Can I only play now if I buy online or can I pick the collectors edition up in a games shop some where?

to get fullscreen u just need to go in ffXIV config file go onto ur start menu its same place as ur ffxiv game load that up and change settings/fullscreen
Tried that. Its just flashes up a load of Japeneese symbols at me to which I can only click "ok" then it goes off again
make sure youre not running the game at the same time, I had the same problem as you, when i closed the game and opened config it worked fine

Click on the dropdown about a third of the way down the program and choose "english". that should fix it. Squeenix and their "let's default everything to a language other than the territory we're releaseing this box in" theory of linguistic world domination.
I second this.
Find it somewhat frustrating that I now have to either a) take a 36 hour rest from the game before being able to level or b) grind like mad to level.
Can see sense to their system and at higher levels will be a useful regulator of my playtime but at the moment when I am wanting to get really stuck into the game.
Going to go whine on official forums in hope of a better recipe system for levelling profs. I can understand the way they have done things but it's somewhat ridiculous to have to log onto websites to check recipes. It's either that or have an encyclopedic knowledge of everything
also at anytime do you get decent quest rewards or am I going to have to buy myself a decent axe for my rauder somewhere else?

I got a shield today as a reward for one of the leve quests (although not much use for me).
Im having to grind now, my marauder is only at level 9, ive done two lots of eight leve quests, plus the first two parts of the story quest.
Basically have to grind now until Monday if i want to progress my marauder skills, quite annoying really.
played this for first time last night, must say, seems very clunky, and controls are a bit strange! Still unsure how the combat system works, it just seems to fire arrows as and when :/
Think i need more time with it, only had about an hour last night. Any tips?
The map is a little weird too, not liking the idea of not being able to pan or zoom.
One thing i do like though, is that it doesnt give you any hints, just drops you right in it! how MMO's should be, no hand holding

ok to be able to mine, do you need to do any quests or can you just buy a pick axe and mine? do you need to learn how to do it first? same with every profession, can you do every profession or are you limited?

Just grab a pick axe and find somewhere to mine. You can generally see mass clusters of people where a node is. I would recomend picking up the mining tutorial if you are in Uldy though.
Its unlimited amount of professions same as how you can play any class. You are only restricted in that you can only do a set amount of leve's which is the best way to level your profession.
edit: I probably know the answer to this but it is physical level 10 that will activate the next chain of main story quests yeah?

Nope tried to start it at physical level 10, you need to get one of your other's up, in the end i did it with blacksmith 10, physical level was 14.

Can we use Anti Aliasing as iirc in FF11 you couldn't?!

Just got randomly kicked out of game and im getting the same login error as yesterday now when maintenance was up.
Aye seems to be down, to be fair i feel like i cant do anything else at moment anyway apart from grind ore or grind (the few) mobs.
IIRC you use IJKL to pan the map.
