Thanks for that mate.
Yeah like I said my knowledge of items, what is effective, and what to use against who is pretty much none existent at the moment. I am still trying to get the actual mechanics of the game down before I get to in depth into all of that.
Example: I only learnt about the usefulness of wards last night, and didn't even know you could get/use sentry's etc or even what dust is... /dota2noob
Like I said I have LOADS to learn, and its going to take some time. I just want to make sure I can at least be useful support and not be a team burden until I start to learn the more tricky stuff.
I will add you this evening if I get chance, although I might not get to play tonight as I have a few games of squash to play tonight.
Totally understandable, when I first started playing I was just a sheep that did what he was told. There was just too many things to learn all at once so chose a few of the game mechanics and concentrated on developing those, such as ward placement, checking the mini map for missing heroes etc.
I only had a very basic understanding of the items and didn't fully understand why this particular item was recommended or why it was such a large benefit to my hero.
Take a common support item such as "Mekanism"
Bonus HP Regen in an area.
Multiple instances of Mekansm Aura do not stack.
Bonus Health Regeneration: 4
Radius: 750
^ So for every hero in a 750 radius of yourself gets 4hp a second regen. Not huge but nice if you can pick this item up in the early/mid game.
Also the headdress part of the item gives +3hp a second, so if you carry a mek you gain 7hp a second, which is pretty nice in the early game.
Not only that but just from carrying this one item you get:
+5 Strength
+5 Agility
+5 Intelligence
+5 Armor
To gain all of these stats on one inventory slot fantastic.
Now the most important part of this item in the early/mid game. When you activate the item every friendly hero in a 750 radius gets 250 hp and +2 armor. This is huge if you can pick up Mek early enough.
Biggest problem is not forgetting to actually use the item! Which I still do from time to time, or being to greedy to use the item in time. Lion probably isn't the best Mek holder but if you tried other hard support heroes and practiced rushing mekanism and concentrated on activating the item at the correct times, it would be invaluable.
The more you play and the more time you spend breaking down what the recommended items do, it will eventually just all click into place. Then you can start experimenting and trying new things. There is no shame following some hero guides with the suggested item progression.
