It's buy to play, then there's an optional subscription model which gives you DLC access for as long as you stay subscribed, and a monthly income of coins. You can use the coins to buy cosmetics, as well as the DLC which will stay active without a subscription if bought via this method. You can also buy coins in the store for RL money. For a free to play model, it's pretty good. You don't 'need' to subscribe or buy coins, 90% of the store is cosmetic/mounts, etc.

Just having a look around for the best deal - am I right in saying that you need the base game of "Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited" and then you can either subscribe or just buy the new add-on of Morrowind?

Is the base game still the best place to start (it's quite an old game now!) or would you be better advised to buy both and jump straight into Morrowind?

Also, if I buy it from an online key seller, can I play it through Steam?

Thanks...

I've started with just buying Tamriel Unlimited and a 3 month sub to ESO Plus. Certainly enough to be getting on with without Morrowind!

@Lacutis if anyone wants to add me.

You need to buy Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited whatever you decide to do, so it's not money wasted. Just a note that you don't get Morrowind free for being a subscriber, you still have to buy it separately. The base game is fine to level up in, I don't have Morrowind (yet) but from what I've seen and read, it looks more polished as they've probably learnt a lot from designing the original areas. Also it's Morrowind - if that's your thing. But the original game and it's areas still hold up well today for me.

My advise would be just get the base game, see if you like it. Less investment and you can still top-up to Morrowind later once you get a feel for it. An online key seller version will only add to Steam if it's a Steam key. The game originally only had it's own launcher and ran outside Steam. You can link a non-Steam account to Steam however it requires you purchase the game again via Steam (I did this when it was on sale on Steam). Check whether the key you buy is labelled as a 'Steam' key, if not it will download via the Bethesda Launcher, or whatever it's called similar to Rockstar Social Club.

I've had a break from playing, left it at level 47, and picked it up again last week. Just hit champion level 100. I'm loving it and realise why I started playing in the first place. Mainly play heavy dps and it's soooooooo much fun!

Anyone have issues with running ShadowPlay with ESO?

I've been playing more regularly after taking a year off since picking up morrowind a few weeks back, my username is in the OP if people want to add me.

I know this is probably a daft question but I have bought the base game bundled with the Morrowind expansion and it's just installed one "game" as far as I can see and so I wanted to make sure I was starting at the beginning!

Basically I was on a ship that crashed and my first task is to half-inch some clothes and a key for someone so we can escape - is this the start of the original game??

No that's the new start for Morrowind but makes no real difference since as soon as you touch foot on any location outside of Morrowind you get given a link to start the Soul Shriven main quest line from the original. Out of interest did you roll a Warden?

I really do like the ESO levelling system that essentially means you can go anywhere just with more skills and a better stats pool as you level up, the fact that your gear levels down as you level up meaning you have to keep on top of refreshing it to stay competitive in PvE areas.

To be honest I didn't notice anything about a "Warden" - on my character creation I think I just went for a "Redguard/Dragon Knight" I think - it seemed to be a fairly bog-standard warrior class??

Coming into ESO as a complete beginner is there a decent beginners tutorial I should be looking at before I crack on??

The main thing to get your head around in ESO is that all the class selection does is determine your spells. Every class can train in any type of armour and weapon, so it's perfectly possibly to have a tank sorcerer, a staff wielding dragon knight in robes, and so on. Obviously you can min-max and certain classes have tankier or dps-ier spells than others, but it's quite possible to be viable with some really strange combinations.

What are people's views on the warden, incidentally? I haven't gone much past the My First Bear stage, but I'm struggling to like the concept so far :/

Really like mine, currently at 43 with him, Breton magic/staff build with destro primary, heal secondary, currently working all 3 class lines to morph and the same on both staff lines, equipped with 5 light armour, 1 medium and 1 heavy so all armour lines are dinging, all attribute points thrown into magica. Not the biggest DPS or heal but a good all rounder with great survivability.

How does this work? I feel like I'm starting half way through the game by not going back to the originals quest line!

I've gone to the Vivec city I think and am just learning the basics of crafting htc!

How do I get to the original game quest?

Don't worry you're not, The Lord Vivec story line is entirely separate from the Molag Bal one. To get the link in to the original story line use a Wayshrine to any active one in your Faction questing areas and a messenger should kick off the link to start the quest line.
