****Official Doom 4 Thread****

The new Driver 365.19 removed my FPS cap of 60, which is nice as I can now see what settings work best. I found putting everything at Ultra, with SMAA, AF x16, and no Motion Blur works amazingly well at 1440p. Keeps me above 60fps hovering around 90fps when not recording with a single 980 Ti at stock.

The game is a lot of fun, and fast paced. Sadly it seems to rely a tad too much on the finishing moves.

If you don't like the finishing moves just disable them in the game options.

For anyone having problems like me with a 390/X and low frame rate you need to set shadows to low in order to get a locked 60FPS at 1920x1200. I have an I7 [email protected] so my CPU is not the culprit and of course I'm using the latest crimson 16.5.2.

If I set shadows to ultra I get 30FPS, with nightmare as low as 20FPS. I'm not sure why shadows are having such a drastic effect on performance and the various quality settings seem to have very little effect on image quality. AMDMatt, are shadows bugged on these cards?

Also, player shadow setting seems not to be working either.

No issue here on 290 I have High preset selected though at 1440p am getting most the time over 60fps, I say its around 60-80fps with odd drops into 50s

at 1080p is always in the 70s never drops below. Ultra on the other hand is very demanding at 1440p

Vulkan Patch couldn't come soon enough :D

It's strange that you're not having these problems as well, I've seen lots of 390/X users with these problems on reddit. Maybe it's a driver bug that just affects the 390 series cards.

I'm on a 390x, 1080p and everything ultra. Have only seen fps drop below 60fps briefly so far - right at the start and a bit about an hour later. The rest of the time 70-80fps. I'm only 3hrs in mind - so that may change!

It feels like a PC game but there is one thing missing. Quick save.

That's a good thing!

I'm surprised how well mines running. Usually I feel that people must be exaggerating their fps on most games as i dont tend to get as much on most games. I'm 2560x1440 everything on ultra/high, every extra on, with 8AA 16AF & seem to be at 45-70 & very smooth with a gtx970. Only played 30 min blast at 1am, had work today. Will play more over weekend.

Think I'm getting old & not enjoying games as much these days or expect more but I feel it's a bit "meh" atm. Feel like it might be quite repetitive. I actually love serious sam as well. Early days, fingers crossed I get into it later

edit - this is without trying the New Doom driver. Will down load those when home

This is right at the beginning, particularly in the opening room, if I have shadows set to Ultra or higher I have 30FPS or less, tried with VSync on and off.

I get the same as you on a 290, going to try the low shadows when I get in later see if fixes the issue. Spent ages last night flicking between settings/changing drivers/overclocking/underclocking/power settings etc.

It's annoying because it'll be flying along no problem then there'll be one point in a room that'll make it drop the framerate through the floor and it could be anything from a candle, to a flickering light, to some smoke on a random wall vent.:(
