**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

Any sign of high res texture packs yet? Not that I have any performance left for it, but some textures are really poor.

Although the graphics and interface are a bit clunky at times I'm really enjoying the game. building and crafting etc could have been explained better, had to seek internet help. Can see me putting in a lot of hours.

Witcher 3 dare I say, was slightly boring to me. I liked the main story line and the graphics were great however I had zero interest in exploring or actually being a witcher.
It had zero excitement outside the main quest for me. In fallout you never know what's going to happen or what your actions will do in the world. I felt the witcher 3 was a bit predictable. Just my view.

You are not alone with these thoughts :)

How do you repair power armour? I'm carrying about a left arm, and finding it impossible to repair. It says I cant transfer it back over until it's repaired:confused:

I think just keep the spare in your inventory. When at the repair station you should get an option to "add or repair the arm/leg etc"

I feel the exact opposite. After a few hours of Witcher 3 I was hooked. ~18 hours into Fallout 4 and I couldn't care less about this guy or his son. It's fun, but doesn't flow as well as Witcher 3.

I am looking forward to Giant Bombs game of the year discussion and although a couple of them have struggled to go back and finish the W3, without a doubt the Bloody Baron quest line will be giving the nod for best "Story/Mission/Quest" whatever you want to call it.

I am not attached to the FO4 story line yet but exploring is pretty fun.

Have to say, I haven't even started fallout 4 yet as its waiting to be picked up but the information in this thread is awesome, some good tips without really spoiling anything. Still pretty much unaware of what happens apart from what I know from the trailers.

Not looking forward to try and get it working in surround tho :(

Anyone noticed this hammering their cpu? Mines certainly is.

Nope I fact totally the opposite getting fairly low usage on all fronts apparently. Noticed last night when I looked on afterburner. Running 1080p everything maxed out 16gb ram, i5 4th gen no oc, gtx 980 overclocked getting near constant 60fps.

What setting and hardware you running it on?.

I think power armour itself is fairly confusing as it's never explained properly until I saw a little help tab in a loading menu.

Some power armour explanation:

You find power armour shells around the wasteland (these may include power armour parts e.g. left leg, right arm etc.) however the parts themselves you carry in your inventory which you then need to bring to a power armour stand to repair. You don't need the shell to repair parts or does the shell need to be anywhere need the repair stand. Once repaired you can then transfer/equip them onto the shell (if the shell is next to the stand you can do this within the armour stand itself, if not transfer them onto the shell like normal item transfer).

It took me a while to realise the difference between the parts and the actual shell, the shell you can actually use with a fusion cell without any parts, but will be pretty naff but gets it from A to B if you find one in the wasteland.

This over explains your question but a few people have been a little confused about power armour, myself included.

I'm only speaking for myself here but I couldn't give a jot about the story, for me it's about making your own story, exploring and doing things how you want instead of following the quest line. It may have been important to me if the games had all followed on from each other. That being said I regularly skip through dialogue in games as I don't have the patience to sit through 5 minute ones :p

In W3 everyone is playing the same character, in FO4 it's more your own.

It's not that I didn't enjoy witcher as I really did. Just didn't feel like I mattered in the world even when I changed an event. In fallout and indeed skyrim, oblivion you really felt you had a major impact.
There was also no real incentive to really explore the game often it felt dead for miles then a little town with zero going on.
I felt it was really balanced towards the main quest were fallout has always been literally do what you want kinda thing.

And the witcher 3 was basically about running about after women. I've done enough of that in real life!

Spec in sig. Most ive ever seen my cpu reach in game was 67c but across most cores im getting 74-75c with 2 gentle tuphoons flat out on my h100i. All settings maxed at 2560x1080.

GameGPU has done their hardware tests:

http://gamegpu.ru/rpg/rollevye/fallout-4-test-gpu.html

Seems,to actually show a reasonable amount of threading, unlike Skyrim did!!
Impressive.

Really seems to help out AMD CPU's as well. For the first time in a long time an 8350 is actually competitive with an Intel i5.

The low vRAM usage is also a decent sign. I mean, with the texture qualities on show, it's not surprising, but at least it feels representative and shows reasonable memory management. Also leaves plenty of headroom for high res textures later on!

is this worth a buy? the steam reviews are kinda putting me off, what are people on here thinking of it?

I don't take user reviews on AAA titles very seriously anymore. Majority of them if you read through are rather silly. They can be good for some smaller, lesser known games where you don't have people trolling for likes.

Only way you know whether you'll like a game is if you try it yourself or if literally everyone says it's terrible.
