****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Still getting random crashes to desktop with no error message very rarely. Putting some more time into SP now and loving it. The arenas full of demons, great music, blood everywhere...awesome fun!

Removing boot_sequence.bik removed the videos (albeit with a lengthy wait), but the game ran terribly. Trying '-novid' in launch options did nothing. Alt+F4 seems ok, though again a lengthy pause before you get to the main menu.

That's strange. It's probably not the same issue then. If you can get into game, enable performance metrics (max level) and check that it's listing your 980 as being used. It might also shed some light into why it's running poorly (CPU/GPU usage etc.

In other news, nightmare mode is completely mental. I restarted my campaign on nightmare (as I was still early enough in on my hurt me plenty campaign to restart) and it's unforgiving. One shotted by imps? Killed by random nearby possessed scientists while coming out of glory kill animations? 3 shotgun blasts to stun a possessed soldier? Yep. It's that brutal.

Yep, you don't need to know anything about Doom to enjoy it. It really is the best single player FPS since Shadow Warrior and Wolfenstein imo.
 
Heh, we must be alike, I played shadow warrior days before getting Doom. two excellent FPS and a real hark back to better days!

For people buying, I somehow got the PC UAC pack version from Game - it cam to 32 clams in the end as theu added a discount at checkout - and no i have no idea why! but didnt argue! maybe try it. Id say for a couple of quid extra its nice tio have something in your hand - just remember though, you still need to download the game is it only comes on one DVD to get you the first 7GB installed. (not happy with that as it took me 24 hours to download where i live)

So much fun with game now though
 
Is anyone getting weird brown type textures on some guns and some large enemies and structures? I have got everything on ultra (and tried all other settings lower down the scale) and nothing makes a difference.

Here is a screen shot so you can see what i mean - notice gun all ok but skulls and wall are not...

If you like super fast, super twitchy 'if you stop moving you die' gunplay and think that blasting monsters in the face with shotguns is hilarious then yes. It's worth a buy. :)

Yep I concur!

On the subject of shotguns. Has anyone made a mod yet for a better, more Doom like shotgun sound effect?
