I'm on a huge losing streak right now.

All my recent games seem to be vs teams who play 5 man dota tactics from early game and it's steamrolled us. They seem to have all synergised perfectly where as the teams we picked were rubbish.

I'm in much the same position. 6.86 has not been kind to my win/loss ratio!

I seem to go on runs of 1 win, 5 losses, 1 win, 5 losses, 1 win...

I'm actually doing well this patch playing all random. Was on a 12 win streak, had about 12 games of W/L then on a 5 win streak currently. I found I like the map changes so far, team fights in and around jungle offer more opportunities.

Just had a game at 2.5kmmr. A Spectre totally owned us (1000 xpm)

checked his dota profile. Hes played dota 200hrs in the last 2 weeks. He has 5100hours on dota...

The system is flawed. Someone like that shouldn't be playing scrubs. How annoying.

Why? MMR isn't affected by how long you've been playing. The fact that he's still 2.5k after that amount of time says he's not that good!

Or maybe never plays ranked games?

I can assure you he was good. Although no doubt you would argue that.

And to why?.. Well if you put people with 5000hrs in games with people with barely any, then there will be a clear difference in ability. That makes sense right?

Edit again : I do appreciate there probably isn't any way to change that. But it stings. I think a 2.5k player with 1000hrs is probably less skilled that a 2.5k player with 5000hrs

No not really. I've played against people worse than me who've played a lot more and vice versa. Either he calibrated a long time ago and is just getting back into ranked (in which case he'll rise to the mmr he should be and the system works just fine) or he's actually 2.5k mmr and just had a good game/wasn't dealt with at all. Spectre is a strong hero that can carry a game solo.

Recently started playing again. Got up to 4644 and lost like 16 in 20 games. Down to 4.3k again FeelsBadMan, been winning again lately though so should climb back up. Hard to find a lot of time to play now since I started my new job though.

I've won 13 of my last 14 playing all random so pretty chilled at the mo :p

Got Venge last night and ended up having to go mid carry, had my best game as Venge ever and ended up 22/4/14 and was wrecking the other team every fight.

I won 13/14 games just before christmas, got confident enough to go back into ranked after some terrible games with whiners/griefers etc.

lost 5/5 and quit for a month :p

playing casually now at the weekend and I'm enjoying the game.

Sadly, it's too much of an unreliable game to be called a teamgame (which a lot of people forget).

I'm just finishing my all hero and when not doing that I just play all random, can't be bothered with mmr anymore these days.

Win with Medusa and NS in one game on my all hero now 14 games ahead of the world average. Pretty happy with every hero I have left now bar enigma who I don't mind admitting I suck with!

Sell me this game..

I downloaded it on Steam ages ago and had a few single player bouts iirc. It sort of grabbed me. A great deal to learn about tactics and what Hero to play with etc. Is it best to play in a team against real people to practise or just stick to solo for now. I am currently re-downloading it now.

Any of you guys on it much? I wouldn't mid a bit of a lesson if it grabs me a little bit more.

The learning curve is extremely steep even more so if you are new to the MOBA scene.

Coupled with the toxic player base at lower skill levels and the fact that most seem to think that this is a single player game and do what they want with no concept of teamwork will make it ultra dificult.

Sorry not selling it am I, a little sour as my fav game is no longer enjoyable due to playing with fools.

I have dropped 1300 mmr and now because this is a team game and you have to rely on others i am unable to get it back up.

Try and find some friends to play with if you can, even just doing bot games with friends is a nice atmosphere to learn the game in.

And read Purge's guide for new players. It's a great intro to basic concepts in dota and tells you what sort of heroes are good to try out when you are new

The map has changed a little since he updated it but most of the info is still useful.

If you want to get the best out of it and most enjoyment play with friends.

If you don't mind the pain of learning solo (I mostly did) just be patient, don't take the abuse personal and just practice, practice, practice and you will slowly improve.

When you get better it is worth it but there's a lot of pain involved, no other way about it.

I'm a thousand and a bit hours in and whilst I would say I'm half decent any good player would stomp me no bother, accept that unless you have no life you will never be a great player comparatively speaking. Learn the core concepts, play your role correctly and you should be ok.

They do these new game play updates every so often now.

Apparently I'm my last 25 games I have been reported 3 times. :p

Not sure what the most worrying aspect of this
- that 77% of dota players also have 3 reports.
- that getting reported 3 times is green for good.
- I have no idea what I have done to deserve 3 reports.

77% of players reported at least 3 times? I think some people are too happy on the report function!
