I think it is actually quite good and one of the most refreshing shooters I have played in a while. What with all the BLOPS Crysis military shooters that we seem to get nowadays.
It is certainly funny in a purile sense, however it knows what it is and tries to be nothing more. the one liners have not got tired and Duke exclaiming 'what the *&%$' in the high pitched voice when getting miniturised for the first time was comic timing. The interactions are brilliant and actually do add to the gameplay, contrary to what the chap said before when reviewing the demo. They are a great way to boost your life bar instead of picking up some green glowy stuff which for some reason boosts your HP a la other games.
The graphics are fine; they do not assault the eyes and the shooting mechanics are solid.
One thing is for sure; it has captured the Duke magic spot on and it feels like playing a Duke game. A remake or sequel of a much loved IP is often in danger of being contrived, however I am happy to find that this is not the case.
There are certainly some gameplay mechanics which are simple and borderline dull, such as shooting the Mothership. Playing these you actually panic about dying as you do not want to go through it again. Happily they are brief and I hope there are not a load of these.
I certainly do not regret my preorder. I play games for entertainment and nothing more and this is so far ticking the right boxes.
