**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

It is a complainers paradise here to be fair.

'Oh it doesn't look exactly the same as Witcher 3, not worth playing' Maybe not, still the best looking game I've played this year.

'Oh its buggy' Yup, but not game breaking (you guys know that pressing F5 then F9 removes the bugs right) and at least it isn't so bad it's been pulled from sale and refunds given like another AAA title this year.

'Small and bland world' Erm its a nuclear apocalypse, what were you expecting? Bland is part of the atmosphere and small obvs doesn't account for the 30 mins plus it takes you to clear each bunker.

'We want crafting. Oh wait too much crafting.' Game devs really cant win can they? People like it so they include more of it, and then people hate it because they dont want to use it.

It makes me laugh tbh. People loved the weather and atmospherics mods that were made for FO:NV, the designers see that and include them into this game and people moan. People moan about crafting, it gets added, they moan. The world is more in depth, rather than explore it people play the game for an hour or so and moan.

Moan moan moan moan moan.

At this rate with the whingey ratings users are giving it this will be the last big release for Bethesda, long live pc gaming, the king is dead.

Starting to get a bit bored already after around 9 hours. The clumsy interface does become annoying to use even though I like the look of it, the character animations/lip sync and dialogue is pretty dire, the quests don't seem to have much imagination so far and the game as a whole feels so bland once night sets in. The most interesting thing so far has been upgrading the weapons and the hacking.

Edit - Should probably add, only encountered one minor bug and the game runs really well on most settings to ultra (1080p). This aspect hasn't hindered me in the slightest. Only thing I've changed is FOV to 90.

My main gripes so far are how small and bland the world is. Also how little variation of weapons there are so far. Pretty much every weapon I find is some variation of a pipe weapon. I'm hoping there will be some unique guns and more variation further into the game.

It was great playing New Vegas and stumbling upon really cool locations miles off the beaten track. On FO4 I headed towards Diamond City and checked the map to see that I was at the other end of it :(. Really disappointed, it's removed the adventure element that i really enjoy in these types of games.

The pipe guns and the variations of it are what you find at the start because they're the cheap/nasty weapons raiders use and in the beginning that's mostly what you'll find. The map isn't small when you realise just how many locations there are just by Sanctuary, let alone Boston itself!

Keep exploring, everyone seems to have judged the game too quickly when in fact it feels a lot bigger than F03/NV considering the time it's taken to really adventure. I'm 32 hours in and haven't covered half the map and barely many quests! :p

Really, are you serious? GOTY over The Witcher 3, no chance!

The chat wheel is HORRIFIC and needs ini modifications, yeh GOTY

This is another one I've seen a lot... what exactly is wrong with the chat wheel? I get suitable options to each conversation and decide whether I want to be a good guy and answer nicely or a total **** and hate on everyone?

What is wrong with it as I don't understand?

Hit it on the head.

Don't worry though there are still some of who believe in game because it really is superb.

Add me to the list of people finding it pretty disappointing.

One problem I'm having (and I'm genuinely wondering whether it might be a bug) is the game looking a bit naff. The textures seem to be really poor for me. Settings all say I'm using ultra for texture detail but it looks really low res for me with washed out colours. Anyone else getting this?

its an old engine.
ancient even.

dragon age inq is 30 years newer and the statue what a rpg game should be about no reason to not have dx11 or even better dx12 2015 soon 2016 for a rpg game.

f4 have good gameplay but the visuals are a turn off.

I really like the visuals, they are atmospheric and add real effect to a post nuclear town and land. They have focused on details in these areas, and the godrays look amazing as do the radfog which comes and goes. Lighting effect nice too.

Nice nice eye candy affects for me. I sit and look around at it sometimes and really take it in.

I'm not saying its superb, not by a long way.

I'm saying its an improvement on previous versions without a doubt, and a 'good game'.

I'm saying that uninstalling because it crashes 5 times on your system (i've never had a crash yet btw, possible PICNIC fault there) and crying because 'its not witcher 3' is just BS.

If this was the best game ever known to man people would still moan like **** instead of playing it for what it is. Unfortunately the cancer that is steam reviews and metacritic giving a voice to morons might prevail.

Visually it's graphically underwhelming (in terms of engine) but aesthetically fantastic. The weather and time of day effects are great, the radiation storms are absolutely amazing.

I could see why the bugs and sometimes obtuse nature of various gameplay elements might bug people if you are new to Bethesda games, but for people complaining who are familiar with their work...you knew what it would be like.

They have been making the same games on the same engine for years now and thats what people love. Sure they make changes but people will be complaining they've taken those same changes away in the next game :p

Neil has a vendetta against the game, was slating it even before the first screenies came out.

And everything I've said has been spot on

I'm still playing it now though, it's an average to good game, but GOTY no chance. I can guarantee if this wasn't Fallout, half you lot wouldn't be giving it such high praise.

Ps not one crash here :p

I think the game looks great in general, but I occasionally catch a bad texture(like real bad) and think what the hell is that?!

Rubble in particular looks horrific.

It's the volumetric lighting that makes the game.

I'm genuinely surprised you even bought it seeing how much you were slating it pre-release.

This isn't fanboyism btw, if it was a **** I'd be calling it one fair and square.

oh, and there was this:

Who cares about the way the game looks anymore, I've decided to look forward to all the **** mods! Yeh, Fallout pervs unite!

A quote from 5 days before th game released.

Also unquoted was you posting gif about how bad the game looked on the 5th, 6 days before release.

Who's declaring it GOTY? no one in this thread that I've seen. Guess everyone must be too busy trying to shove copies of Witcher 3 up their backside hoping it gets golden joystick award or something.

Glad I've got my £40 worth of entertainment out of this game, plus the added bonus that it seems to be annoying you by being something it's not.

People do need to give this time as well. It starts off as a shooter really but now Ive finished up the first lot of quests Im frigging knee deep in OCD scrapping/building everything in my first settlement. Ive just spent nearly 2 hours building and renovating the land to build Greggsville :D

Only 3 night shifts to go before my 10 days off to play it all day everyday in my underwear

same here ive been working nights all week... so only been able to get 2-3 hours a day :(

now im off till tuesday weather is bad so no fishing so im staying in my pants till i have to go back work :D

Good plan :D

I wish I had picked the 34" ultrawide monitor Ive been looking at before I started this as I really want one and the vistas in this game would be perfect to get wrapped up in

34 hours in! - Very much enjoying the game, love the back stories to the companions "NV" being my favourite as he has an amazing story and has the occasional chat with you to get things off his chest, fantastic. :)

Some screenshots to share, no spoilers. :D (21:9)
