***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

I've done little else over the past two weeks than play this game.

Took Fulham to fifth and into the Europa Cup, quit, took over Brentford and taken us up into the Championship and currently sitting in third in January - first season in that league.

I've realised you have to be spot on with your tactics, player roles and style of play - really quite disciplined. Hoping to go up this year to the EPL if possible, try to survive off my current squad without spending stupid amounts and see if I can get £30m+ in the bank. If I survive the drop, great, if not then I can build an awesome squad of regens!

I couldn't win. I went on a 7 game streak without winning. Just felt it was time to move over. So now I applied for each job possible, and I have narrowed it down to two:

Option 1:
NikiMicallef_NewsInbox-5.png

Pros:
- The team is pretty good.
- I am predicted 2nd(!)
- The league has a 3 1/2 * reputation
- If I do well, I can qualify for the Copa Libertadores, which will be the first step in the Pentagon Challenge
- Increased reputation

Cons:
- Insecure finances
- Little transfer budget
- WAAAAAAAAAAAY over wage budget
- Selling may mean getting rid of my best players, and thus making the whole 'adventure' useless lol.

If it wasn't for the finances, I would go here.

Option 2:

Pros:
- A lot of money, meaning I can slowly make a good team and aim for the top.
- Good wage budget too.
- Still in the cup

Cons:
- 3* league
- Still a European team, so I am no closer to finishing the pentagon challenge
- Not considered a top team, so I will not play in a continental competition for some time

Option 3:
I applied for many more jobs, but I was only offered bad ones. I applied for a S. African team, so maybe they can take me? (although not a top team).

Option 3 is wait for a better job lol.

I've had a bit of a break from FM, decided to de-stress and then start with a new team and new tactics, I picked Bilbao, I've only made one tactic for them and just changed the work rates to make more defensive/attacking versions and so far it's working quite well. I've lost two league games so far but won every other match including the matches in the Europa League. I sold Llorente in the summer transfer window and brought Benat in for the midfield, in hindsight I probably should have waited until the window closed and then listed Llorente for sale. I didn't want him messing up the squad harmony though and I didn't want to run the risk of him signing a pre-contract with another club in January and then leaving for bugger all in the summer so I got £20,000,000 for him from Arsenal.

Highlights so far have been a 6-0 win for me against Atletico Madrid, lowlights have been a 2-0 loss to Sociedad and a 4-2 hammering at the hands of Valencia. Though the team defended terribly and the ref gave them a penalty that never was.

I went with Estudiantes, and the state of the club is horrible. There are no players I can remove to get back with wages (without selling my best players).

The game crashed when it was processing, so obviously it didn't save. I think I'll go to Turkey :P

Would have gone for option 3 :p

I think I have broken Bishops Stortford. 25k per week in L1 isn't enough to put a squad together, look class going forward, BEBE and that regen 17 year old should be class along with a well stocked midfield. Only managed to get 1 cb in and a back up lb...

Going to be leaking goals past Jesse Joronen :(

There were a lot of jobs available in the USA, and a few in S. Africa, but they were all with Relegation teams, so I decided against it. There was a good job in S. Korea. 3rd place Busan had no manager. They finished 3rd with 80 points. 1st place had some 108 points, so I decided against it xD

started a game with doncaster rovers and getting absolutely battered with injuries, couple of players out for 3-4 months, 2 more for between 4-6 weeks :(.

14 games in, chairman expects promotion (no idea what hes been taking) currently lying 10th dropping from 4th after a hammering :(.

For some reason Granada are third in La Liga, it's December and they beat me in the game which would have saw me leapfrogging them! Hopefully some other managers will be sacked soon and if I do well in Europa and manage to take a top 3 spot in the league I'll be offered a job with another team. Only signing Basque players is a right pain, the chairman just gave me an extra £11,000,000 transfer budget so now my total transfer budget is £30,000,000 or something silly and we're over £100,000 a week under our wage budget.

Sorry forgot too scroll up and double check :(

Humm that is odd, what sort of squad status are you offering? And is there a lot of competition for the places they want?

Yeah it's really strange. Doesn't matter what squad status I offer and not much competition for places for any position. Remember these are all youth players that were released by clubs during the off season. None of the players I have looked at are over 18.

I read all the posts, but I don't always answer them all, as it would take me ages! :P

Possible glitch here:

I got both messages on the same day. i couldn't answer the contract offer. Not sure why but oh well. :(

No worries, I don't answer all the posts either!! But I do enjoy reading the various things. THe only thing I keep away from is recommended players.

Lol awwwww... :p

So shouting WHO ARE YA! at my computer with a beer in hand is apparently not a legitimate thing to do on a thursday evening...

But for the first game of the season away at villa in the league cup I jumped out of my chair in excitement for the first time in ages on FM... :D 4-0 up at one stage and couldn't believe what I was seeing, villa aren't that good in real life and seem even worse on fm...

I keep giving the game a go, but still struggling to get into it. Don't want to have wasted £30

Loved all the previous incarnations, and spent hours on them. Hopefully something will just click, just need a good game with the right club.

I'm so nearly done with this game... started a season as Ajax, wanting to really put effort into this as in adapt to different opponents and their formation etc.

50 minutes into a match... Siem De Jong scores and the ball gets stuck in the net... the game fast forwards to the end of the match with no other activity what so ever.
