**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

Well you do have the power armour, which helps a tiny bit I suppose. In the video I've seen the guy basically makes sure he's hidden, then uses VATS and blitz to go and get 4 or 5 good hits on the deathclaw, and then just runs off and hides until he's hidden again and then repeats. On his second run (dies just before he kills it on the first), the manages to kill it with a pool cue as apaprently they have about 3m of range! That combined with sneak sorts them out.

I guess, therefore, that you just have to put loads of effort into having the best armour you can get!

I think perhaps they're doing it without guns, instead of melee only, so it's possible to use grenades and other explosives, so you can probably take those guys out from a distance.

Or it could just be a bit of compromise to get through that first mission, then choose your own way afterwards!

Hah I do have an SSD, what's the question?

It's either because of the mods, or the latest patches, or probably both, but my load times have increased a bit. Initial loading the save from the main menu is still nice and quick; probably about 15s without actually timing it. However, if I simply leave a building to go back into the Commonwealth, I'm often greeted with a plain black screen and the little logo in the right corner for sometimes 30s or more.

My CPU is a little dated, but I'm running a decent SSD. I'm looking forward to completing this run through, but it's going to be an awful feeling watching all my settlements reset! :/

I'm still never using power armour, even on very hard difficulty. I just don't like them. They look sort of cool, but the sounds are awful; the animations are awful; the HUD is awful, and they're just very clunky. Now that I've unlocked ballistic weave, I'm not even using armour. Just military fatigues with MkV BW or modified Silver Shroud costume. My armour rating is only about 150 in total (perks add to the base rating) but unless I just stand there and sponge up the bullets, I'm not really ever seriously challenged. Once the next mod/DLC hits with the revised survival mode, I'll start again using that for a real challenge!!

This article is great:

Basically just playing the game with a melee character. I watched a video on Youtube the other day of something similar and it really does look excellent. I think playing the game with a really focused build is probably more interesting that a jack of all trades sort of character that I've ended up with (I've never played Fallout before so this is my first time).

Many A True Nerd does lots of Fallout playthroughs with various rulesets. He is currently doing a Melee only run on Survival difficulty.

Gotta admit this is the DLC I thought was going to be a quick half baked job on the way to the big one but that does have me hyped, even if what we saw in the trailer is all the various customisations then I'll be happy.

we need a mod to give us Bender as a companion with the new robot add-on!

plus in my continued building , I have discovered you can also build on the overpass at Graygarden meaning much more elaborate structrures and living quarters

Re the melee build, this is going quite well but I think the article referenced was a bit optimistic that your character will be OP by Level 15. Many of the second stage perks don't kick in until well after that. I'm also finding it essential to start dumping points into Endurance and Charisma, the former because even with stage 1 Blitz and Rooted if you're in a scrap with 4 or 5 raiders, you need a bit of resilience at close quarters. The latter because so much depends on passing the speech checks (e.g. Atomics Galleria) that L1 CH is pretty much useless. I also had to dump a couple of points into Luck in order to get Idiot Savant which is key to building up your character at this level.

At some stage, points are going to need to go into Gun Nut and Science as well, needed for better defences at settlements. I intend to keep Int at 1 as long as possible to get maximum Savant procs but at some point there are skills which need a higher level before they can be unlocked.

Going to tackle Corvega Assembly later on, which might prove interesting then it will be back to settlement building to squeeze another couple of points.

Although I managed to find a combat knife in Concord, most of the melee weapons detailed in the article (apart from the baseball bat from the seller in Diamond City) probably need a minimum of L10 before questing for them.

However it does provide a nice change especially on my 4th playthrough where things would otherwise be a bit jaded.

I can't say I'm that fussed about this new robot DLC to be honest. Just doesn't seem to fit in with the World; all this fuss about Synths and we're expected to believe this robot mastermind has been busy making another robot army and we're just noticing it now?

robots are not synths though, we are led to believe to the synths become sentient or self aware

the robots are just tools so nobody has ever questioned their appearance or usefulness

Fallout 4 dlc - where?

I didn't buy the cheap season pass as I usually get bored with a game after playing it first time through. At best I will buy the 1st dlc.
So, where on earth do I find Fallout 4 Automotron dlc on its own?
Andi.

Worth noting that the 'main' DLC is the Far Harbor one due for release later in the year (RRP £19.99). The Automatron and workshop ones are smaller (£7.99 and £3.99 respectively).
