***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

No idea about the nationality one (twiddling my thumbs for canada to pull their finger out on this front as there's a BEAST I want to sign as a designated player)

Scouting though is always going to be dynamic as theres no way to be ahead of the players spawned... So your scouting is always going to muck about a lot. Wouldn't worry half the time you see the players you need to see anyway.

Yeah a bit, sometimes its just a hint to buy some players (had a kid appear across 2 clubs over about 5 years who I just had to buy in the end as he looks too good) and sometimes it's just scouts getting too stagnant.

You can send different scouts to double check or mix it up but there are limits to the scouting ability from foreign scouts (just like real life really)

Right no more MLS, won what I wanted and now I am done with Montreal Impact...

:) 2 down, not sure if I can be bothered to get the others and instead take Charlton out of the BSP back to real football (or Burton from the BSN)

For the record won 3 MLS titles in a row, the supporters shield twice (highest points in the league), one Canadian cup and one north American Champions League.

Ah some of those are really hard! How will you get the been at a club for 20 seasons one?? :p

The all the way up ones look amazing, have the english hero but I have no idea if I can sit through it in Brazil or Spain (they seem the hardest to crack) and I really like the idea of doing it in Scotland but without Rangers :D (mostly as its 2029 and the SPL looks the same as it always does now).

In my current save I started our as Kilmarnock and the won the SPL a couple of times. When I was poached by QPR I expected Kilmarnock to finish mid or low table with their new manager. It's quite difficult to keep hold of good players due to crappy wages but I was quite surprised. I've been with QPR for 7 seasons now and Kilmarnock have won the SPL every year since! Celtic seem to finish in second and Rangers generally in the top half of the table. So the youth players I invested in early appear to have worked out nicely for them! The new SPFL or whatever its called should be implemented in FM2014 and that will shake things up a bit I think.

It just goes to show how important it is to build a solid foundation. The first thing I did was build a strong back team and I noticed the other day that most of them are still with their club. Like decent scouts and investments in the facilities. They have also bought a new stadium, so they are doing really well.

That's amazing! I really should have gone to Scotland just to see what's going on there, took the Charlton job in the Conference Premier though, warm memories of Cafc in FM11...

The solid foundation thing is true 4 seasons after leaving Bishops Stortford and they have still win the prem once and gotten to the champions league final, despite selling all my best players :(, sometimes FM works out well. (more amusingly Sunderland have dropped to the BSP as well, nearly took them over with a 60k stadium at that level but cafc are more fun)

I'm starting a new game for each one mind.

I'm gonna cheat a bit for the 20 years one. i think it will take like 10 years to get English hero, then holiday bit by bit and make it to 20 years.

How am i going to do 30 games without conceding?!?! Might try with Rangers.

Ahhh, you know you can do English hero in 6 ;) (well I did that, with a lot of luck and squealing at the computer at each lucky promotion beyond L2)

I would like to think Rangers is just cheating on this FM :p but they would be ideal for a 4 season run to do the Scottish hero and the 30 games without conceding!

Oh and for the fun of it I took over Cafc at lunch time (having a lot to do and all at the moment), turns out they have no money and I have to release everyone to reshape the squad to get out of the BSP, going to be a fun season!! :D

I've let everyone (bar the captain) go who's on any money really, hung on to the good academy prospects and I'm gong to spend an hour this morning finding some squad players to get out of the conference fast!

Youth will come jan/in the future ;) now is all about a good solid start and getting to the champ asap

I hate that, it's really frustrating turning up and not being able to play the formations you want, had to tear CAFC apart due to a lack of anyone who could play 4-3-3 (well FM says it's 4-3-3 really).

Are you currently training the new guy into a new position? That usually fixes the problems for me...

They both can play AM and CM, it's just difficult to decide who to use - who has better attributes an cost a lot more, the other is more affective. He's only more affective because he's the best corner taker, I have a 6'9" striker, corners to the near post, goal. Scored from about 15 corners last season

I annoying am having this problem through the entire team. Have a four and a half star CM whose attributes really aren't that great and I have no idea why he's rated so highly. But he can also play RM in an accomplished role, so I'm retraining he to play RM perfectly as he has 19 acceleration and 18 pace.

How has the start to Charlton gone? What year are you in/what's the level of decent English players available? The issue I've found is that 15-20% of the players in the lower leagues are Croatian, Slovakian, Slovenian, etc.

Ah that sounds like a right pain, fighting between players who are effective and ones who should get good... I have given up with the potential ratings a bit as loads of players look good but turn out not to be frustratingly.

We're top after 20 games in the 2019/30 season the bsp! It's taken be 15 games to get a decent striker scoring, including signing up a temp stop gap with finishing 17, then suddenly it all falls into place! Apart of me wants to play all weekend, the rest of me is making me go out side :(

What is this? :D

My sister came round today for me to help her with her CV and she asked what I do all day? I responded "Well, I'm meant to be setting up a company, but at the moment I spend all day playing computer games... occasionally minimising the screen when my girlfriend is close so it looks like I'm working!"

I felt ashamed. Then I felt awesome!

Also, first day of the season tomorrow. I'm going to get withdrawal symptoms from playing football manager... by going to a football game. That's pretty sad.

Haha! That's amazing, though I have just had an interview and stayed in the suit to motivate my team through a lucrative FA cup 4th round away day at spurs (praying for tv to help out cafc).

I keep forgetting real football started last weekend as well, going to be gutted having to find time to play FM and go to games and do stuff in the week...

Yeah, I was so unimpressed that I had a weekend full of social activities. Anyway, back on the FM wagon this morning. I'm currently sat in third in the Prem with 10 games to go. Likelihood is that I'm likely to finish 3rd-6th, but last year I finished 6th and missed out on all European competition :( Also, my record states that I've won 8 competitions but I've just realised that I've won neither the FA or League Cup so far this save... just a load of pointless European Super Cups and World Club Cups. Into the 6th round of the FA Cup this season, so will give it a shot.

I've got that annoying conundrum though. My wage bill is low, second lowest in the league, but my stadium is only at 14,000 (new stadium is two seasons away from being built) so my turnover is crap. I'm spending loads on transfers but going down the route of paying about 20% up front with 80% of 48 months. To put it bluntly, I'm skint. :(

You in League Two with the Addicks yet?

I'm still glad the prem is off set with the rest of the league by a couple of weeks, one more weekend of mucking about on FM and not having to miss my train to west brom because of it... (I can see this happening). How have you not won the proper cups!??! They are always key to a good season, though I am making it my mission to win the Johnstones Paint Trophy next year or the year after as I always miss it on the way up!

It sounds like you need European football for that cash injection that suddenly opens so much to you, with Bishops Stortford it made them just about with with a 14k stadium (new build in the bsp so there was no room for expansion till 2033, which I am nearly up to worryingly).

Jan 2030 at the moment, 2nd in the bsp behind Sunderland at the moment! Depending on social obligations/job interviews I think I'll be into league football by the weekend... (hopefully with the FA trophy in hand again) and hopefully on the road to rebuilding cafc!

I don't understand how people are winning league titles and champions league titles with tiny teams with no transfer budgets. Are they cheating or something?

We all have too much free time on our hands and have made it to 2030.... :D

I never put any impetus on the domestic cups for some reason, always field reserve teams, although I've just got through to the FA Cup final this season to play a struggling Chelsea team. 15 points away from Champions League football too.

On another note, how's the job search going?

Ah got to win the cups! It's strangely satisfying getting to the final and jumping around like its a real final... United being relegated is amazing! Liverpool are 19th in my save and it would be amazing if they were relegated!

Job search is a bit hit and miss, a few temp jobs but nothing career wise sorted, didn't get todays interview either but so long as cafc don't get too engrossing before the end of the summer something should come up. Are you still able to get away without working??

Stumbled across a few players who "might be related to real life players" from the saints academy, there was another Ward-Prowse in there there as well much to my amusement.

Devastated!

Ruined my season after the fa cup 4th round away at spurs as I didn't shout at them enough for loosing 8-1, took weeks to regain form and we didn't score enough in the last few to overturn Sunderland's impressive form :(

Phew, won the playoff final

Board are disappointed I only got promotion (on goal difference at that) but pleased I over did it in the fa cup.

More comically

LIVERPOOL IN THE CHAMP!!!!!!!!! :D

All my hard work there :D Nice one with QPR as well!

I got to 5 prem wins in a row and went to do something different, they have won it twice since then, won the champions league this season and some cups I think, mostly with the players I bought in/team I built. Going to be a pig to dislodge them now...

Your own success coming round to bite you in the arse. I'm having the same probably with Stockport. I created a behemoth of a football team in Stockport, and now not only do they win everything but I can never get a result off them. And what makes it worse is that they're my rivals. So not only do I lose, but my fans and board throw the toys out the pram every time!

I'm having major moral doubts at the moment. Think it may be time to hang up (read: uninstall) again in order to rejoin the real world. Spent hours thinking about it last night, put together a massive plan of action today... and then have played FM so far! :p

Oh wow! I haven't gotten to the point where I have to play Bishops Stortford, that's at least 6 real life weeks away... It's pretty funny to think all your hard work is making the rest of the game difficult for you now though.

Ah I know the feeling, today was supposed to be really productive, it's been getting free players into Charlton. You know the real world isn't worth it yet! (though there is the Alan Partridge film...) :p

I also just renewed someone's contract until 2040! That made me shudder...

Seeing the AP film on Friday, and I'm off to the Pitchfork festival in Paris in a couple of months, but I've been told by my girlfriend that I'm not allowed to attend unless I do some work! Decisions, decisions. I've just managed to get Crewe into the CL for the first time and I have Real Madrid in my group. I can't not play this!

Wow! I haven't been looking at the dates (good old short contracts in lower leagues), that's madness though!

I had to google the pitchfork music festival but that looks amazing! Panda Bear is the oddest individual, when I saw him he did loads of new material on his own a bit awkwardly. Should pretend to do some work (or explain how FM is work) to go! Especially Crewe getting Real Madrid in the CL!!!!
