Rune Trials

Hi all,

So... I was playing through levels via mission select to find secrets that I missed.

When I got to the Kadingir Sanctum something weird happened: apparently I missed a rune trial, only this time playing through it ended with me being kicked out of the mission! This was very frustrating as I had to start all over when I was mid-way through the level.

What's worse, I got to that point and went even further, only to have it happen again! There was another rune trial and as soon as I activated it a screen came up where I found... there is no option to reject playing through it!

I remember that normally I should be able to skip the trial if I want to. I also remember that even if I'd exit the trial, I could still continue the game from that point in the mission.

Somehow the game now does not provide this option. It just tells me that if I enter the trial I will end the mission, but there is only an Accept option! No cancel, no backing out with escape...

Has anyone else seen this?

Went back to this game after windows anniversary update or doom update, not played in a few weeks, was running nice before, now i get crashing as soon as i continue my save or even start a new campaign, done verify game in steam and some other stuff, but no joy, anyone else having crashes, i know the Doom's steam discussion board is full of people having this crash problem, but no fix yet.

My only disappointment with this game was that Vulkan was a no go on my 970. Was not smooth at all.

Vulkan in the game doesn't seem to work that well on a lot of nVidia cards - on several I used including my 780 there seemed to be some internal V-Sync like effect that I couldn't disable even with all V-Sync stuff off which made for noticeable step changes in framerate.

Is there any advantage to using vulkan other than higher fps? Open GL looks fantastic and gives great FPS for nvidia, i dunno what switching to vulkan could improve.

I havent looked into it so i dunno what vulkan does better, all i know is that when i was trying to choose between D3D, OpenGL and 3DFX in games i ended up choosing 3DFX cause i thought it looked the best, but since it vanished from the earth shortly after i guess i was probably wrong, so my opinion probably doesnt carry much weight :).

For you, no.

Only AMD cards are really seeing any benefit in this title. Just stick with OpenGL.

There are also no visual differences between the two.

played on a 970 at 1080 maxxed out 120 fps all way through. so someone has issues lol.

The game seems to randomly have issues with some cards - on both a 780 and 970 I could run the game maxed out at 1080p with framerate to spare - at 1440p though the 780 was just falling apart - not VRAM limited, not the normal drop from 1080 to 1440 - performance was simply collapsing by about 70% no matter if the quality settings were at low or ultra while the 970 was averaging like 70fps or something.

Just downloaded latest drivers 372.90 whql, do these support Vulkan or do i need a special driver for that ? thx
You're using Nvidia, so dont worry about Vulkan. Will do nothing for you in this game.

But no, there is no 'special' driver to use it.

It's not impossible Nvidia release new drivers with improved Vulkan performance sometime later, but it's quite unlikely at this point and wouldn't be a 'requirement' or anything.
