**** Official Fallout 76 Thread ****

Good interview this bit is revealing:
" GC: Yes it does. Well that’s great to hear. I assume Fallout 76 is the most games as a servicey of the two, so how long do you envisage that lasting?
PH: Forever.
GC: Forever?
PH: I’m not being ironic. Like, forever. Because other people have said, ‘Is your timeline two years or five years?’ And I said, ‘Well, they’re still playing Morrowind and you go online and look at how many people are playing Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Those games have been out for four and seven years, and there are literally hundreds of thousands of people playing those games every single day, every single month.
So Fallout 76, our timeline is in perpetuity. Now what that content is gonna be, and what that’s gonna look like, I’m not sure. Part of our thing is we need to get people in the game and see how they respond. We’ve even taken this approach for past DLC. I don’t know if you remember Fallout 3? The big consumer reaction when we launched that game was that they were all upset that it had an ending. And we were like, ‘All the previous games had an ending! We thought we were sticking to what that franchise is…’ But they didn’t want an ending and we had a couple of DLCs in the works but the third one we did we were like, ‘Well, we need a DLC that removes the ending of the game and allows you to continue on’.
So 76 is going to be like that. We have some ideas for this and that, but let’s see what people want more of. Let’s see what they respond to and support that."

"GC: So both those games are going to have substantial microtransactions? I assume neither are going to have loot boxes?

PH: Fallout 76 does not, it’s just a store where you can buy cosmetics if you want."

So it looks like 76 is the ONLY Fallout project until Fallout 5 (which is many years away!). Pete Hines also confirmed all the DLC is Cosmetic only any new content is free for all. I am struggling to understand how Bethesda intend to make a profit on this as I notice the price has dropped sharply to only £29.99 on cdkeys right now which seems cheap when its 4 x the Fallout 4 map size something does not add up!

This is gonna be the GTA:V of the Fallout series. I doubt there ever will be a Fallout 5 if they perpetuate this in the same way.

Is having to pay to Beta test a game, the norm now?

Beta progress goes into the final game.
The Beta is to stress test the servers under load so they can fix any issues before it goes live.
so anything you do during the beta will be there when it launches....
I would call this pre-live playing :)

Overall this was a good step for fallout series, single player is fine but adding multiplayer allows for a different dynamic and frankly its more fun chatting with a buddy than the npc.

If anyone wants to try the game without actually buying it or preordering CD keys are selling beta codes for 4 quid. Bought one today and got my code because I'm unsure about the game but would like to give the beta a go over the two week period to see what it's all about.

@ Tom|Nbk Thanks for the headsup on the beta code. The thing is its not even a proper beta you get a limited window to test the game. Bethesda are only allowing players to test it for small amounts of time so its very suspicious as if they do not want players on the servers for long. 45Gb beta download and no preload on it either at this stage plus 1 week after the Xbox 1 Beta so I will look out to see how that goes first.

I fear however this turns out @ launch its the only new Fallout title for many years to come sadly.

I have a feeling this game won't flop, despite the majority of the Fallout fans hating the concept of this online version. Console has never really had an openworld survival game, like Rust or Dayz etc. So I think a lot of console players will lap this up, like they did with Fortnite when they finally got a BR game on console. I just hope they don't take this as a sign that this is the direction Fallout needed to go, as I think such a game would have done well on console without the Fallout IP attached.

Seems solid on all fronts as far.
I don't play a lot of games and F76 has my interest peeked even though I am not a fallout fan.
its like the Hobbit, going on an adventure in the landscape of the dead

Thanks for telling us - I bought one,so at least I can give it a try.

I'm with you even as a huge Fallout fan. 2 bit worry me though.

1: The reason that Fallout 3, NV and 4 still live on today is modding. Most of the bugs have been ironed out by the community and you can basically spin the games any way you want with a mod. That obviously wont be an option with FO76 so I guess we'll have to see what bugs are going to rear their head and how quickly Bethesda fix them.
2: The Grind, I hate being forced to grind in games and immediately turn off to anything where I have to constantly do the same thing over and over just in order to progress. I have a feeling that this game will be riddled with grind but hope I'm wrong.

I though Todd had mentioned that they were going to allow modded gameplay? I hope they stick to that because modded servers will be what keeps this going, just like minecraft for me :-)

76 is just the Fallout 4 MP component which they never finished back in 2015

A whole new map 4 times as big, with at least 6 distinct biomes. New game mechanics and updated graphics.
Totally not just the multiplayer element they considered for F4. It would simply be a DLC mode for F4 if it was that.

I can't understand why people complain about another game launcher. I have icons on my desktop for all my games, I don't care what launcher they start up. I close whatever launcher down through the desktop tray when I've finished - what different icon it is makes no difference.

He was skirting around the question and never really went into detail about it. What I think he means is they will allow their own paid mods, which will be nothing more than skins if FO4 is anything to go by. I doubt they will ever let us have custom servers that are modded with out own mods.

It's a shame as it looks like it could actually look pretty decent with some high res textures and better lighting/weather effects etc.

It's not just about having another icon on a desktop.. I don't even use icons lol. For me it's about losing my friends list on Steam and as sad as it is I like all my game achievements in one place. I also use Steams overlay a lot in games to chat, or browse the net, not sure if you can still do this with other launchers.

That is Bethesda own words though not mine! 76 is the unfinished MP from Fallout 4 which was stopped in development to finish the SP. Now its evolved into a hybrid game which is trying to be Solo, Co-Op & MP to keep the Fallout player base happy until or if they ever get around to Fallout 5.

PC Gamer posted a lot of info from the Xbox 1 event last week.
