But if everyone who plays pubs is in the same boat then either it balances around 50/50 or no one wins.

If you're having issues in pub games and you're playing by yourself, I'd highly recommend just playing with friends... and making sure you're all under the same impression about what you expect from the game. I play with a few people from time-to-time and we generally go in with the understanding that whilst a win would be nice... we'd much rather have fun. So you'll find us experimenting with different heroes, playing different modes for a bit of a change... etc etc.

To cut it short, find some people who understand the basics of the game, or not it doesn't really matter, and just have a laugh... I found when I 'needed' to win every game I played it really ruined the experience of the game in general when I lost. So I just got over myself and now the game is fun for me again..!

Hope you find it fun again, buddy!

EDIT: I have to just throw out there, I'll never do Solo queueing again unless they bring back the ability to actually queue for a game which has solo only people in it... I just get too wound up by having little say in the game. Would recommend the same, really. Don't queue unless you have a friend or two to play with... otherwise you'll just get wound up even more, haha.

Im going to download DOTA 2 after a recommendation from a friend.

I wonder how long it will take me to get out of 'n00b' level? As I hate being in it :p

I have played a lot of C&C and AOE/AOM and this looks similar? So hopefully not too long haha..will check out the videos in the OP

C&C being command and conquer? AOE/AOM - Age of Empires/Age of Mythology?

Yeah it's nothing like those whatsoever :p

Oh great, from the couple of screenshots I looked at, it seemed like you just click and build buildings and an army...guess will find out later :p

Eurgh, just played a game against a clinkz, bounty and treant, as the only person doing any wards (they also had a witch doctor that loved dewarding) and of course our lion didn't want to be helpful in any way shape or form.

Half way though the game though our gyro decides he's annoyed with invoker and starts feeding....not just "I guess he was feeding" but telling us he was feeding, telling the enemy where we were and telling their clinkz where to go to come kill him. What a complete and utter ****.

Least enjoyable game of dota EVER

Must be the bank holiday Monday bringing all the kids out. First game of the day then enemy dazzle fed on purpose and then disconnected, felt bad because he came back before getting a full abandon and then continued to feed. The NP on their team obviously had enough and abandoned for real. So the little s*** won't even get punished for it.

Game after that, enemy abaddon called GG before the creeps spawned. Disconnected 6 times throughout the game but another player on their team eventually had enough and abandoned for real...

Then it was my turn, guy insta picks SF and calls mid. Feeds 4 kills to Pudge within the first 4 minutes of the game.

When you get the close games there is no game that comes close to it but so often it's just a stomp one way or another, usually with some baddie purposely feeding :/

With a win streak like that you can be sure Valve is busy printing out your ticket for the pain train, destination: lose streak city.

Nah I think it's just because I haven't played unranked since ranked came out and you have separate ranked and unranked MMRs right? So obviously I've gotten better since ranked came out and now I'm playing at my old level and its just easy.

As a side, those two necro games are the first two games I've ever played necro and that hero ****ing owns. Just went mid and rushed mek then just go win. Good hero.

Don't be silly, everyone knows it's impossible to win games when you're better than the other people because the entire game is rigged against you!

Oh **** yeah I forgot. Yeah Volvo I'm gonna get a 20 loss streak soon because you hate me.

I'm not so much bothered about the win, I just want a close game I would prefer a close win/loss anytime over a pathetic roflstomp borefest. I just want to enjoy the game to be honest, winning is nice but not my ultimate goal. To be honest I find team games worse than pub at times as I play team with friends to help people and have a laugh, again I want to win but not the ultimate goal. In team games always get stacked against leet try hsrds and I feel like crying! :p

I've actually got the rest of the week away now for work so 4 days off might calm me down and ready me for the soul destruction again. :p

My theory is that MMR (ranked or unranked) is just not accurate at all. So for a given MMR there are certain players who play really above their level, and certain players really below. It just takes so long to make a meaningful change to your mmr (p/m 25 only every game) that bad players don't go down very fast and good players don't go up very fast, so whoever flukes 2-3 strong players on their team stomp, even if everybody's mmr is notionally roughly the same.

There is other factors as well, I find that russians are on average semi-good in lane but after 15 mins they just want to push mid and often throw at that point. I bet most games that russians win finish pretty fast.

Completely agree with your first paragraph.

You should do science or something

I agree but for different reasons. I do not think it is a fault of the MMR system, the variability of a single player's "skill" from game to game is very significant, particularly at low skills. One game you might be that player really above the MMR level, and the next you may be really below. I put people being bad in my games down to them caring less than they usually do or just simply having a bad game.

It's amazing how easily people forget about all the times they get massively carried and remember the times they had a feeder. Confirmation bias all the way.
