Is the demo parts taken from the final game?

Nobody really knows yet, some people have compared certain aspects to the recent trailers and theres differences in some weapons skins compared to the demo. To be fair the demo does seem pretty cobbled together, the build date in one of the files says something like June 1st but it seems like a pretty old build of the game despite what that says.
 
I sometimes wonder, what DNF would've been like if they actually finished and released this version of the game back in 2001:


Back then in 2001, the whole thing just looks more epic from its time, and like it was going up against other heavyweights like HL and Quake to retake the FPS crown. Then years later after development problems, that idea was vetoed.

Why oh why oh why didn't they release that all those years ago. Looks like it would have been a fun game!

If we are getting 10 year old 1st person shooting gameplay then fine. I loved FPS's 10 years ago!

Because it was pretty much smoke and mirrors, the video gave the impression that the game was nearing completion, in reality it was basically small segments that they made a trailer out of.

Indeed, the only thing dull and generic about that video was the monotone dribbling of that guy, he's entitled to his "foughts" (as he put it) but realistically he's nitpicking about things that a lot of games do. Its only getting more emphasis on this game due to the fact its taken ages to come out and every armchair expert wants to tear it a new ass.
 
Whilst the demo looks disappointing, I won't be cancelling my pre-order.

Only 2 guns at a time? I'd be surprised if someone didn't make a mod to change that within a week of the game's release. The game feels like a 99/00 shooter? So? A lot of us have had enough of these so-called "modern realistic shooters" and want some good old-fashioned fragging fun.

I'm looking forward to playing the result of 14 years of development, and seeing the ideas they came up with during that time.
 
The thing that does bug me about the game the most is the health system. In the manhattan project game you had the proper ego system where your health would regen from doing things to boost your ego like killing enemies, drinking beer, etc. Now its just the standard generic regenerating health system that just about every other fps seems to have copied from Halo.

I really don't get the massive stiffy game devs have for this cheesy system, it seems every shooter that comes out these days has it and its just getting tedious. Hope that can be modded along with the ability to carry more weapons.
 
I'm just hoping that there is a lot more interactive funny stuff in the final game. I had more fun throwing poop around, compared to shooting alien pigs and blowing up a space craft :p
 
FXAA introduces sub 60fps I found, FSAA is seamless but neither employ any FSAA usage which is a bit weird but this is an old demo...

Anyway, the graphics were perfectly acceptable and in some areas were borderline sublime where lighting and atmospheric effects played their parts.

And yes, I spent ages flinging turd around. it had to be done.

Screenshots don't look very good at all :S very bland.
 
I just played the demo and the reason it don't lay great I think is cos they just smashed up some levels I don't think they cared about making sure the demo was good.
As for the way it looks I think it looks good some of the post effect's don't seem rite thou to bluring anyhow I posted some screens in Hi-Res Thread.
 
That stadium fight scares me... There's absolutely no skill required, at all? Seems pointless?
Seconding this. What I found peculiar about it compared to other games is that you can quite easily just circle-strafe the boss character, it doesn't even lead the missiles it fires to take account of where you're going to be. I thought that was pretty basic FPS fare. You've got so much room to play with too, there's literally zero sense of peril at all.

Also what is the point of limited ammo when you just get infinite ammo drops from a plane anyway? Where's the importance of ammo management?

2 guns and magically regenerating health too.. console-itus ahoy!
 
Also if people didn't know this is the demo Gearbox have been using since they started helping with the project, so at least 5-6 months old? I don't think its going to look/get much better in the final product but the effects/level selection might be kind of outdated
 
Completed the demo, this game is going to be below average quality I think, only jokes can save it a bit but probably no more than 6/10. Gameplay is kinda 10 years outdated.

Half Life came out 10 years ago, and I have to say it appears to be better thought out?!
 
I just hope its nothing like serious sam gameplay cos i couldnt stand that game (got a feeling it might be tho). Im hoping this duke is funny like the old duke game and adult themed.
