**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

At the end of the day the effect is the same, skills or not. Can still make different builds based on stats and perks.

I don't know what effects SPECIAL stats have anymore, and I liked perks for boosting the old skill sets or other fun bonuses, that's what perks were for.

Now I mean I have no idea why I picked 8 INT ( always leave 1 or 2 points for when finding a wobblehead or for drugs that boost this stat), there's no point since it doesn't give me extra skill points to distribute after leveling.

While I don't really agree with you I have had a game refunded on steam with more then 2 hours game play, as long as you can justify it they are normally pretty good.

For example I explained that the games prologue/tutorial was so long that by the time I got to try the actual game it was almost two hours anyway, I then listed a few of the points as to why I felt it was poor. I had about 4 and a 1/2 hours on the clock and got a refund quite quickly.

May not always work as it could depend on how good a day the customer service person is having, but if you really feel that way there is no harm in trying.
Steam refunded my Season Pass DLC within 2 hours

I cannot realistically ask for a refund for the full game as I played it for approx 11 hours before deciding it was not the Fallout game I expected it to be & Bethesda were reusing so much of the earlier games but just re-editing or concealing for the sake of it to conceal that can I!

Now I can uninstall & save the disk space until its £3.74 in about 2 years!!

Good for you mate. Now would be a good time to bow out and leave the people who enjoy it to the discussion.

Getting into this now, first couple of hours I was pretty bored although the intro was nice, good seeing the skeleton's by the gate belonging to the people queuing there that couldn't get into the vault, gave the game some feels. Now I'm slowly starting to get into the story line, 60% of the graphics are utter gash and 40% are some of the best I've seen, the fog in particular. 2nd best to Witcher3 atm, but that could change will have to see.

I still don't get the abilities tree I can add points to the top row how do you access the lower tiers I'm like level 7 now I'm I just being plain stupid or do you need a certain amount of points in one of the top tiers to unlock the lower?

Comparisons to Witcher 3 are a bit silly.

That game also has aspects that are far far worse. Loot is generally rubbish(itemisation is woeful), crafting is pretty pants, quests are often pretty tedious, endless amounts of tedious dialogue, there are no dungeons of note, combat is sub par. Enjoyable but the RPG nerds overrate it far far too much. :)

rpg nerds are probably being the most critical about it.

loot is fine your luck is too low

combat is vastly improved on FO3 infact so much so i think it's too easy outside of vats there is no real reason to use vats except to stall time a bit.

crafting is confusing but it has some good elements.

but then i'd have been happy with FO3 in a new city with a new storyline.

I don't think people really understand SPECIAL and perks.

When you level up, you can either spend a point to raise the level of a SPECIAL attribute, or you can use it to level up a perk.

Your level of each SPECIAL attribute determines which perks in that tree are unlocked.

So when you level up, you can either improve one of the perks you already have access to, or increase a SPECIAL to unlock new perks.

It would be nice if they explained what the actual impact on your SPECIAL level is, rather than the vague 'increases AP regeneration' and the like.

TL;DR
Level up = 1 point to spend in either SPECIAL or perk.
Increasing a SPECIAL attribute will increase related things (S = more weight allowance, I = more xp gained) but this increase isn't clearly explained anywhere.
Increasing a SPECIAL attribute also unlocks perks down its tree.
The first point in ANY perk is not level dependent, only SPECIAL dependent, other points will tell you the level requirement.

Even though it's greyed out you can still select it. Just click on the one you want and press enter to confirm. This also confused me at first, the game doesn't tell you anything. I still have no idea about town building.

Still not had a good chance to play this yet :(

Probably a good thing as now with all the fixes I can re-start the beginning in surround screen instead of having my peripheral vision cut off :p

I've done the fallout4prefs.ini edit to force 2560x1080 resolution on my ultra-wide 34" Dell screen.

It also works at the screens default resolution of 3440x1440 but is a bit laggy on my single 780 gpu.

I see the first hd retextures starting to come out so far
Old world money, blood, night sky and fatman have 2k - 4k texture havn't tested them yet

Caved and ordered. Looking forward to immersing my self in the world. Never actually finished 3 or NV, but love playing NV up till I lost my save and couldn't bring myself to start again.

I've pretty much just been wandering around looking at stuff and exploring for the 3 or 4 hours I've been playing it. When folk are saying 'building my base' can someone explain briefly what that entails? I'm a bit lost!

There's a mission very early on that helps you learn the ropes of very basic base building tools; placing water pumps, planting food, building beds, etc.

Basically settlement are a whole new branch of side jobs added to your every growing check list of things that need doing.

You need to...:

Consider clearing out potential places to build (you can expand your reach, or just stick with the base town area.)
Manage and grow your settlements to make them more inviting to higher level traders to move in, meaning better loot, etc.
Set-up and manage trade routes between multiple settlements so you have access to a whole deposit of resources at any settlement.
Defend against potential attacks, although this rarely happens.
...and of course just make cool looking bases  Who doesn't want to make a massive garage filled the brim will all sorts of Power Armour suits ready n' waiting to go on quests, or a tall sniper point/watch tower to look over the entirety of the maps surroundings?

I am really on the fence with this seeing everyones opinions opinion is very much marmite lol

from my experience i really enjoyed fallout 3 but the over reliance of that slow motion system griped and ruined the experience for me

fallout NV - i couldnt get into from the off i am not sure why perhaps because i liked the intro on FO3? and the first time exiting the vault when getting blinded by light and looking at the wasteland found it very immersive, can that feeling be replicated on fallout 4?

thanks :)

VATS is different on this it doesn't stop time fully anymore so mobs will still be charging at you, tbh I've been playing it more like a fps shooter and using vats when I want to see some heads explode in slow motion.

F4 is a lot closer to F3 for me, I also couldn't get into NV and this I've got over 10 hours in so far, granted around 5 of those are base building :p
