****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Game is so good. Not even a full 2hrs in but the bosses on the 2nd hardest difficulty are relentless. You basically cannot stand around in cover. It is not a go hide to regain your composure kind of game lol, you will get got :D

Love the fast pace of it too, it's giving the G900 a good workout.

Before buying, I think I'll wait for the more level headed and impartial reviews to hit in a week or so, rather than take the word of what are probably going to be immediate but ultimately, fanboy reviews.

I just can't shake the feeling that even though I love Doom, the videos of it make it look insanely repetitive and boring. I hope not...

You'd think it's a red flag, but it's not necessarily.

Similar thing with Shadow of Mordor: review copies were sent out pre-release, but the review embargo ended something like 12 hours after the game went on sale. The signs were, therefore, not good but it turned out to be very well received.

Early noises are that Doom is very good, too.

Makes you wonder why they make these stupid decisions.

It does make you wonder. I think Shadow of Mordor is vastly overrated by its fans, tried so many times to get into it. I might get this game though.

I agree 100% but I hope it's a classic, or at least a much better effort than 3.

Well I'm no fanboy and slated the game and felt the same after watching the videos of it and playing the beta multiplayer.

but the single player is something else.

If you like your single player games to guide you through every step and not really give you a challenge on hard modes, then this isn't the game for you. Maybe CoD style games are :p

If you like a shooter with classic FPS roots and a difficulty that means standing around looking at things and "collecting" = Near death, then this is for you. This game requires quick reactions, the better your twitch mouse reactions are the better you'll be.and the more you'll enjoy it.

Over 90% positive reviews on STEAM.

The new Driver 365.19 removed my FPS cap of 60, which is nice as I can now see what settings work best. I found putting everything at Ultra, with SMAA, AF x16, and no Motion Blur works amazingly well at 1440p. Keeps me above 60fps hovering around 90fps when not recording with a single 980 Ti at stock.

The game is a lot of fun, and fast paced. Sadly it seems to rely a tad too much on the finishing moves.

I loved Doom back in the day when it first released on Shareware and I loved Doom 2 (Doom got me into PC Gaming). I started to get bored of it by the mid-late 90's when all the WAD files and addon's had Doomed me out, so to speak. I actually quite liked Doom 3 even though it was a little more sedate by comparison.

I think the main reason though for my boredom of Doom type games was Half Life. It completely revolutionised the FPS genre and turned them from simple run and gun, to properly immersive experiences. So going back to the original and repetitive formula almost seems a step backward in my eyes. That being said, many gamers will never have experienced the frenetic nature of the original shareware Doom & Doom 2 and if this goes some way to reproducing that, then fair play.

I will buy it regardless, simply because it's part of my gaming life but, I'm going to wait until I see a broader cross-section of reviews to see if the general consensus is that it's good :)
