***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

I also think they have gotten lazy now that there is a league editor in the game.... they really need to complete South America correctly and also add Middle East leagues as especially the latter are more and more prominent now that cash is flowing out there.

I mean id rather have them active and realistic in picking up the older stars, as well as having the odd shock signing go out there in their relative prime ie Gyan.

I'd like better media coverage, fans/board expectations etc.

I started a league with Blackpool and Everton knocked me out of the League Cup, I was away and the board were unhappy with the loss, this stuff annoys me.

I haven't read the list of new features yet but I'm sure I saw a screenshot of the transfer funds page, and I think it looks like you'll be able to buy extra funds with real money??

Damn I really hate that :( You can do that in Fifa 12 on the iPad too :( Remember the days when you could just use a cheat code :p

I want realistic players. I want them to be raging alcoholic greedy self centres gits well some at least

How many players would knock back a bottom prem or championship team if they were currently playing league one fOotball especially if you offer to give them 10 times their current wage I also want the "ARSE" command back

Meh I know. Well, it's the impression I got from this screenshot:

I might be wrong, maybe it's a virtual cart/wallet...

I cant wait , although I'm probably a little addicted to it, I've bought every single release since championship manager back in the 90s

Whats wrong with UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT B A & START ??? :P

I dont know for sure about the DLC thing and how it works, was just mentioned in passing to me theirs was a pay to speed up , pay to gimmick method coming in... FM12 is a great game i play a lot of... upgrade is going to need signifcant reason for me to want to move over to FM13, this is the type of game i find buying every 2 or 3 years is a big jump.. otherwise not so much.

Right I think this screen shot clears up the confusion on DLC

Seems to indicate the bonuses can be bought if you can't put the time into the game/want to hammer short FM for a laugh but you can just unlock them for short FM by playing the game...

As always they're too late with the release, it should be the day the season starts. There's talk of a December release? :/

Don't they always say latest December but usually go for October/very early November??

I do think they should usually have most of this sorted by September and can do transfers and stuff for a late September/early October release otherwise it's missing a lot of decent time of being relevant.

Is nothing sacred from having this DLC **** in these days...and what very much looks to be pay to win!!

Can't wait for the "Manager's tie of the infinite : +10 to shouting volume" *sigh*

The DLC is for people who don't have the time to unlock the bonuses. How is this pay to win? It's also only for casual mode as far as I know.

Thought it was quite clear its to get the short game open at the start to try and recover the market of people who don't play any more because they don't have the time....

It doesn't look like key features are are locked or need to be unlocked with DLC, just a bonus to make the game accessible for those without the time

Bonuses lol. There shouldn't be any "bonuses" in this game at all. It's about managing a football team - lump it or like it!

I'm sorry, but the time spent on this game has always been down to the individual. Turn on your PC and play for 30 mins or 6 hours, it's up to you - northing's changed while you weren't playing it!?

Why has this time honoured way of playing any game suddenly in need change do you think? Because it's another way of fleecing people out of a few quid extra. That's all well and good for those who are ok with that, but it's a slippery slope....and yes it is, paying to win.

People should just hook themselves up with a free cheat online if they don't have the staying power or "the time to play much", or want instant gratification in a game.

But (for the last time) it is not paying to win! It is a feature of the quicker FM.

They seem to have created 2 main game modes, a longer "traditional FM" (The one we all loose weeks too) and a shorter "classic FM" which is more like the portable version and lighter.

The idea of the bonuses is you can apply them to the shorter game so it is a bit less realistic/more fun for the casual gamer. Now you can pay a couple of quid to have them right now, or earn them by playing the game for a longer period of time.

It is very much like paying for steam achievements that happen to have an in game bonus. I really doubt any one is going to bother paying up the cash because you can just unlock most the bonuses from a couple of seasons of game play.

It is very much not paying to win the game quicker. It's not like you can pay a quid to have a world class assistant manager take you up the leagues in the long game mode (Colin Hendry used to be that cheat from the older ones) to get Bath to the premier league in record time.

No point worrying about cheats, the ME will be exploited soon enough... probably from corners again no doubt, so you can guarantee yourself a 100 goal a season man.

From the announcement

Elsewhere, you’ll be able to unlock additional modifiers to give yourself a mid-season boost, topping up your funds during the transfer window

If that is not "pay to win", I don't know what is. It is also charging for something that is free in FM12.

I'm sorry, but to me it looks like you and a couple of others have been sucked in by all the marketing speak..

The slippery slope I mentioned is that over time this game will be dumbed down to the lowest possible denominator (those that have a five minute attention span), due to the money brought in from people buying these so called "bonuses".

The money earning potential won't be denied and we'll all have to accept some of this **** in time as it's trickle fed in FM...and all for a little bit more profit for the company, and we can all thank those that in all likelihood, simply shouldn't be a football manager, even if it's only in a game.

Another good game wrecked.

It's not ;).

Pay to win is a term used in competitive MP games, these are essentially cheats, DLC editing, stuff that was free in single player games 10 years ago, but the reality is now they're not. Yes they're dumb, I'm with you on having no intention of ever paying for this kind of thing, but what's the actual issue with it being there? They quite clearly exist as a way to find potential extra revenue, why is that such a big deal? I do hope that one day we get over this sense of entitlement that turns us red at the idea of companies wanting to make money.

Seems to me they've done things the honourable way, instead of putting existing features behind a DLC barrier, they made sure that anyone who wants the same experience they've had for years can still have exactly that. If in any way players couldn't have the old FM experience, then the argument against might make some sense. But they can, so what does it say that you're still finding a reason to moan?

In any case, I've always found messing with the game like this to be the quickest way to stop it being fun, if you really must then get hold of FMRTE when it comes out. Or just leave both alone, nobody is losing options with these additions, although the amount of whinging going on could lead one to think that.

* As pointed out in the post above this, it is paying to win.

As pointed out repeatedly, to a point of frustration, it just isn't.

The main game (FM we all know and love) you don't pay to unlock bonuses. The mini game, "FM classic" as they have called it, you can apply bonuses if you want to play a quicker gamer. The game gives you the option to buy these bonuses if you want to dip your toes in without putting the hours into the main game, but you can just unlock them for playing the main game.

Couldn't be any clearer how the (and I have to stress this now) MAIN GAME has nothing extra to pay for, ever. So this isn't a move to paying to win (unless you are rubbish at FM)
