****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Thanks!. I was expecting them to fire green stuff at me lol. And have a Trex style roar. Not jump at me and melee me to death. lol.

Barons of Hell are in the game as well. If you wanted them to resemble the classics more, you won't be disappointed. Just keep soldiering on through the game.

Ok guys for those of you interested, I have just uploaded episode 3. It is currently processing but will be here in all its 1080p glory shortly.

Thanks.

i'm playing DOOM quite a lot now, i'm beginning to really enjoy it.

so what happens if they decide to make DOOM 2 because they had no idea what to do last time, because as you know the original game was scrapped  ????

The game is utterly insane in respect that one minute your swearing taking down one hell knight the next its throwing 6 of them at you, plus a couple of summoners and the odd revenant as well as a horde of smaller stuff (and that isn't even some of the bigger stuff).

The amount of chaos on screen as the whole lot charges into your cloud of mico-rockets is crazy.

Bit underwhelmed by the Barons of Hell despite being quite in your face somehow they felt a bit muted.

The first one I fought was pretty easy to finish off as I had plenty of room and big open spaces.

The second one was also easy as I picked it off from afar from my cowardly hiding spot :D

The third one was scary as hell because I was low on health and ammo after just cutting through tons of other demons, including a summoner. To add to the panic it was quite a confined space with electrified liquid below me and a dead end at the other side of the area with nowhere to run to. I was also playing on a PS4 so I had the pad to contend with as well, or more accurately I had my crapness on a pad to contend with :p

I basically had to play peekaboo with the damn thing and try not to die! Nailed it first time and the relief was very real! :p

I had to take a moment to gather my thoughts after that encounter

they're very easy to kill as are the Hell knights, they're only a problem at very close range.

if you're low on health just run around the outside and kill a few Imps until you're recharged.................. or run off and fire the BFG

I don't have a BFG yet and I am 3/4 through the game. Is the BFG a secret I have missed somewhere or does it become available towards the end?

you cant miss the BFG it's a main game mission objective, you just haven't got there yet.

the BFG is best used when you get fed up in the Arena fight, you just think, ``i'm getting bored of this, it's time to clear them all out with the BFG`` :D
unfortunately this happens quite often, but i dont use it much in the boss fights, i use the Gauss, Rocket launcher and shot gun

if you get boxed into a corner and you cant escape usually you die, because you cant switch to the BFG quick enough :D

the small demon with the laser beam arm kills many of the others by mistake, SO DONT EVER KILL HIM, because he's your friend.

the Revenant kills other demons too, he'll loose his temper and start fights with the others, he's got a lot of health and he'll attack anyone that wounds him by mistake, i've seen him fighting Hell Knights ;)

i've just thought of something, the BFG might be great to kill the Summoner quickly, because she's a pain in the backside, she's the one that summons most of the demons (if you dont kill her quickly)

I hate summoners. There's a part in Hell where I think I had 2-3 of the damn things spawn one after the other. Every time one died, another spawned in. Soooo annoying! I just use the rocket launcher with the 3 round lock on upgrade or the chainsaw if I am close. I try and save my Gause for bigger stuff. They are way harder to tackle than the Arch Vile was in Doom II (I am assuming the summoner is the spiritual successor to the Arch Vile?)

There was a section on Mars after you get back where I legged it. I knew from a previous attempt that all kinds of pain spawns in - Revenant's and Hell Knights as well as a bucket full of Imps. I was expecting to be chased. Turns out they wiped each other out and all that was left was a lonely Imp pinging fireballs at me from the top of the ridge. :D

Run away, live to fight another few minutes! :D

It isn't so much their combat capabilities but their "presence" onscreen seems underwhelming. The 3rd one in the first encounter with them is definitely the hardest to deal with.

RE: Summoners - micro-missile burst quickly deals with them (and most things).

that happens often

they dont know what to do when you run away or when you jump over them, it totally confuses them, they look at each other and attack each other instead, they get frustrated.

the demons expect you to attack head on and in a straight line, if you dodge and run they're useless, esp the Hell knights.

i expect most gamers just slog it out with them so they've never noticed this, but i only stand there and fight against the much smaller demons.

if you're an old school Arcade shooter you wont get any better than this, but unfortunately, it's the story and atmosphere plus the same levels that spoil DOOM and not the combat which is great.

i've only ever played one arcade shooter where there's a truly massive variation in level designs and it's a brilliant game for this............Painkiller Overdose.

but Painkiller is the biggest PC gaming disaster of all time, because that had the potential to be the best shooter of all.............damn it :mad:

lets hope Serious Sam 4 is good, because there's sod all else on the horizon that's similar !!!
