****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Are there any levels that are similar to the original Doom design? i.e narrow corridors, room with nowhere to run, traps and opening walls etc.
I am enjoying it but everything seems far to open and easy so far, even in Ultra Violence mode

Find the secret areas they play pretty much like the original :P there is a fair variation in the map design with some twisting corridors in parts.

Playing on ultra-violence I find that its mostly easy with sudden spikes to pretty hard now and again though pretty easy to blast through the second attempt once you've taken note of the items around and know what enemy are coming.

Latest drivers installed and I get crash exits to Windows. Any ideas? Rebooted, verified game cache, removed all the steam overlay nonsense and it still happens.

I am thinking of running it windowed and/or rolling back to the pious drivers... Any other ideas?

This has only just started happening as of today.

Cheers
Ben

Thanks.

I strongly urge everyone to download (for free) Brutal doom starter pack and play freedoom phase 2. Its a 32 level pack which im currently playing on ultra violence and so far on map 12. Its so fast paced and just (im afraid to say) much better gameplay than Doom 4.

I will return to Doom 4 when I have done a few more levels of freedoom phase 2

I started playing this tonight. Wow that's a lot of fun isn't it. My 3930k with AMD 290 runs it very nicely at 2560x1600 with pretty much everything turned up.

A few initial thoughts:

It's nice to have a shotgun again :)
It's nice to have a mindless old skool FPS again :) :)
Wait, what? The chaingun uses ammo? :(

Just finished this on Hurt me Plenty mode last night, and I have to say it's been a frantic good time! The weapon combos with their various mods work really well. The various enemies are fun and each bring their own troubles which forces you to switch in-between certain weaponry. I mostly used the plasma stun when I was in a tough spot, and switched to chain gun.

Chainsaw & BFGs kept reserved for when I was facing death most the time. The first boss gave me some trouble, but the second and third I dealt with first time.

Stunning visuals and the finishing moves never got any less satisfying to me as there's a good variety of them for each demon depending on the situation, and it plays well into the mechanics of the game by boosting health.

Overall, great game & the first FPS I've even been into enough to finish until the end.

Just finished it on ultra violence and what a blast this was! Just oodles of fun. You know the gameplay is good when you don't get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. They absolutely nailed this in my opinion and it will provide a great platform for future releases.

The game itself ran nearly perfectly for me, although I did get a few CTDs later in the game. It only happened when I tried to load from a checkpoint after dying and usually after a particularly busy fight. Happened quite frequently for certain checkpoints, but I did find that if you waited a few seconds after the death animation before loading, the CTDs did not happen.

I can't believe how well this runs on one 970.

I'm on 3440x1440 with everything max (including forced nightmare mode on textures but not shadows) and resolution scaling at 80% and it looks stunning and runs at 60-100 FPS most of the time.

Hopefully vulkan and SLI makes it even better!!

Recently replayed "Wolfenstien : New Order" and "Wolfenstien : Old Blood" when I bought my XR341CK, then DOOM (still playing). :D

Fury X is doing a might fine job, Freesync keeping is all as "smooth as butter", haven't enjoyed gaming so much in ages.

You are not alone, think we just need to wait for some fixes. I didn't have any issues initially but started getting some later in the game as have a lot of others.

Yes the game also crashes to desktop for me multiple times too after an extended play. thankfully the 3 times it crashed yesterday were shortly after checkpoints. This only started after the Doom game ready driver. Never had an issue with the old driver. No error or anything, just a straight exit to desktop.

I like that the finishing moves/glory kills were different depending on what you were doing - quite hard to pull off but there is quite a satisfying one where you stamp a demon into the ground if you come at them from the right angle above.

Not liking the lack of quicksave - sometimes only getting a bit of time to play and don't like redoing sections even if its just a couple of rooms to the next checkpoint and sometimes I want to try stuff that I'm not sure will work (i.e. jumping off/onto scenery near hazards to see if there are secrets) but don't want to go through a few rooms again due to dying to find out.

Yeah, I have exactly the same issues. It's the only downside to an otherwise excellent game.

(Well, that and the lack of working crossfire, of course.)

I didn't really like the chaingun in SP - preferred the assault rifle which used the same ammo :p

It comes into its own when you upgrade it to the mobile turret gun. Sounds awesome and pretty much mows everything down in its path until you run out of ammo. A quick chainsaw kill later and you're fully loaded again.

Do you reckon I have a chance running this decently at 1440p on a 970?

I've only played the first level on a 970 but at 1440p ultra settings it breezed through it no hassle 60+fps mostly - think I worked out it was averaging about 68fps or something. (Assuming you mean 2560x1440 and not 3840x1440).

I was playing it on default settings which were medium on my 970 + 8350. I tried Ultra settings and it was running good but then started getting heavy fps drops. So I put the settings on high and it's running smooth.
