**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

Moan moan moan moan moan.

You do realise you are moaning yourself? People airing a few gripes at least adds to the discussion, you moaning about other people apparently moaning adds nothing.

'Small and bland world' Erm its a nuclear apocalypse, what were you expecting? Bland is part of the atmosphere and small obvs doesn't account for the 30 mins plus it takes you to clear each bunker.

I was expecting it to be less bland and larger, obviously. I know exactly what to expect from nuclear apocalypse game having put hundreds of hours in all the Stalker and Fallout games. Maybe I haven't stumbled across any areas that stand out yet having 'only' put 24 hours into it.

I'm not saying it's a bad game as I am enjoying it, but those were a couple of things I thought could have been better. Hopefully the second will be sorted out when the texture mods start rolling in. The lighting etc is great, just needs a bit more variation and better looking textures to really pop imo.

The pipe guns and the variations of it are what you find at the start because they're the cheap/nasty weapons raiders use and in the beginning that's mostly what you'll find. The map isn't small when you realise just how many locations there are just by Sanctuary, let alone Boston itself!

Keep exploring, everyone seems to have judged the game too quickly when in fact it feels a lot bigger than F03/NV considering the time it's taken to really adventure. I'm 32 hours in and haven't covered half the map and barely many quests!

I'm 24 hours in but haven't been everywhere yet. Still quite early on in the main story I think. I have just found a snub nose revolver and a hunting rifle, so its certainly getting better.

10 hours in an Im getting pretty bored.
Quests are repetetive and pretty dire, dialog is pretty pants.

Although Ive made a semi-decent settlement Im failing to see the point in them, they just seem to be...there...

Do occasionally find some interesting locations though, do enjoy discovering other vaults and finding out what happened to them.

This is another one I've seen a lot... what exactly is wrong with the chat wheel? I get suitable options to each conversation and decide whether I want to be a good guy and answer nicely or a total **** and hate on everyone?

What is wrong with it as I don't understand?

Two main things:

1) All interactions are limited to 4 responses. This is not ideal.

2) The options given are NOT what the character actually says. This is the big thing that is wrong with it. The player has no way to choose what their avatar says. The player chooses one of the limited number of responses...and their character says something else, something the player has no control over. So the character says something the player didn't choose and says it in a way the player didn't choose and in a voice the player didn't choose, with words and intonation that the player didn't choose. That's quite a long way from ideal.

Not worth the wait then?

I think it is. I think it's close enough to Fallout 3 to be excellent. It crashed to desktop during the first few seconds of the intro video until I got the latest graphics drivers, but it's been perfect since then. I don't like the voiced protagonist and I dislike the dialogue wheel, but I'm finding them tolerable. Other than that, I'm well pleased with it. Although I might well have preferred a new game using exactly the same engine and UI as Fallout 3.

The standard 'W' key is more of a jog than a walk (standard). Is it possible to actually walk?

And sorry for repeating myself, but does anyone know of a toggle aim mod yet?

Thanks!

Refunding my season pass with Steam this game is overall very poor no way am I putting anymore time into it shame I spent more than 2 hours on it hoping it would improve otherwise I would have requested a full refund for the main game as well :(

I hope Bethesda enjoy the early sales success  as this game will not sell over time its simply too dated & does not build on the earlier Fallout games its just a very lazy typical US publisher cash grab re-using as much of the earlier games as possible & not really being anything more than a Fallout 3 DLC & or Total Conversion.

Most of the content is very repetitive. Similar fetch or kill quests.

Locations as well are very samey underground especially there are only a few different type of location with slightly different layouts but the structure is all very similar.

Even for Bethesda this is a new low its so obviously dumbed down & aimed squarely @ PS4/XB1 owners PC is an afterthought release :(

Just going to add my thoughts about the game

I mostly love the game apart from the performance no sli tried all the fix's none work but I found a new one to try tonight changing the dx11 sli bits to batman-ac proflie

At 1080p the game looked realy bad but fps was solid
At 3440x1440 the game looked really good but would get large fps drop at random

Building is frustrating you never seen to be able to build anything realy cool but box's if making a house and I found placing fences around ur settlement a pain if the terrain is not level.
Another thing I didn't like is not being able to remove some buildings I mean for me personally I hated that.

Difficulties wise I find it to easy playing on hard and finding I can one shot most enemies but only 6 hours in.

I am sure I will have more to say after the weekend

Hi loving the game so far just been offered a place with the brotherhood of steel, your thoughts on this.

I was wondering this too, but then when you think about it, if you don't join, you miss out on a bunch of quests. Also likely a bunch of cool gear. I remember joining them in fallout 3 and killing them in NV. Lol. The only thing that feels weird is going from being a general with the minutemen, to being a conscript with the brotherhood.

After exhausting myself with the minutemen, I am about to join them and see how it goes.

So anyone else have issues completing the silver shroud quest?

Hardly dumbed down? There's no point any more, you get nothing except some stupid perk. Removing the skills is the worst thing of all...

At the end of the day the effect is the same, skills or not. Can still make different builds based on stats and perks.

I am really loving this game, but I loved FO3 and NV too. Managed to get SLI and GSYNC working again, and the terminal bug seems to have disappeared for the moment.

Only one crash so far.

Comparisons to Witcher 3 are a bit silly.

That game also has aspects that are far far worse. Loot is generally rubbish(itemisation is woeful), crafting is pretty pants, quests are often pretty tedious, endless amounts of tedious dialogue, there are no dungeons of note, combat is sub par. Enjoyable but the RPG nerds overrate it far far too much. :)

While I don't really agree with you I have had a game refunded on steam with more then 2 hours game play, as long as you can justify it they are normally pretty good.

For example I explained that the games prologue/tutorial was so long that by the time I got to try the actual game it was almost two hours anyway, I then listed a few of the points as to why I felt it was poor. I had about 4 and a 1/2 hours on the clock and got a refund quite quickly.

May not always work as it could depend on how good a day the customer service person is having, but if you really feel that way there is no harm in trying.

After using the config tool posted in here earlier it's now capped my fps and no more terminal issues.

I put around 4 hours in yesterday but spent 2 of those building my base at red rocket, which is now finished so I can crack on with the game :)
