****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Whats the big guys ive come across? First new enemy after the imps. (I'm on medium difficulty)

EDIT: I think its a hell knight

You kill 1 - its pretty tough, just as you are like phew glad that is over they throw 2 more at you... <insert expletives>.

Guys, hope you don't mind if i post a link to my self created level guide. Remaining parts in production. Its my first attempt at content creation so treat me gently!

I genuinely enjoyed that. :)

I think your voice sounds good; was the commentary scripted or off the top of your head? If it was spontaneous then I think that is impressive (way better than I could do).

I can see that sort of video getting quite a bit of attention. Subbed. :)

I'm surprised there hasn't been many user created maps posted up. Its quite good fun the snap map feature, although I have only had a very quick play with it.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Non scripted, although if I messed up I went back and tried again. Only using Windows movie maker but the annotation tool is handy. It's worth mentioning that at the end of the guide series I'll be giving away a copy of doom! Aren't I kind!

Think partly due to it not being the most intuitive to start setting up the game logic and somewhat limited variation of map pieces to work with.

Looked like there was some interesting potential for human player versus demon players + ai modes but I've not had time to get my head into it yet.

I honestly would never had guessed that your video was made with WMM. Of course, the game is widely regarded as a very good looker, but even so, that's a decent looking video. :)

Hey everyone, I am unfortunately one of those AMD users that have serious performance issues with this game. Can anyone please help give me advice, tips and share knowledge on how to get the best performance?

I currently have an R9 290 4GB and its an amazing card, I run most games maxed out in ultra settings like BF4 and GTA5 etc but this game has some serious issues with FPS drop from 60fps to 30fps in certain scenes and areas.

I read online on redit and elsewhere loads of AMD users having issues with older cards from r9 290 to r9 390x etc and it said turning shadows to low and leaving everything else on high helps and that did help but it's still keeps dropping FPS from 60FPS to 30FPS all the time. Before it would even go as low as 20FPS but now its better.

I also installed latest AMD drivers but it's still doing it!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try changing V-Sync to the adaptive one if you are using V-Sync.

What resolution are you playing at? seems to be some kind of issue with some older kepler cards and AMD 290 series where they take a massive performance hit at 1440p type resolutions (bigger than typical/normal compared to 1080vs1440 and not VRAM limited) but run 1080p with plenty of framerate to spare.

Thanks for your quick response! I'm only running it at 1080p on a standard 29 inch 1080p monitor. And yeah I usually play all my games with Vsync as this ensures I don't get screen tearing.

It's so frustrating because you run into a room shooting at 60fps and then you turn right and your FPS goes to 30fps and then you turn left and it goes back to 60fps and then you turn again and it goes back to fps!!!:confused:

I'll try adaptive vsync like you said though and see if it makes a difference. I'm currently downloading some more AMD drivers and trying different drivers as well.

Not sure what the setup is with triple buffering off the top of my head with AMD but as this is an Open GL game if you are using V-Sync then it might be worth trying enabling that.

Just finished game @1440p ultra with single 290 frame rates most the time 70s odd drops into high 50s only for couple secs not something I noticed without fps counter on screen.

Ran excellent here, can't complain.

Edit
I never once seen frame rate into 40s never mind 30s something is clearly wrong with your setup. You at 1080p also.

Like the weird intro video lag thing it doesn't seem to affect everyone.

I'm not sure mate, I've just kind of accepted the fact that i'm probably going to have to just play the game most of the time at 30fps because I've tried changing settings, different drivers etc, nothing seems to make a difference.

I've been playing quite a lot and it does look nice and is playable but just not ideal having your fps cut in half all the time, especially in an FPS genre game where you need to be fast with your reflexes and aim.

EDIT: my full spec is intel i5 3.5ghz devils canyon, r9 290 4GB and 8GB DDR3 2400mhz and SSD etc.

I don't know if it'll help much but have you tried turning off player self shadow?

Reduced the resolution scale?

Don't think I've tried that yet, I'll try those two methods you mentioned now.

I did set shadow to low and I also turned vsync off and tried adaptive. With either off or adaptive it still has bad screen tearing and doesn't seem to make any difference with regards to the extreme fps drops.

I've seen loads of micro patches been installed today on steam so hopefully AMD and the makers of this game can patch it or fix it within next few days/weeks.

Might be worth taking a look. :)
