*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

I've learnt that it's not as easy to run away from enemy NPC's as it is in the single player games. I was attacked by a bear at a low level (I shouldn't have wandered off too far) and even though I was quite far ahead of it, it's swipe managed to damage me. Luckily I managed to jump in the water and then it couldn't get me.

Some of those "missing" features arent missing, they are design decisions

I'm not talking about the Auction House, I'm talking about Combat logs, Floating Names, Numbers on HUD... things that they might not WANT you to have as they desperately try and make it into a single player in all but name but reality is that you should have the choice to play with such basics if you want, even if they are off by default.

Oh dear, now you've done it !!! they don't approve of people talking sense in this thread !!! (although I and many others agree with most of what you say)

I think the addon Foundry Tactical Combat will give you most of that, personally I'm enjoying the scenery more than I enjoyed floating numbers as a serious raider ;)

I'm not overly fussed about any of those to be honest, floating names I guess would be nice, but ONLY if its over allies only, if they ever..ever add floating names over enemies , or floating titles, or any form of floating text over enemies, I will have to seriously think whether I want to stay with the game.

Numbers on HUD, I guess its a nice option to have for those who want it, but I wouldnt use it anyway, I didnt have them in UO or Daoc, so I dont need them here.

Choices are always nice though, so I've no problem if they wanted to add those things in (apart from anything over enemies heads), but I would never use them. However I am not sure I would agree with the key word in the post that they are a "need". A want, for some people, I could see, but a "need", nah. We did fine in UO and Daoc without them as a need. As I say though, sure thing, add them in (apart from words over enemies heads), but they are not anything I would use, nor are they something which impacts or lessens my game because of their absence.

Agreed people say they design choices I say its lazy developing, and pretty stupid to have being left out.

Displaying players names helps add to the feel your in an MMo and not a single player RPG. In PvP it's great to see what guild the players your fighting are from which again adds to the experience, it causes conflict and notoriety.

Whilst they are not essential, there should at least be an option to display them or not. Is it true they were actually in the game in alpha/beta but removed ?

No idea, but in PvP, I dont want the fact that I am positioned behind a rock or tree to be spoilt because the enemy can see the words above my head sticking out from the terrain, so I would just have mine turned off all the time anyway

Fair point, except that doesn't happen in any of the other MMo's I'm playing so why would that be different in ESO ? :p

*if I'm wrong about that I'll openly admit it*

Happens in almost all the MMOs that I've played, the number of times in past MMOs where I have been stood behind something, or I've spotted an enemy not because I have seen him, but because I have seen his title sticking out from the side of a building, or around some terrain. Its just daft, always been something which has bugged me in PvP in MMOs that I have all this great terrain in the PvP, particularly in huge scale PvP lands, like in Daoc etc, and I cant utilize the terrain properly because I have "General LeetWarrior - Rank 12 <Heroes of Valour>" hovering over my head the whole time that I try and use the terrain to obscure me. So unneccesary and if anything , completely counter effective to any other tactics that dont involve simply running straight at the enemy.

I would prefer it was displayed by a Guild Banner you could wear rather than text above a guys head.

Interesting, I've just quickly checked in Rift and Aion and the name/guild are obscured until the character is in view. Maybe some smart a$$ will re-enable it ingame via a 'mod' so people have the option.

Servers down...? Time for some screen-shots (large files so spoilered.)
