****Official Doom 4 Thread****

It isn't so much their combat capabilities but their "presence" onscreen seems underwhelming. The 3rd one in the first encounter with them is definitely the hardest to deal with.

RE: Summoners - micro-missile burst quickly deals with them (and most things).

the Hell knights etc dont scare you at all now because this latest DOOM has no atmosphere at all, i.e if you put the Hell Knight into the Evil Within :eek: then yes you'd be really scared :D

in this latest Doom all you do is run off or kill him easily with the rocket launcher etc

I don't have that mod. In fact I have tried to not use weapon mods as much as possible except for the 3 rocket lock on thing and the only reason I upgraded to that was to tackle summoners (was stuck on the section in Hell that I previously mentioned).

I just felt like trying to play the game like the originals :p

I still feel a little disappointed that I haven't come across some of the old demons. Pain Elemental, Arachnotron (+ Spider Mastermind), Heavy Weapons Dude and Spectre.

Explosive rounds for the shotgun is one of my favourite mods, makes it into a brilliant little weapon.

I'm not a fan of the final version of that mod though that makes it like a concentrated grenade launcher - liked the earlier unlocked version with the explosive hits for each pellet.

I don't have that mod.

I've mixed feelings about the micro-missile mod - while you have ammo and with it upgraded to full mastery you can just spam it into a room in the general direction of monsters and take out most stuff even the heavier demons leaving a bit to mop up - it does burn ammo though.

I don't know if it's a reference to Terminator 2, but after just falling into lava (or whatever it is) in the foundry level, my character gave the thumbs up as he was going under. :D

There are a lot of random and/or situational death animations and stuff like that heh - makes it kind of interesting - still seeing glory kill animations I've not seen before in certain situations.

I Find the rune to allow glory kills from further away quite useful.

Also I think my favourite pick up is Beserk. I do think the power up icons are a bit boring though. I would have preferred something more akin to how they were in Q3.

I thought glory killing would get old very quickly. Strangely I continue to love it, particularly when interspersed with some chainsaw love!! :D

same here, some of them are quite cool, they seem to alter depending on your angle of attack.

i just used the chainsaw on the Baron of Hell, i was able to cut his leg off first and then his head and i'm pretty sure he was on full health, but it's hard to tell. :D DOOM has deffo got the best combat of any game

but that final boss fight is so boring, it should have been against another massive Titan thing, because it looks from its skeleton that it's about 400ft tall :D because you must have killed it (or someone else) from a previous ``Hell war`` centuries ago

before that final big boss encounter you see 4 different DOOM Slayers, i expect they're you going back over the centuries, i find this very interesting.

Think those were doom 2 demons? I have a sneaky suspicion they're going to reboot the hell on earth concept as the next game so wonder whether they've saved a few for that :)

Loving this game but like another 290 owner a few pages back, I am having performance issues. Still very much playable but the frame rates are all over the place, at 1080p and 1440p.

yes because they've already got all the level designs completed from the scrapped game; so DOOM 2 is 90% finished already........ if they decide to reboot it then DOOM 2 will probably be out next year.

they just need to mod it so it's not like COD anymore, which means it's just DOOM GUY on his own, not exactly hard is it.

I don't know if it's related or not to the latest Nvidia driver, but all of a sudden the next part of a level won't load.

It's the part right after Olivia jumps into the portal, then a wave of enemies immediately spawn. After a while the screen fades to black, which it should, but the next part doesn't load. Instead everything just locks up.
A vast majority of the time, the game runs so very, very well, but just on the odd occasion things take a turn for the worse. It really does seem to need a patch.

I think you are being disingenuous as to how import level design is in relation to the game in general.

For instance, the DOOM game that was scrapped on Earth wouldn't be built around the fast paced double jumping of the released version of DOOM.

not necessarily, it might not have been vast and open where he couldn't double jump, because we have no idea what the level design was like do we.

the game was scrapped because it was too much like COD, which tells me that DOOM SLAYER was part of a squad based team rather than on his own.

in DOOM 2016, a squad expedition has already visited Hell before him, which tells me they can double jump too, because they have to visit the same inaccessible areas that you do and put markers down.

maybe in DOOM 2 you'll double jump to get over a charging enemy and land behind him, rather than land on another level above ;)

whatever the case, i bet they'll mod the scrapped game, because that's too easy to resist !!!!!!!!!!!!!

After playing some more of the classic maps I'm convinced the gameplay is better than in the game proper. Tight corridors, stuff popping out of the wall. I really enjoyed the main game, but the whole arena, running in circles got a little tired. The more classic, in your face combat of the classic maps is just better.

The cacodemons (flying plasma shooting ones) are what I hate the most. There's always one where you don't need it and they absolutely rape your health.

i hate them too, they're just plain annoying, my fav is the Revenant or the Baron of Hell, worst boss is that crab thing at the end, that should have been a 400ft tall Titan.

the ending seems wrong to me anyway, i think the Demon boss would have attempted to lock you up again in chains and then banish you to another area of Hell where you cant escape...........after all, you're UNSTOPPABLE, so he needs to think of another tactic.

``dont let him escape, it'll be a disaster, he'll ruin our plans``.

it's very interesting, but when you die in Doom i dont think that you're really dieing, you're reanimating again like Jason Vooheers...the reason i say this is that the Doom Slayer has been around for centuries, but the Doom fans aren't sure about this either, i was reading their posts last night :D

you dont have to run around in circles ;) but if you dont you die all the time.........even on Easy Mode

the Doom fans wanted arena fighting........so like it or loath it that's what we got, unfortunately what we also got were no sub plots and no atmosphere

Did Doom fans want arena fighting? I don't want to moan too much as the game was a breath of fresh air .. it was just too damn open. Taking out the demons in a massive arena wasn't all that interesting. Being trapped in a small place with them - then it got real!
