****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Loving this game but like another 290 owner a few pages back, I am having performance issues. Still very much playable but the frame rates are all over the place, at 1080p and 1440p.

I'm on a 290 and only really had drops below 60 (@1080) in the final stages of the game where it really gets hectic. Had a lot of the settings cranked up and it seemed to handle it well for me!

Start of the Argent Tower map where you go out over the pipeline I dropped a bit at 1080p ultra (GTX780 GHz) - mid 50s until I'd killed the first Revenant for some reason then it was back at 60+ - not really seeing the slowdowns in Hell, etc. some say about - though 60fps there feels a bit laggier than 60fps in the base sections for some reason - I had one place in Hell drop to mid 40s where you turn a corner and look out over a large part of the map with ~30 monsters spawning in but its back to 60fps a few steps further.

Did Doom fans want arena fighting? I don't want to moan too much as the game was a breath of fresh air .. it was just too damn open. Taking out the demons in a massive arena wasn't all that interesting. Being trapped in a small place with them - then it got real!

I tend to agree. As much as I love the game, something more akin to levels done the old fashioned way with less arena fighting would have been very interesting, too. :)

Can kind of make that with snapmap - lots of generic close quarters corridor and junction pieces.

There was one part, an indoor section where you drop in from a ventilation duct next to what looks like a demon being operated on. A lot of stuff spawned at once and I had drops down to about 20 fps which was bad!

YES many of them did, they wanted an ``old school arena shooter`` as it once was.......but i didn't as i agree with you.

this was mentioned by many fans after DOOM 4 was cancelled, basically the developers weren't sure which way to go, so the fans said ``old school arena shooter please``.

Getting more into this now. The one thing I really enjoy is the movement. It's effortless and really quick. Loving the assault rifle.

Still annoying that you have no clue if you are taking damage or not.

I can't say I've thought of the response when damage taken to be insufficient, though I do prefer the way it was done in the older id titles. Quake's "Arrrgh!" was pretty cool. :D

Whelp figured out all the stuff in snapmap - waiting for a parcel to be delivered and started dabbling with it to kill time and ended up figuring out how all the logic stuff connects and is triggered, etc. :S

the BFG is great when you're getting bored in the arena fights ;)

ha fair play...

I kinda got stuck at this point as you get to the cage where the gun is. The lasers trigger so I jumped onto the cage. Then you can jump onto one of those green lit shelves, but I didn't see a way past this.

However I gather from a mate that if you wait a minute or 2 the lasers go "mad" and you can jump down

Nope, shoot the red box things on the laser grid. It stumped me for a few mins as well :D

Weird. The originals were never arena shooters. I suspect some people just associate 'arena' with old school. Either way, I'd like a bit of both. Tight corridors punctuated by some all out arena mayhem. Doom 4 has a little too much of the latter
