Seems square have announded at their pre release party that most things anybody complained about in the beta has been fixed.

Well like everyone said. Content was missing and SE has known about this and had a remedy in place all along. But hey, it's so much easier to whine, complain and scream about things rather than be patient.

Feedback is positive as well as it shows SE will listen to it's players and implement things they suggest. UI and mouse updates were expected and takes away peoples biggest whine.

Even more hyped about the game now :D

ive just been playing it, started in a new area and am really enjoying it i really dident like limsa lomisa (spelling) but really enjoying the forest area, even more hyped now that hopefully things will be fixed eg the annoying mouse :P tyvm for the info

I've been on the fence about this one. Love FF, want a new MMO. My main concern is how well this game is going to run at 1920x1200 on a 5770 and 2.5ghz quad. The benchmark ran OK, but of course isn't actual game play in a busy city or anything.

A few YouTube videos imply that it will run on high at 720p, but with frames dipping down to 15 at times. I'm dubious as to how well this will run at 1920x1200, don't wanna have to nerf the settings on what looks like a beautiful game.

weill i have a i7 860, 4gb of ram and a 4870x2 gfx card, and run the game at 1920x1080 but with everything ingame turend off and most things set to low and it is playable bit stutery at times tho. hopefully if i like it ill be getting a gtx480 or sumat :)

With my specs (see sig) I run the game with these settings:

1680x1050: fullscreen
Buffer size: resolution
Shadow Detail: Highest
Multisampling: 16xQ CSAA
Texture Quality: Highest
Texture filtering: Highest
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Depth of Field: OFF

The game runs smoothly and perfectly playable. Occasionally, especially straight after patching, the game will stutter in some areas, however I think its a maintenance/connection thing rather than performance because it disappears after a short while.

EDIT:

Also, I noticed that once I turned off driver level AA (application controlled), the game sped-up considerably. I only use the config multisampling settings and they work fine on max. I do use 8x AF however and I noticed no performance hit.

I am about to look at a new CPU and Graphics Card for Final Fantasy XIV to replace my current Core2Duo E4300 and ATI 5670. I am looking at a i5 760 + GTX460 1Gb combination but was wondering if anyone know if XIV supports more than two CPU Cores (and thus if an i3 would perform the same, or it could use all 6 Cores on say a Phenom II 1055T)?

Thanks!

Well duh, thats so obvious i can't believe you felt the need to point it out. Who would play a beta till end game? In traditional mmorpg terms they only need to put in a couple of zones levels 10-30 ish and thats all. .

Yes, and No. An Open beta is testing en-mass, for free. You are not the one getting a good deal out of it, the company producing the software is. In this day and age Open Beta is also a way of creating hype. If you release good code, people will play it, and more people will buy it at release. By releasing abysmal code, you are shooting yourself in the foot, putting off potential clients. I can think of countless games i have purchased because beta was good. This game can shove off.

It was only WoW that used Beta as a way of creating hype and PR.

Even the phrase beta testing means testing to identify bug fixes and optimisation.

Square Enix are very much of this thinking. The Japanese 'hive' mentality of working for the greater good is at odds with what Westerners have come to expect from open beta.

As for the 10% content being used in beta that doesn't just mean in areas and levels that you cannot enter in beta. It means that there will be additional content in the areas you presently have access to.

Glad to hear there will be hardware mouse in for release next week. And much quicker cooldown on Guildleves too.

Argh, I want to buy it desperately but I'm kinda worried, the beta would not work for me no matter what I tried.

The game itself would run i'm certain, but I was having connection issues. The patcher would not start no matter what :(

Seriously, no. It's only WoW that has gone on to take a hold of a non-gamer market that nobody else realised was even there.

Fan boys will defend there position without thought or logic. I am a consumer, simple as that. Treat me right and i am sold. In fact, i have been looking for a new mmorpg to play with my other half so i am actually 2 consumers. After this beta, no thanks, i will wait. KOTOR is looking pretty hot.

Yeah I never even knew about this myself until I met someone at a lan who was in my guild for wow many years back and I asked him at the time, do you play any other games?

"No"

Nothing else, never has before, nothing after, just wow at that was it, I was amazed that someone who could get hooked in to one game wouldn't see what else was out there or not have the interest :o

"I am delighted to let you know that your Preorder for Final Fantasy XIV Collector's Edition (with Onion Helm Preorder Bonus) is now being processed... The order will be despatched by your chosen delivery method in time to reach you for the day of release."

:)

It also seems SE will be using the same peer-to-peer system for updates in the final release (taken from a post on ffxicore):

"I understand your problem and can relate to the issue of the fair-usage policy being broken. However I'm afraid to say the final version of the game will be using a peer-to-peer system identical to the one in the Beta. The main game will ship on a disc so it won't be necessary to download the initial 22GB (approx.) client. That said, patches which could be large will be distributed this way so although they will be smaller and less frequent they may still take you over the fair-usage limit. I'm sorry about this and there are no plans to allow users to adjust their upload and download rates but we have made our head-office aware that this is causing problems for people and may be fixed in future.

Again I hope you aren't too put off by this and I hope the patches will be small enough and infrequent enough not to break your limit."

Ahhh damn, the peer to peer system sucks. AoC's updater is a shining example on how it should be; with it's 2GB patches sometimes, but fully utilizies your connection speed.

I haven't disagreed with anything you've said. My points were :

1. Since WoW Western players assume betas are a presentation of a finished product. We/they see them as a chance to get a foot up, gain advantage for release, play for free.

2. Japanese developers don't see this. They presume a 'beta test' is what it says on the tin. Bug finding, optimisation, a chance to take metrics etc

For instance, in the instructions that come with the game it says that the beta client runs like **** and will be full of lag because they are running a huge amount of test code in the background.

But Westerners don't read instructions. They prefer to just dive into a game and learn by experience. So most who complain about lag, particularly with the UI, aren't aware of this.

There are numerous valid complaints, but I can guarantee the client will be different at release. They (SE) have consistently said judge us at release, not on alpha/beta.

One thing that was a deal breaker for me was software mouse so I'm stoked that hardware mouse will be in at release. Also want to see what the timers on guildleves will be reduced to.

As for WoW it did well at release, but it was after release that the market and it's customer base grew virally. (I was in beta, as an aside I was the first lvl 60 on Terenas and possibly the first lvl 60 in Europe). And it was the Far East that saw it really grow. China alone accounts for over half its customer base.

The point is it wasn't the beta that garnered the 'non gamer' market.

I'm headed to Cornelia in release with the linkshell I'm in, did notice a post on ffxivcore saying that some OcUK were also going cornelia?

couple more days!

For people with the Collectors, Have you set up your subscription yet? if so does it charge you now, or is the manual telling the truth saying you wont be billed until after your 30 day trial?

Reason I ask is I have no money in my account yet, and dont want it taking what i dont have..

You get 30 days free with the game, you'll be asked for your card number when you set up, but it won't be charged until your free month's up.

At least that's the way it is with every single subscription mmo I've ever played. And I've played too many :p
