***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Seeing as we're building a new stadium in real life, I might petition to have it named after me... seeing as I did take them up to the EPL.

Haven't really been playing much over the past week or so, getting very frustrated with the lack of genuinely strong regens. They're all bang average in the save and also the quality of players are dropping. For example, I bought a player from a French team when I was at Stockport at age 18. By 24 he was a World Class midfielder and worth around £30m with a five star rating. Now he's worth £14.75 and is three stars!

I'm still yet to see a club have a transfer offer turned down by the receiving club. The game is 25 seasons old and not one transfer bid rejected... hmmm.

I'm struggling with regens too. Have been for a while. Ive just manually searched the new regens on March 8th and the 13th and there were none at all. Very disappointing! Even the best new ones are 3 star tops. I have about 35 3.5 star listed in my best of list, and one 4.5 whom is with Man U but they wont let him go. That's it.

When you say transfers rejected what exactly do you mean?

Well whenever I see (or compete with) computer-controlled clubs bidding for players, I never see the selling club reject a transfer bid. IRL the clubs will bid and likely get rejected a few times, and then the buying team with either bid high enough to have their bid accepted or give up.

In FM the buying club just bids the perfect amount to have their offer accepted first time round.

Well, only if you were following the transfer or competing with them. The amount of times I've seen a player worth something like £5m who I want to buy, so I weigh it up and think that a bid of £9m would do (but I don't put the bid in). Then a couple of other teams who are also trailing the player come in and hit the nail on the head with a £16m bid and get their bids accepted.

IRL, a club would almost never get their first bid accepted unless ir was ridiculous. The selling club would know they could get more money out of the buying club, reject their first couple of offers, and then sell.

Nani (aged 33) just told me he wants a new challenge. We've just won the Champions League 2 years in a row and now he wants out.

Newcastle, Swansea and West Brom are interested. I'll sell him to whichever of those is weakest! :p

Just bought Alvaro Vadillo so I doubt I'll miss Nani too much. Looks like Vadillo will be playing as a right winger.

Happy with this squad for the upcoming season. They're all at nice ages with oldest being Rafael at 30.

I'll be shocked if I don't at least do the double.

I find it hillarious when your players want a new challenge - yet you are one of the best teams in the league.. I tell them to sod off :D

My QPR squad are struggling!! My god, that's a first. In over 10 years, I might not win the Premier League. I was knocked out of the CL in the quarters by Porto. I've only won 3 trophies so far this season..

Started a new game Portsmouth. 1st day and my transfer embargo is lifted, can still only sign played for £90 a week, that's ok, can get a handful of youth contracts and build my team around that. So, straight of, try and loan a young half-decent striker (Ryan Colclough) from Crewe, for free. Colclough accepted and all was groovy, yet the transfer couldn't be confirmed...none of my transfers could...is this a bug or am I missing something obvious here?

Pomp have NO money, none at all, you be able to offer contracts but in reality you can't sign anyone till the club is actually bought.

The game said the money had been payed back and I was able to operate in the market again. All I'm after is a couple of free loans for a season :( even they fail

Let's get this straight, I've never used an FM scout genie or live editor, BUT I did find out that you can see your own attributes as a manager by having look on scout genie. Turns out I'm ******* amazing! :D 200/200 for CA/PA and have pretty awesome attributes.

I did have a look to see if there was a player with 200 PA, and there was, and he is English. But he never got anywhere near 200 CA (I reckon he maxed at about 170) and also I had him on the bench when I was England manager but he never really materialised into a world class player. Now is 34 and Unemployed.

One very strange aspect of my save is West Ham United. They've never come close to winning anything (or than the Champ) but have huge financial resources. They pay 3 of the top 5 wages in the world (all over £200k pw) and managed to fork out £30m on a player from me as they got relegated!!

YES!! Just ran round my bedroom like I'd scored the winner in a Man U - Man City FA Cup final...My Portsmouth team just secured their 1st win in 14 games!! :D

Kind of glad I took this HUGE challenge...at first it was feeling like I'd bit of more than I could chew, now, it's feeling better and I know if I keep them up I'll feel amazing :D

Still having problems with getting any players.

Everyone I find to scout is **** and even when I put good offers in nobody accepts them.

Managed to lose to Swansea 4-0 in the first game too because all the current players are ****e too.

Does anyone else get to the point of retiring in their save? I find it hard to immerse myself in the game once all the real players are gone and it's 2030. :p

I got to 2035 as QPR and I was winning a lot of stuff every season including the CL. It wasn't boring at all BUT the problem I had was my team was so good that I couldn't find new talent. It got to a point that I would be lucky if I could find a single youth player to add to my list every season. 2.5 stars was the equivalent of a leading premiership player, so you can imagine finding 4 or 5 star potential youth was near to impossible. But I've also an issue with leagues/database sizes and I still don't really know how it all works. ie does having the minimum leagues BUT the largest database mean you still get access to all the players or not? It's very confusing.

Anyway, I put that save to one side and restarted in 2012 as unemployed, with sunday league experience. I am now managing a Blue Bet Premiership team after having made promotion. But the games are really tough. Every one is a challenge. At least there are LOADS of 5 star players available :D

One question - I have loads of blank black portraits instead of computer regenerated ones and real ones. Is there a way to replace the blanks with regen faces?

I have never got that far myself, how does retiring work? Does the game still generate results but without you?

Retiring means you leave the game as said manager BUT the season continues. If you want to continue the season you need to generate another manager. It means you can continue your save from where you left off and rejoin a different team or whatever. Actually, if you save it prior, it's a good way to see how other teams are fairing. What you find which is bizarre is that NO AI team has accomplished tactics. You have to build the tactics more or less from scratch. This proves to me that the game is more about the quality of the player than the tactics in the game.

You do realise the 5 star thing is relative to your position in the game?? So when you are a top top team finding proper talent is impossible because everyone in your team is so good to start with? So being a 5 star player isn't a standard label, just a reflection of potential/actual ability compared to the rest of your team....

On the CAFC front I came second in the champ after drawing the last 5 games and screaming at the team in a team meeting for just not playing towards the end of the season. Then again 4 back to backs with 2 league wins and 2 jpt's is still great going :)

Yeah I realise that 5 stars will be hard to come by, but only finding one or two 4 star youths per season was becoming frustrating. The regens have definitely been knocked down a peg or two since the patch.

I must enable my team talks but I find with so many matches it becomes tedious. I might enable them later in the season see how I get on.

If and it is a big if I get promoted into League 2 I will be totally stuffed. I have a small 2000 capacity stadium and no money.
