***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

You must have have either a slow pc or bad net connection as only time I have ever experienced lag and the like as you describe is when I'm stood in the middle of LL at peak time when it's packed out. Even then it's not too extreme.

Will agree with you on the targeting you hit shift and it first toggles yourself, slightly annoying but just hit shift again and you target the mob.

Edit: silly iPhone predicitive spelling :p

I have to agree im starting to get fustrated as well now and we know im FF fanboi :D
Died 4 time killing jelly fish because my recieved is like 800-1000, takes like 3 seconds to engage a target by that time i lost 300 hp. My connection is fine i can play WOW,SC2,BFBC all with very normal gaming ping its just FF. And the amount of swearing re the targeting RAWRRRRRRRR :(

snip snip ...

These are also my gripes with the game.

The main one thats putting me off is how clunky the UI runs. For a game that focuses mainly on the crafting aspect, to actually create an item i have to equip said tools, which unless you make a macro for, takes ages to navigate through the HORRIBLE inventory system. Then after clicking Synthesize, i have to wait approx 5 seconds for the menu to load. Then a further 3-5 seconds for the next menu to load, be it clicking Requested Items or adding my own materials. Then.. each action taking around 5 seconds
- Select which tool im going to use
- Select what im making
- Confirm recipe
- Start making
- Each action.

I just find it extreamly off-putting that this happens, it takes an hours to do anything when it should take 15 minutes.
Adding to that time, I need to alt-tab (which crashes the game) to find any recipes. so atm, although i have 2 screens, i can't do anything with my 2nd montor, so having to use my laptop to do game research on.

I think, in general, if they made the game much more fluid flowing, specifically the UI/Combat/Menu systems, that they'd keep a lot more people playing.

Also the 36 hour cooldown on the quests is really frustrating. I, Like M0T, prefer to log in at weekends when im free, the fact i can only do 8 quests for the whole weekend really is annoying. imo reducing this to 24 hours would be lots better. That way you can log in each day and do your quests, crafting, exploring etc.. Will always have something to do that way.

Secondly, the targetting system, is horrible. I hate the fact you can target yourself when in combat, which lets face it, do you ever need to target yourself? even buffing abilities are smart-cast.

Other than those few moans, i am actually enjoying the game quite abit. the graphics are spot on, story-line is nice, quests are pretty decent although limited, i really like the ideas behind the crafting and the way its done and the abilities you learn in the lower levels 1-10 are all quite interesting (Archer)

EDIT: just so clarify, my PC is upto scratch, runs the game fine, i've tried changing the settings to lowand high and still getting all the UI issues i've stated. also my S/R is normally in the green, even in the large cities. Im guessing this is all to do with the servers ebing in Japan.

Also.. some Archer-related questions... Are any of you finding that regardless of how much damage the melee/tank is doing, you always seem to pull threat? In some cases, my friend has engaged the monster, hitting it for say 100, i'll then start my Light Shot and the isntant i 'cast' it, the mob starts heading towards me.
I find it really strange, as im not even doing as much damage as my Gladiator friend, and im pretty much at max range. Even using my threat dumping ability doesn't seem to work.

aaand another one, Everytime you level up, you get your point allotment and your elemental point allotment... What are other archers filling in their Elemental points with? as we don't seem to have any abilities that do elemental damage.. I've just got like 70-80 points saved up ready to burn lol.

Would certainly agree with 24hr CDs on leves. It frustrates me being home from working away and then only being able to do one set of quests the 2 days I am home.

That and the crafting system having no ingame recipe section are my gripes but as Indie says generally enjoying the game.

About the threat I have found I pull it quite easily but I assume it's just something I'm missing as I haven't done loads of group content.

Ele points as my archer I have just levelled up evenly, not sure what else to do with them :p

yeah i seem to be pulling from the tank even though im doing much less damage.. its really odd! i mgiht check the FFXIV forums or something to see if theres something wrong!

I might just do that, i think it increases resistances too so that will be useful i guess :)

Some points here are very well founded especially a lot that M0T has mentioned, such as the UI and recipe book, however other things can quite easily be improved or resolved:

Windowed Mode, you can select this in the configuration tool this seems to improve performance slightly and reduce the number of crashes, you can also alt tab, use other monitors etc.

Leves (Quests): You can do as many as you like, it's only you who are restricted to 8 per 36 hours. SE hasn't put much focus on it but it's trying to encourage party play, if you group up with someone else you can do several more leve quests if they have different ones. Furthermore if you go to another city you can group up with someone else and do all of there leves.

Myself and some friends just rotate the quests, traveling from the different cities and killing different mobs, if you want the most out of things you're going to have to group up. Solo is fine 0-15 grinding yourself up to 15 or so but after that, you'll want to be grouping.

Crafting is fun and in my eyes actually more enjoyable than fighting, I admit though I couldn't do it without my second monitor and looking at recipes but so far I've not had to buy a single piece of armor, just crafted it all myself. It feels very rewarding and satisfying and even greater benefit is generating a huge income from it.

Lag is so-so expecially around the crystals and in areas around the "repair NPCs" as they've become known, but this is because a huge amount of people are in a 20 foot square radius...outside of these areas it's pretty smooth. Improvements will come, they made FFXI into a streamlined game which didn't suffer from lag etc (FFXI Servers are all in Japan as well), I have no doubt they'll do the same with this.

If you buy any MMO from the start, you need to have the mindset it won't be perfect and yes I admit this is far from perfect but right now, it's fun and enjoyable. The quests are good, crafting feels rewarding. Improvements will come, changes will be made but it's just going to take a little bit of time. If you're not happy then try it again in 6 months.

Yeah i've switched to playing windowed mode but im not a fan of games in a windows, it just shouldn't crash :)

Yeah im in the hope that things will gradually change with time and patches. Had the same thing with WoW.. infact the only MMO that i've played from release that didn't pose a bunch of issues to begin with was Aion. It wasn't untill later where that game sucked ^^

but yeah, just wanted to share my experiences and thoughts on it so far. Its got a way to come yet, but im looking forward to the patches etc...

Good post Neloz. Pretty much agree with what you said and didn't know about being able to do others leves. That's a great tip!

you can do the leves but you don't get the rewards, only the bonus rewards.
Also you don't get that buff that gives you extra exp/points (i forget which)

I don't think i've done any solo leves yet, only ever done them with my housemate.

No, you don't get the full rewards of the quest.

You can get the Guardian Aspect buff which will give you more exp, this is triggered by touching the crystal after the party member has activated the leve and selecting it.

If you have any questions let me know...I'm close to 20 on a Melee and Crafting class now.

Getting extra xp buff is a bonus. Makes levelling a lot faster, I generally grind during solo leves just to get extra xp during the buff

Anyways where do you guys buy your crafting materials from for blacksmith, goldsmith etc?

Is there a market NPC that sells mats or am I stuck with trawling through peoples bizzares?

awh cheers dude :) didn't know that! be usefull now though i'll be shooting up in levels!

Think im just about to hit 17 or 18 :)

Miles ahead of me.

I work away 5 days so I'm only hitting 12 if I remember correctly. :(

I went up like 4 levels last night, just did all my leves solo and a bunch of crafting.. Got Carpentry up to level 10 :)

Quickest way to raise my physical level seems to be through crafting.. which is odd!

however it all starts to slow down around level 14/15

I usually leave my char hanging about in Gridania but decided to log out in Ul'dah last night. ANywy before logging i decided to check out people's bazaars. Wow the level of items crafter here is more diverse and of higher and better quality than Gridania!
i've now managed to upgrade my starting weathered hora (Pugilist starting weapon) to a Bone Hora. whoop! it's a lvl 6 item but still better than my previous lvl1! cost me 10K gil mind but that was for a +1 version and i saw another selling for 100K lol.
gonna browse some more tonight and see what bargains can be found :)

yeah i like the fact you can be constantly selling stuff :)

I hve a nice thong for sale at the moment, haha!

also brought ymself a robe.. its not really specced for an Archer, butttt it looks damn awesome when in combat!

I found the bazaar a complete nightmare. When the retainers sell through stick rather than auto remove them rmfrom the bazaar they are left standibh roubd. I searched for 15mins and every retainer I checked in that tine had nothing left to sell. Gave up in despair of finding anyone selling anything never mind selling what I actually wanted. Could be a little better managed ie. No stock the retainer leaves and perhaps certain areas fir certain items.

Certainly an interesting change from the usual AH system but not conpletely sold on it yet.

Edit: stupid I phone predictive. Sorry about the spelling but can't be bothered to correct it all :p
