****Official Doom 4 Thread****

If there was ever a game that I wanted single player DLC for, this is it. What a cracking game, and somehow I feel it's under rated despite its somewhat critical acclaim.

Really fecks me off all this paid dlc, especially for just mp, god, back in the day you buy a full price game, then it gets supported for years after with free maps, addons etc, and then all the great free stuff made from the community, seriously, some sort of watchdog should look into all this ripoff dlc we get charged for, even worse that some of the paid dlc is already in the game when you buy it, just ready to be unlocked as dlc, once you pay for it a course, and the fact that most games that come out these days, are like 20% content of what we got back then for a full game.

anyone any advice on the cyberdemon fight ? can some1 post spoilers ? Ive seen youtube videos, but do I need to press a key to finish him off, hes on low health and seems to keep regenerating, which is frustrating

Is that the guy you defeat then teleport to Hell for the second time just for him to resurrect so you need to kill him again?

I'm currently having a lot of fun with the campaign, I reached the battle I just mentioned and couldn't defeat him so I gave up and tried again the next day but still couldn't so I decided to start a new game and use a 100% walkthrough to get all the Argent cells and upgrades possible before meeting him again, I'm just about to start chapter 6 and hoping this time to beat him silly, Frackin Demon.

Finally bought this! 54 minutes to go on download via Steam.

I loved doom 3 back in the day, and completed it multiple times on each difficulty (and freaked myself out in the process Lol) so looking forward to getting stuck into this

I can run this game at 4k, every setting up full but only with vulkan API enabled and it seems to only use one card via vulkan.

Whereas via opengl it utilises SLI but I cant max out at 4k.

What is vulkan? lol

Got to admit I've hit a wall with this and thrown the towel in for now including a rage uninstall. I just couldn't believe having finally defeated the CD first time you are immediately teleported to fight it again. One of the few times I've actually sworn out loud at a game and banged the table - a ridiculous, cheap trick to extend gameplay. Despite reading a couple of hints elsewhere and using the BFG combined with 3 x homing rockets at a time from the upgraded launcher, its health hardly depletes at all. Nowhere to run or take cover/dodge as you're in a narrow corridor even worse than the first encounter. This "boss" fight actually makes the much criticised original unpatched boss fights in Deus Ex HR seem easy and do-able!

Already put 10 hours into this since yesterday evening and Im enjoying it so far. Little bit samey but the difficulty progressing seems steady throughout.

Running max settings on 4k all day and its been perfect but I think it is just on the edge of 60FPS when it gets a bit heavy with fog + fighting.

Its not jumpy at all tbh, I think the reason Doom 3 was so jumpy for me was because of the switching between primary weapon and flashlight all the time, as well as the music and environment triggers.

This one doesn't have that, it is run and gun with gross looking monsters lol!

Still fun at the moment though.

This boss fight isn't too bad actually. It's easy to panic though. The trickiest part of it is, well, I better put that in spoilers!!

The Trickiest part is going in for the melee kill at the end. You have to aim at where you want to hit him, unlike other monsters, when they stagger you can melee hit them anywhere.

The Cyberdemon shoots out rockets and waves of fire. The way I killed him is by moving constantly. Keep circling him in the open area, firing everything you have, I mainly used rockets and gauss cannon here. When he bangs the ground and puts you in that narrow corridor, I shoot him with the BFG then switch to mini gun and run towards him firing like crazy picking up as much health and ammo as I can and moving away as quickly as possible before he recovers. Just repeat it 3 times and he should be ready for melee shot then.

Some hints.

The BFG staggers him, doesn't do much damage. The point is to make him weaker to other weapons.

When you shoot him with the BFG, make sure you fire at him with some other gun as he drops health and ammo for every time you him. He only drops ammo while staggered.

When he shoots fire at you, the first one is always low, so just jump that, I didn't try to avoid the high one.

His rockets won't hit you as long as you keep circling around him.

In the corridor, if you run out of BFG ammo, move immediately to the left hand side, wait until he starts firing rockets at you then strafe to the right, none of the rockets will hit you.

If in doubt, move!! don't stand still for a second.

Good luck!!

Ahhh right ! cool got it workin in open GL now - just cant get V sync working now :D, but yeah equally as fast 60fps + however it doesnt dip now to lower fps in crazy busy fights :)

How is vsync not working?

I have mine setup via Nvidia Control Panel as adaptive vsync and turned vsync off in game and it is working fine.

Sounds weird, explain lol

Finally finished the single player campaign.

Despite my initial reservations, the game is one of the best that I have played in a long time. I have even gone back and played a few of the missions again.
