*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

Why would you let it put you off? I watched the review and couldn't really disagree with any of the points he made but I think he exaggerated them massively, excluding the questing in groups stuff which is a bit shocking.

For the most part the quests are engaging and fun, much more so than most MMOs and I've found bugs to be few and far between. I'm level 42 now and still enjoying it very much.

I think it's pretty unfair to judge an MMO against a single player RPG experience as many people seem to want to do, of course the questing isn't going to be as polished as Skyrim but ESO offers so much more, the PvP is certainly the highlight for me which is only as zergy as you want it to be.

It just did for some reason.....but im going to give it another go....ill defientley get to 50 and see how it goes from there.

Most bad things I have heard people say about the game, are from people that have not even played it. Everyone I know that has played it, loves it.
The few bugs I have come across (quest people not following me, stuck on loading) have been fine after a simple logout (or force close for the stuck on loading) but the bugs for the most part have been rare.

What about the reviewers and the users who gave marks on review sites? Have they not played the game as well?

For how long do you need to play a game (especially an mmo) to be able to write a review on it?

As a game reviewer, I know the difficulty of finding the balance of time played to when you feel you have seen enough of the game to write a review. This is why I never review mmo's - they are too long, have way too much content and are subject to extreme change.

All reviews I have seen (and I havent seen that many for this game) have been really pedantic about the negative points and constantly compare it to Skyrim.

Maybe they shouldnt have tried to fool people into thinking it was a direct successor to Skyrim then?

I may have missed when they said this. Do you have a source?
I never remember then saying 'It's going to be skyrim, but mmo' - just an mmo in the elder scrolls universe - and when you are playing ESO you really feel like you are in the elder scrolls universe. It doesn't feel like its anything close to a generic mmo with elder scrolls textures.

Did they? Nothing that I read or saw during the build up to the game lead me to believe that it was going to be anything like Skyrim, never mind a direct successor.

Just curious, do you have the game?

Well for one the UI is a direct rip from Skyim and from memory a lot of their Dev videos continuously referenced Skyrim.

We will have to disagree there then because that’s exactly what this game is, a generic MMO with ES class diversity tacked on. Even taking out the MMO element, as an ES title its not very good :(

Nope, closed beta all the way up to last beta weekend or 2. And from what I've read/spoken to people who play its only gotten worse.

To clarify, by 'worse' I mean the game breaking bugs, not quest bugs which were rampent etc. I mean Weapon Swap delay, ability delay, duping, Skills randomly resetting and on and on..

I've not had any of those bugs and have not seen much about it. I have however, had the 'frozen loading screen' bug when teleporting to Cryodiil. A game of this scale has had not as nearly the amount of bugs you would expect. I've had more bugs playing Skyrim than ESO. Also, patches are still constantly coming out - you cannot go into an mmo and not expect bugs (hell, you cannot go into any game and not expect bugs) from what I have read, WoW's launch also had many many bugs.

Is there a button you can press to change to your second weapon rather than do it through the menu? Realised I've not really been using second weapon loadout.

Also, can you re-map skill points?

I often come across this myth. Apparently, MMO's are from another dimension and they shouldn't be judged during the first 5, 10, 20, X hours, like all other forms of entertainment; it's only after you've invested a period of time in them that they should be judged. Ridiculous.

There's a reason why there's a lot of focus on negative points - they can't be ignored and they often outweigh the positive points.

At level 42, I can safely say quest bugs are far from rampant, I've come across two so far. Weapon swap delay and ability delay are most likely from lag which isn't uncommon in a new MMO, and again, it's rare. Duping? People keep saying the economy is ruined but there's no auction house and you can't just buy full epic gear, the only advantage dupers have over me is more bag space. Never heard of skills resetting.

Game breaking is way too strong a term.

Yeah, I set my weapon swap to V as I don't use first person, and can always zoom in with the scroll wheel if needed. You can indeed respec skill points, there's a shrine you need to go to and I believe it's rather expensive, something like 250 gold for each skillpoint but not certain about that.

Um, your joking right?

, from what I have read, WoW's launch also had many many bugs.

Bit of a fallacy this, the 1-60 questing experiance was pretty much 'perfect', it was very rare to run into a broken quest. yes the endgame dungeons were buggy and quite often not finished (hi MC). You also had the loot bug, but that was server side just due to the amount of people wanting to play (something that cant be levied at ESo).

Um, your joking right?

No. how many of the bugs have you experienced? Unexpected server downtime had probably been less than 15 hours (people are timing it on the interwebs) and I, and all my friends have only encountered a few bugs that have been fixed by logging out and logging in again. I've seen more bugs on linear single player games.

As I said, I just read about the problems WoW had on launch - and from what I read there were a lot more bugs and server downtime.

It was also an incredibly dull and tedious levelling experience in comparison to ESO.

It's the same as anything, you can't judge it as a whole unless you've experienced the whole thing. If you start watching a film, decide it's crap after 10 minutes and turn it off, you can say the first 10 minutes were crap but you can't say that about the entire film because you don't know. Or you could order some food in a restaurant and only try one small part of the meal, you could say the part that you tried was bad but you can't say that about the parts you haven't even tried because again, you just don't know.

There's a reason why there's a lot of focus on negative points - they can't be ignored and they often outweigh the positive points.

That depends on your priorities I suppose but in my experience, all the negativity towards this game seems way out of proportion and mostly comes from people who didn't even buy the game, which makes it quite weird how they go out of their way to bash it.

Im not playing, its one of the few AAA mmo titles I havent picked up at launch. Out of curisoty have you played many MMO's at launch?

server downtime.

Queues, queues everywhere! Mind you back then Blizz used to be quite customer focused so we got free days play :)

people who didn't even buy the game, which makes it quite weird how they go out of their way to bash it.

Its a ES game, the series is beloved by a lot of people. Gamers also like to whinge :p

Well they are wrong. Things have much improved since the Beta. And I think you are just reading forums and taking the worst bits out and make sweeping statements based on those worst bits.

If the game was that badly broken, I wouldn't be still playing. Every MMO has had bugs at launch.

And I honestly think you should stop posting in this thread. You don't play the game, you have no intentions of ever playing the game. You are always going to post negatives and not about things that you know, just things you have read.

You see everyone that I speak to, online in my guild or friends that play the game, all acknowledge that there are bugs and problems. But, all of them are enjoying the game. And just like every other MMO, the number of bugs/problems will go down as time goes on.

my last couple of posts have been folks asking me questions? Dont want my opinion, dont ask me
