**** Official Fallout 76 Thread ****

Not possible to break quests when you quit to the main menu next time you join a server it resets the quests which are unfinished but retains progress to date if it checkpointed before you quit. I believe so they can wait until you reach higher lvls. That's is what has happened to me several times I parked the quest until I reached the high lvl to complete it!

That's good news. I know what the quest reward for that side quest is and I'll only be throwing it away anyway, but I like to do everything in Fallout games.

As for Power Armour weight when you add all the pieces for arms, legs, helmet & torso its more like 80lb so quite a saving to use those perks I mentioned ;) ONLY the power armour chassis weights 10lb when you store in your inventory the individual pieces weigh close to 100lb!!

Power armour pieces on a chassis weigh 0, apparently. They certainly show a weight of zero when you look at them at a workbench and they seem to add nothing to my carried weight.

At one point I was carrying 18 pieces of power armour in my inventory, 4 chassis and 12 fusion cores for some silly amount of weight.

I re-organised with an almost complete set of T45 on one chassis, a partial set of T51 on the second chassis, a single piece of T60 on the third chassis and the 4th chassis empty. I also put all bar 1 fusion cores in the fusion core storage of the chassis with T45 on it. I scrapped the surplus T45 pieces.

Total shown weight 43lbs - 10lb for each chassis and 3lbs for the spare fusion core. The power armour pieces and the 11 other fusion cores show no apparent weight at all.

Charisma perks are ONLY of use if you play in teams otherwise if solo you get minimal benefits apart from Lone Wanderer that is ;)

Yes, but Lone Wanderer is very useful when playing solo.

Trust me Power Armour when fully specced up is godlike :D

Trust me, that has no effect at all on the drawbacks I mentioned that are the reason why I would prefer not to use power armour. You can read them if you like - they're in the post you replied to with something completely irrelevant. I know power armour is pretty much essential after the early stages of the game - I explicitly stated that.

Also...how do you learn to make power armour or power armour mods? As far as I can tell, you can't learn anything from scrapping power armour parts (unlike other armour). I know you can learn to craft excavator power armour, but I've seen no evidence you can learn anything else other than the existence of the power smith perk (and that doesn't imply you can learn to craft power armour mods).

Now it's time for me to follow the country roads and find a T45 left leg.

You find plans to make power armour it takes a long time though! Another massive power armour advantage is you can fall from any height & not take any damage whatsoever ;)

One of the first things I did after reaching L25 and switching to power armour was to find a high cliff to jump off :)

How about mods for power armour? You learn mods (and also how to craft the item itself) for weapons and other armour by scrapping it (which makes some sense - you can learn about an item by dissassembling it). That doesn't seem to be the case for power armour.

I quite like the plan and recipe system, but I think it has a serious usability drawback in that you can't tag unknown plans or recipes. I'd rather not buy or loot plans or recipes I already know.

EDIT: I've found something that makes power armour (and therefore the whole of FO76) close to unplayable for me - light. I don't find it fun to poke around in the dark with a feeble helmet-mounted torch illuminating a tiny section of the world in front of me. It's a massive step down from the pipboy light, which seems to be unusable in power armour. Am I missing something here? What I want is the pipboy light while in power armour. I'm wearing a nuclear-powered personal tank and the light on it is vastly inferior to a portable computer. That makes no sense at all.

You can't saying your producing a historically accurate shooter, then have a female British front line soldier with warpaint on, with a prosthetic arm from 2018, armed with a cricket bat with barbed wire wrapped round it and not expect complaints...

How many SJW's are going to play BFV anyway?

That's not even the worst they did, they re-wrote the whole sabotage of heavy water plants in Vemok, Norway to remove the Norwegian commandos who actually went on the raid to replace them with a mother and her super soldier daughter. Patrick Soderland said if you don't like it, don't buy it, so I haven't.

I've messaged my usual contact for Threezero in the UK, PM me if you need it. I would have thought they would have done something special for maybe the last release in this range. Like the Gatling laser or missile launcher?

Would be nice if Threezero did a weapons pack or something with all the missing weapons to go display with them.

They're released a picture of all the models including a blue/yellow X-01 which I'm hoping will come with something special.

and so the ballistic fibre grind begins :D

Have you guys found any good places to farm ballistic fibers? I found a few in Camp McClintock but not enough really.

There's another pipboy view available whilst using power armour. Next time you open pipboy I think its 'v' to change the view.

Thanks for that - I'll try it when I play again. Although the amber colour does serve as a nostalgic reminder of the days when I was using a VT100 terminal to access a VAX mainframe :)

Is there anything I can do about the light? I'd be happy with being able to use the pipboy light while in power armour. The feeble helmet torch is utter rubbish in comparison and puts me off the game entirely. A lot of FO76 is very dark and a very directional torch that lights (or glares out) a very small area and leaves everywhere else pitch black is blighting my enjoyment of the game.

There are some power armour mods you have to learn the perks for it up to lvl3 I think then they start to appear.

Another cool thing about Power Armour is that you can repair it up to 200% so its even stronger & lasts forever with the perks I mentioned yesterday!!

Are you sure? For everything else a mod might require perks to be used but the mod can be learnt at any time.

The light is the bigger problem for me now. That's a deal-breaker. If it's not fixable, I'll probably end up not playing any more. If it's a choice between getting battered without power armour or stumbling around in the near total darkness with it, I'll probably choose to play a less irritating game.

Not 100% sure as yesterday I had to drop my lvl49 Power Armour & it broke taking all my inventory mods stored with it

Light looks fine to me if anything the game world is too bright all the time you sure its not something else?

Yes, I am sure. Perhaps you don't go out at night and don't enter unlit buildings and don't enter mines. Places without light are very dark and there are a lot of places without light in FO76. It can be too bright outside in bright sunlight, but I'm not always outdoors and it's not always bright sunlight.

You seem to be replying to a question about overall light levels that I didn't ask. That could be a matter of brightness settings on the game, drivers or monitor. Perhaps that's why you think it's too bright all the time (in addition to you never going out at night and never entering unlit areas).

My issue is about light sources. The pip-boy light generates bright omnidirectional light, illuminating the area around you effectively (sometimes too effectively and by default with a greenish tinge). The power armour headlamp generates very dim very directional light, illuminating a small cone for a short distance directly in front of it and nothing else. It's not some quirk of my settings. I've watched Oxhorn playing and it's exactly the same for him. Only he doesn't seem to mind. I do. What I want is the pip-boy light available in power armour.

I don't use PA but the guy I'm playing with does and it is just the torch light on the PA and nothing else. As far as I'm aware there aren't any mods you can do to improve it and I have to agree compared to the Pip Boy it is a **** poor light source.

Not sure about the light, i'm not quire a regular user of power armour yet, so don't know what mods etc are available.

How do you get by without using power armour? The difference in protection between power armour and other armour is extreme - even T45 gives better ballistic and energy resistance than the best non-power armour, plus it gives vastly more radiation resistance (non-power armour gives none without mods) and it protects against diseases and it weighs far less and it increases carrying capacity.

I found a mix of L20 modded leather and metal armour, fine in the Forest area (and that was better than the standard combat armour I could make). But when I went to the Toxic Valley area it was nowhere near enough. It's not like 3/NV/4, where combat armour was a viable alternative to power armour.

You might be able to find an in-game mod for a brighter headlamp or a different colour headlamp. That's it in the game and neither do anything to solve the problem. The brighter headlamp just glares out that tiny area, which is of dubious value.

I realise that Bethesda enjoy using nonsensical gameplay mechanics (a portable computer with a vastly better torch than a nuclear powered personal tank!) to annoy their customers, but this is going too far for me. In previous games I could mod Bethesda's annoyances away, but players are stuck with them in FO76.

I've searched online for a workaround but can't find one other than mods for previous Fallout games.
