****Official Doom 4 Thread****

I REALLY REALLY want this game and cant wait for it :) is the beta just multiplayer? or can you also play any of the story mode?

Weyland Yutani was nice enough to provide a key for this, loaded fine with no issues I was in a game within a ferw minutes of it installijng and it rarely droped below 60 FPS but thats because it looks and feels like a game from the late 90's. I guess that what its aiming for and of course its a BETA but the graphics are terrible and it kept my attention for all of 20 minutes, thats coming from an online shooter addict

I'll give it another go later but I have to thank Weyland Yutani for saving me from wasting my money here because unless the SP gets raved about I wont be buying this

What the hell?

At first I was hyped but the more I see about the multiplayer the worse it gets. Stupid CoD-style loadouts? Permanent mouse acceleration? 60fps lock?

Sounds like it's going to be a joke.

Mouse settings would hopefully be tweakable in the final game they've limited the configuration options exposed to the user which sucks - you always kind of needed to tweak the acceleration, filter, etc. settings with id games to get a good feel.

The dead feeling core mechanics to the movement (ironically it feels like all the worst of Unreal Tournament 2003's movement feel but with even more restrictive damping) and 60fps lock though I don't think is gonna go away though :( If you loved the earlier UT2K3 style of game and movement though you'll probably love this to be fair.

It feels very Quake 3.

If that was true it would be one of the best compliments you can give a MP FPS game. Watched some streams it looks dog ****. The player movement looks horrific and the fov is laughable.

In 1999 perhaps, if you were a fan of Quake 3. Otherwise, speaking personally, I'd expect a bit more than a bit of a rehash after 17 or so years.

Really? A fast paced FPS based on pure skill with a high skill ceiling and complete freedom of movement. Nothing comes close as it's too hard for the new generation of gamers/console owners.

Mind you it is quite fascinating to watch the new generation of top skill Quake 3 (live) players - while some of them have average at best reaction times, movement and aim, etc. the meta in terms of managing your "stack", map control and/or predicting the other player's game is an order of magnitude more complex and very tough to go up against using more traditional FPS skills and quite interesting to see which of the old names have either managed to evolve with the meta or just so incredibly skilled they can push through on pure reflex play.

This Doom is not even in the same league as Quake 3 though - nothing like as pure, fluid and intuitive as an experience.
