**** Official Fallout 76 Thread ****

Well i must say, the game is certainly seeming more and more appealing the more you talk about it, I like the idea that people are helping each other, kinda how you would in those events.

Usually. If you look at Bethesda's forums, you'll get a very different picture. Lots of complaints about how everyone (apart from the poster, of course) is a selfish git who ruins everything. One of the most common complaints is that "high level players" (by which, of course, the poster means "players of a higher level than me") ruin all the events by doing too much and too little. And no, I am not joking. The complaining is that unreasonable.

There is a particular obsession with "legendary" mobs that spawn during an event. "Legendary" mobs are almost all extremely mundane and very minor mobs and they're very common, i.e. not at all legendary in any way. They drop an enchanted weapon or an enchanted piece of armour. Which are also called "legendary" and are also almost all extremely mundane and very common, i.e. not at all legendary in any way. But the prevailing fetishistic obsession is to regard these "legendary" mobs as being the most important thing in the game, more important than the events in which they spawn, so important that it's better to let the event fail so no-one gets a reward for the event while dealing with the trivial "legendary" mob in the way that the poster demands. Even when the event reward is a "legendary" item that's better than the "legendary" item dropped by the "legendary" mob. And no, I am not exaggerating about that either. There were numerous threads of ranting fury about the megasloth in the annual Fasnacht event a few weeks ago. It was an utterly trivial low-level "legendary" mob that spawned as part of the final wave of mobs attacking the robots that players have to protect as the goal of the event. It always dropped a random low level enchanted item with a single enchantment on it. The event reward, which required killing all of that wave of attacking mobs, always included at least one random maximum level (levelled to the player getting it, up to the maximum item level) enchanted item with 1-3 enchantments on it, in addition to the other event rewards. And numerous players were demanding that everyone obsess on the sloth and gently poke it to make sure that every player there can gently poke it and wait until everyone is sure that everyone has gently poked the sloth so that when it dies everyone will get the crap enchanted item it drops. Meanwhile, the other mobs in the wave are attacking the robots, so the event can fail.

In reality, it's even common custom to do that as long as the event isn't put at risk by it. For example, there's an event called "Uranium Fever" in which mining machinery is activated by a player and runs for about 7 minutes, collecting uranium ore. Waves of mobs spawn, attacking the mining machinery. Players must kill the mobs to protect the 3 mining machines in different parts of a small sub-area of the mine. If the mining machines are broken by the mobs, a player can repair them. It's either impossible or close to impossible for the event to fail (it might fail if all 3 machines are broken simultaneously, but I've never seen that happen so I don't know for sure) and the event has a fixed duration so it can't be finished quickly or dragged out. During the event, 3 "legendary" mobs will be spawned as part of the waves of mobs, one at a time. Usually, people will gently poke the "legendary" mob and emote a "come here" gesture to let other players in the event know where the "legendary" mob has spawned so they can come over and gently poke the mob. I frequently see players standing there, letting the "legendary" mob repeatedly hit/shoot them while every other player in the event comes over to gently poke the mob. Or walking towards other players while the "legendary" mob follows, hitting them from behind, to lead the "legendary" mob to other players so they can gently poke it. I've done all those things myself, many times. I have a L1 low quality very slow melee weapon (my character is set up for heavy guns and is thus almost useless in melee) that I carry at all times and have on my favourites list so I can switch to it in order to ensure I do extremely low damage. In that event, it doesn't matter that the other mobs in the wave are busy wrecking the machines while everyone ignores the event and focuses solely on the "legendary" mob. Sure, there are a few players who use their usual weapons to instakill everything in sight. But not many. Not when there's no pressure and the event can't be completed any faster by doing so. At least, not on PC. Maybe it's different on console. Maybe it isn't.

The playerbase on FO76 is generally nice enough to cause me to consider buying a microphone and using voice chat. Which says a lot as I have never used voice chat in a game because I don't want to deal with the fuss and bother of any interaction with people being ********* about a game.

EDIT: A couple of random examples.

I'm currently playing an alt. I started a new character solely to complete certain challenges that can only be done by a new character or which are far easier to do with a new character. But I found that I enjoyed playing a new character, starting again from level 1. Of course, when I'm playing my alt, to other players I appear to be a new player.

Shortly after I first ventured outside the newbie zone, with my crappy leather armour and my crappy guns, I bumped into a big mob that was higher level than me. The Grafton Monster. Not very dangerous usually, but it is for a player who's low level and badly equipped. Good, a challenge! So I had a hard fight that took several minutes, most of the ammunition I had for my crappy rifle and most of the ammunition I had for my crappy pistol. Low level players usually have a shortage of ammo and a big mob takes a lot of shots from an unskilled character with crappy guns. A much higher level player with far better equipment happened to be nearby and came over to see what was going on with all the shooting. And did nothing apart from watch, seeing if I needed help. When I killed it on my own, they gave me the thumbs up emote and left.

A bit later, I was venturing way out of my league for a quest and got swarmed by some cave crickets. They're fast moving and hard to kill, so I was way outclassed with my crappy armour, crappy weapons and crappy skills. I jumped onto a rock and did what I could, but crickets can jump too. A much higher level player with much better equipment happened to be nearby and came over to see what was going on with all the shooting. Deciding (correctly) that I was way outclassed, they slaughtered the crickets attacking me. I have them the heart emote, they gave me the thumbs up emote and left.

First few hours of this felt like a grind and I thought I was gonna get bored but actually a few more hours in it's pretty fun. It is a very slow grind tho and I find my self unable to play more than about 2hrs tops before I need a break.

I honestly love this, i'm not gonna lie i feel like you solely have convinced me to play the game, I'm sure my friend will finally be happy haha. I will however finish a few on my SP games that i need to tick off my list but i'm for sure going to play the game and from what you've said, enjoy it too!

Finally reached level 100 in the Season Pass # 1 last night :p what a grind  :( I got to level 56 naturally just from playing a lot for 2 weeks then used my existing Atoms to buy the last 44 or so levels as there is no way on earth I am playing for another 6-7 weeks to grind the remaining score out

Even with the double XP (which makes little difference tbh to progress in the season  ) & the upcoming double score event next week it will still take many weeks to grind it all out as the rank progress requirement starts to become so vast you only have just about enough if you get all challenges done everyday & grind another 2-3 hours out increasing XP to progress towards the next rank (even with double!). I just do not have the motivation to keep grinding for so many weeks as its really tedious after a bit to see the XP requirement go up 25 each rank this starts to become very tiring after level 50 you only just have enough to get the next rank with the daily challenges. Bethesda did their maths very well on this its certainly going to force some players to want to buy Atoms to progress at some time near the end  especially once the 9 challenges a day goes away in 3 days! The amount of time you will need to sink into this become 3-4 hours then with the NW challenges up to 6-8 hours per day its just too much overall of a grind :(

Good luck to everyone still doing this! the final level 100 rewards are typical Bethesda as well  Fallout 4 Creation Club Captain Cosmos reskins (white & black), 500 Atoms, Planetarium Globe, Rocketeer style Captain Cosmos Jetpack skin, Captain Cosmos Scoreboard. That's it :eek:

So you wasted all your atom points buying some crap you don't want, knowing in advance what it was and that you didn't want it. All because you had to have "Level 100" now. What are you going to do next time, now you've wasted all your atoms? If you carry on as you are, you'll spend a fair bit of real money buying atoms to buy the next "Level 100". For more crap you don't want. Solely because you're addicted to...what, exactly? Addicted to doing whatever Bethesda put in the game and doing it in the most unhealthy way possible? If you think something in a game is a grind that requires 6-8 hours a day don't do it. You will not die IRL if you don't reach "level 100" in an event in a game. Nothing will happen other than you won't get the ingame items which you obviously never wanted. Spending 6-8 hours a day in a game doing something you dislike solely because you feel that you must do it is addiction. And you don't even get high from it. Just stressed and suffering.

It's not the maths that Bethesda did very well. It's the psychological manipulation to promote addiction and suffering in order to gain profit from it. And they will gain profit from it. If you can't break your addiction you will be spending real world money on the next season of the legendary grind because once again you will feel required to get to "Level 100" as soon as possible and you've already wasted the ingame currency you had on doing that in this season.

For anyone else who is playing or might be playing: Don't follow AWPC's example. It isn't mandatory. It only appears to be mandatory to them because of their addiction.

I'll use myself as a counter-example. I haven't done any grinding at all in this event. Not a single second of grinding. No, wait, that's not completely true. I did find scoring 25 critical hits on enemies to be a bit of a grind because I was playing my main at the time and they don't use VATS (the ingame aimbot) which means they don't get critical hits as those only occur when using VATS. So I had to make a point of using VATS until I got 25 critical hits and that was a grind to me. For a few minutes here and there as I was playing. Other than that, no grinding at all. I've done absolutely nothing to increase the rate at which I gain XP, which is the main means of grinding for more points in the season pass event. Some players are joining teams for bonus XP, grinding for lots of ingredients for making the various different potions of XP gain increase in the game so they can grind for XP more quickly, changing their build to make their character more intelligent to get more XP...every possible way to get more XP. Some players are getting well over double the XP I'd get for killing the same mob. I've even been playing a new character for almost all of the "season" so far, which means I'm getting XP points at a far lower rate as I'm far less powerful and killing far less powerful mobs (worth far less XP) and taking far more time to do it.

With that approach, doing no grinding and doing pretty much the complete opposite of what's needed to gain XP as quickly as possible, I have reached a level on the season pass thing. What level? I'm not sure. Because it's of no importance whatsoever. I've looked at the event rewards for all of the levels and there's only two things I wanted from the whole thing. The ammunition convertor, which you get at level 4 on the season event and will therefore get if you play at all, and a skin for a gun I use, which you get at level 94. That's it. The ammunition converter has a user interface so amazingly badly designed that it's effectively unusable. It's worth having as an example of just how bad a truly terrible UI can be. The skin for the gun is a trivial thing that I want only very slightly, so I don't mind if I don't get it.

So I had a think because it seemed to be of some relevance to this post. I'm at level 41 on the season pass thing. After 2 weeks of a 10 week season. Without any grinding. I remember seeing the "level increase" popup yesterday. showing L41. So in terms of points, I'm probably between a quarter and a third of the way along (not 41.x % along because the point requirements go up a little bit per level). A quarter to a third of the way along after a fifth of the season. So I'll probably reach level 100 by the end of the season. Without any grinding. Especially since there will be days when players get double points for the season thing.

You guys are yin and yang, i'm a bit more in between. I usually play in a casual style and if i see something i like i will grind for it if needed. Currently level 70 on the seaon pass with no atoms spent so on course to finish without spending anything.

What level was your character when you started it though? Mine was level 560 it takes FOREVER to level up at that stage

When i started i was around 270, so wasn't to bad to level once per day. Think they need to change the level up challenge as that varies to much for the playerbase.

Once you get to 400+ it takes about a week of natural play to go up 1 level  so to get all the score challenges completed daily takes a LOT of effort ;)

Fallout 76 what an immense frustration simulator this is :eek: Finally decided to go for Secret Service Jet Pack as fed up with the constant Fusion Core drain on Power Armour (even some weapons seem to drain it as well not just Gatling Lasers! but Gauss seems to drain it a bit). So much better running a Secret Service build (apart from RAD DMG) as no need to waste storage space on Fusion Cores or hopping in & out of PA frames all the time. Takes so long to get a decent SS set of pieces you waste a good 30-40 LEG modules until you find the set you want then have to scrip the rest as they cannot be traded or sold or even dropped (it breaks them bizarrely!).

SS carry weight can go as high as 481 for me vs 535 max on PA frames now but well over 500 is also possible if you do not want the Jet Pack. Makes the grind to get PA CAL shocks seem so futile when you just need to spend some time grinding Gold bullion instead!

Swapped over to my Game Pass version on another totally different Bethesda account linked to my Xbox 1X as there is nothing left for me to do until Season 2 arrives. Found yet another shocking bug almost all Atoms you earn ingame do not get properly allocated to your account so you lose them & right now Bethesda have no comment other than they are looking into it and say it might be a visual display bug where you have them on your account but cannot spend them at all as it keeps reverting back to a lower amount :mad: this also affects the Steam version it seems a lot of people are reporting this after they fixed the S.C.O.R.E challenges issues it broke Atoms it seems so stick with the Bethesda launcher version if you do not want to have to lose Atoms until or if they fix it perhaps its by design to bike more money out of long suffering players :o

Why have you given yourself such torment, the game is a joke....

Not quite a futile as it seems because SS armour is much heavier than PA so you have less spare carry weight. Not that it matters - I have a carry weight of 435 on my main and that's ample. Where magic armour can really shine regarding what you can carry is when it comes with an enchantment to reduce the weight of things. That can save you a perk card point or two. But I'd reached the stage on my main where there was so little I wanted that I was only looting stuff with acid or lead in it. Sometimes I didn't bother looting at all apart from "legendaries". Which are also pointless to my main. They have ~200 spare legendary modules and nothing to make with them, so they don't even need scrip.

PA also has much better protection than unpowered armour. The numbers Bethesda allows you to see are a cake lie. PA applies a hidden 42% damage reduction first, then applies the stated damage resistance. That's important. Due to the way the game works, damage reduction is much more effective than damage resistance. The hidden damage reduction is even higher for radiation - 90%. Which is why radiation anywhere other than Emmet disposal site tunnels is irrelevant when in PA.

I wander around with 50-60 fusion cores and Batteries Included 3. Works well enough as long as I don't use VATS. VATS is broken for PA users because of the fusion core drain. But it's not a big deal for a full auto heavy weapons build as they couldn't make much use of VATS anyway. If I ever drop below 40 fusion cores I might teleport around buying them from player vending machines. It's not like I've got anything else to spend my caps on, apart from Smiley. Or maybe not - I have ~3500 bullion and nothing to spend it on and the cap is 5000.

It's alleged (on Reddit) that the atoms you get from challenges go to your Bethesda version of the game even if you were playing on Steam. Malice or incompetence? With Bethesda, you never know which it is.

You don't seem to be enjoying the game. Maybe finding another game to play would be more enjoyable for you. I'm still playing because I started an alt and am having fun with them. I've even gone back to wrestling with the utterly abysmal camp building system again. My alt has a mansion (by FO76 standards) in the mountains, built around an acid extractor. No vending, no displays, no "get stuff free here" signs, so I have a lot more spare budget for structure.

With Bethesda, you never know which it is. Does not surprise me they seem to have fixed it right now but you never know for how long! They are so unprofessional not testing these critical systems properly & you can be certain anything which affects them in a negative way Atoms wise gets removed instantly!

I am not enjoying it at times but I also reached my own end game quite literally! I have almost every single plan, beat Season 1 early (as I simply did not want to grind that anymore).

I only play on my alt on Game Pass most of the time now but plan to spend some time building a new house somewhere nice & flat (if I can find it!) then use all the Atomic Shop content I have amassed & build around the new Red Rocket Garage modules as you can fit 3 of those in as well as 3 x Red Rocket Giant Signs & lots of other camp content as long as you do not bother with any defences!

My alt's house in a remote location appears to have no spawn points anywhere within range. I spend ages there trying to get power conduits to work properly. I failed and decided they looked ugly anyway and went back to stringing wires. But the relevant point is that I was at my camp for so long that I went from full to red-bar hungry three times. No attacks on my camp. The camp items are still undamaged, so it seems there haven't been any attacks while I was away doing quests. I didn't have any defences. I put a few turrets up last night for aesthetics, but I think they're completely unnecessary.

But it's not flat. It looked flat enough, but it isn't. The building is very large. 7x6 IIRC. One end is at ground level (with one corner underground) and the other end is suspended in midair. But I'm going to ignore that. I'd prefer to do a split level thing, but FO76's abysmal building system won't allow for that. In my modded FO4 I'd just lower the foundation blocks at one end by enough to snap a half-height wall to them and then build as normal from there. At the very least I'd snap other concrete blocks into the gap under the foundation blocks so they weren't suspended in the air. But FO76 is still defective in so many ways.

I wonder if I could remove the blocks at that end, snap a stair to the side of a block and snap a block to the bottom of the stair. That might work.

Maybe I'll change it from a two storey building with the upper floor being two big bedrooms into a single storey building covering the entire build area. An area with higher ceilings would be fitting for a workshop.

@Angilion
Yeah the building system is something else! I bought the new nice looking wooden plank floor skin yesterday from my remaining atoms. To apply it to all my floor pieces means I have to remove & replace items placed on top! Some do not need this if you replace the existing piece but most require lengthy time consuming replacing & as always it does not even let you do it despite it previously sitting in the exact same space time-coordinate

Not sure I can find any flat land to place my camp. My current location near to west tek never ever gets attacked anymore so its good for that but I was never happy with it as I had to compromise heavily on symmetry just to place items so I really need to find the promised land ;)

Had my first jog around for 2 weeks this morning, had about 10 Pleasant Valley Tickets so turned them in at the bot and he dropped me the below Shotgun. I didn't even know this existed and its totally useless to me but I guess its a nice unique weapon at least.

There's a fancy single action revolver from there too. I've got that, but I haven't got the fancy shotgun.
