Isn't that what they're doing now though with Doom 4?

Not really, upping the movement speed and removing reloads obviously harken back to the original doom but in that game they made sense especially in later levels when you were being deluged with enemies. And from some of the vids of this game they also make sense in that aspect, as the enemy count is far higher than it was in Doom 3.

Id games are always worth a play. Even with some of the issues their recent engines have had, and some of the odd design choices it's always a blast to play. There is a certain old school simplicity and charm to their games, a bit like Valve.

** please fully star swearing * Totally forgot the texture pop carp in their engine when I ordered Doom earlier today :( I hope they've managed to get rid of it, as it was a shame to see it in Wolfenstein.
