****Official Doom 4 Thread****

To save wading through the previous 20 odd pages, can anyone confirm whether this will have a decent SP campaign or is it designed entirely around multiplayer/deathmatch? I'm an old luddite who has precious little interest in multiplayer, so unless I can get a good single player game out of it I'll give it a miss.

It's substantially a SP game. The MP is a bit tacked on.

Pretty much what it should be with Doom, to be honest.

I wouldnt even think about buying this day 1, wait for the user reviews. Although saying that some poor saps have to buy it in order for us to read the user reviews :D. Got a feeling the sp will be as bad as the mp, but hopefully I am wrong.

I think I've been playing consoles too long... 60fps seems way too fast, erratic even. I remember I used to play Q3A/Q3F/RA3 90 - 120fps locked with 100 - 120FOV and never bat an eye.

Most of the gameplay in this you cannot see what is happening with all the blood or buckets of paint and gibs exploding everywhere...

dont get me wrong i like it hectic............i.e Serious Sam 3 at the last two levels

but with that you're not doing anything other than shooting other gamers all around you all the time.......... it's boring.

now in Fear Combat, the other gamers ( maybe only 6 of you) could be anywhere inside an office building or a hospital stalking you, you were hunting each other, it was tense and scary............they weren't spawned near you, but miles away, all you got was a message ``aaaz77 has joined your game``and you might not see him for another 10 minutes, because the maps were so huge that it took that long for him to hunt you down.

now this was great fun !!! it was even more fun if you locked the game for private only and only allowed 2 others to join !

because then you're stalking in the true sense of the word...........where is he, i've no idea WHERE, i'm getting nervous he must be close by, i was so scared almost too scared to fire my gun WE'VE LOST ALL THAT.

Meh. It's been consolified.

Loudouts, rewards, accolades etc.........

I bet it probably uses a crap p2p netcode model as well.

Kill animations in an arena shooter? Really?

I agree with the video above - the MP in this seems to have lost its identity in terms of gameplay, but the maps do definitely feel like they have Quake 3/4 written all over them from what I have seen which makes me a little bit more interested than I would have been. Watching the gameplay definitely reminds me of playing Quake 4 MP, although with nerfed movement and less tactics.

I hope the campaign stands up to the originals, but I think it is likely targeted at the lowest common denominater and those of us who are old enough to have played the original doom games and other id titles back in the day will be dissapointed.

But I will be very happy to stand corrected. I just doubt I will be :(

I think the MP is almost complete crap if i'm honest.

Enough so that i'll almost certainly wait to pick this up. What a fall from the likes of Doom 3, which I still play through at least once a year.

I think D3 is one of the most underrated id games ever made personally. I have always loved it and it captured the atmosphere brilliantly.

I also try and play it through once a year but I don't get the same amount of gaming time these days sadly, so it has been a while since I last played it :(

I never did get the Doom 3 expansion.

Got as far as the boss with the BFG and died several times then didn't go back to it.

Just had a look and it was fairly close to end and my save game is from 2005

Was thinking about Doom 3 today and I can clearly remember 2 things.

1, it was very atmospheric, I can remember being in 1 level where the only way to proceed was through some blooded vent that went under the floor, I distinctly remember thinking "**** that!" :p

2, the weapon sounds were terrible, I especially remember the machine gun, completely pathetic. Pretty sure I downloaded a sound mod in the end, as well as the flash light mod. ;)

No love here for the third game. Once I started playing it I came to realise that this game I'd been eagerly waiting for, had pre-ordered, was just a wander-about-in-a gasworks-during-a-powercut simulator with penny packet enemies inserted here and there.

Doom gameplay was never about creeping around in the dark, it was all brute force and constant movement.

It's Arnie ram-raiding the cop shop in Terminator, rather than Tom Cruise retrieving the NOC list.
