bored,
How long will it be before multi core cpu's are on the market? Like really fast one's, an I mean really fast

Ricco,

Can you either start another thread on the DFI SLI-DR (or post on the first page of this one) and its brothers but this time simply show all the "Genie" parts of the bios to say, overclock TCCD ram to 290+ ?

I think it could be a great tweaking guide and help peopl etrawl through all those mem and voltage settings :)

Borrowed some friends AData DDR400 last weekend and it worked fine on my rev A.02 SLi-D. My GSkill LE has just arrived, popped on stick into the top orange slot and worked fine. Now, after reboot, it refuses to work. I've cleared the CMOS and it says:

Verifying DMI Pool Data...
Error loading Operating system

After I switch back to the normal pins as opposed to the ones used to clear CMOS, I turn on and nothing comes up on the monitor. I'm at a loss on what to do.
