***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

I'm starting to get really annoyed with this game, it doesn't matter what tactics I use, what team talks I use, what shouts I use, I just find my team playing incredibly inconsistently. I started a fresh game with Stuttgart, sold a few of the rubbish players, brought in a few free players and signed a couple of promising ones, a new assistant manager and I brought in Michael Ballack for my back room as well.

Found myself beating Dortmund twice, and Bayern once in the league, but losing to utter, utter rubbish like Ausburg and Furth. The stupid thing is I would be leading against those teams by 1 or 2 goals, but they would suddenly make a comeback and nothing I did would change what was happening in game. I tried using my defensive formation and setting to counter, I tried just going fully defensive, I tried attacking, I tried controlling, absolutely nothing would work despite me having a better player in every position. Sure, the best teams don't always win in real life either but it was like they flipped a switch and nothing I did was going to affect the outcome of the match.

At least half of my games seem to go this way, I have no idea what to do now, I've even tried using downloadable tactics from FM Base and nothing is working out for me at all. :(

How does this years compare to last years?

How good is the new match engine etc?
Nothing new as such (but is that not in every series?) but its still quality, as always.
You got really lucky against Ajax? They dominated possession but your defence had a really solid game and there's must have had a nightmare.

Might be :P My def is 'ok' tbh. Wandwaka (sp?) is a beast. When i got him (frewe) he had a value of 60k. Now he is worth over 2.5M.

I was very frustrated when I started playing as well. The new update seems to have made things better and I am enjoying it more since then, in fact I am nearly finished through my first season when I thought at one stage I would never play it again!!

I think the biggest thing you can do as a manager is choose three tactics. Take a good look at the players you have and decide what you want to play. For example, I have two main tactics, 4-4-2 and 4-2-2-2 balanced and standard on both. Then I use a third tactic 4-2-2-2 with balanced and defensive.

The reason I do this is that I have only two DM subs and one Left midfielder and one right midfielder. So to shake things up in games I change from one to the other. If I want to go defensive I use the third tactic. Besides the fact that I have no transfer money and no wage budget.

Anyway this is what I have learned, you cant keep switching tactics, it doesn't work, players need a few weeks to get used to a certain way to play. If you are a manager who likes to switching between defensive and attacking styles of play during a game, then I suggest you pick one tactic and have the same tactic as backup twice, one backup with defensive style and one backup with attacking style. This way your players will be able to switch between them easily.

What I am trying to say is if you want consistency from your team you have to be consistent as a manager. I never switch to defensive or control or attacking etc in the middle of a game, I just use the shouts.

Where you get Bola, I can't find him on my save?

He was at MVV when I joined. He joined in the 12-13 season, so I think he didn't have a club before.

Here is a picture of his history:

And here are his stats in my save, in 2015/2016 season:

I do have a lot of leagues active though:

I started de-activating the lower reputation ones, like the Blue Square, Serie C2 etc.

found him! He has quite poor stats at 19. I have Max Clayton who is a similar age and has mental stats for his age...worth a measly 4.5M

Beat Southampton 5-0 then play Wolves in the Carling Cup with the same side 4 days later and lose 0-3... *rage quit*

It turns out the team meeting feature has more influence over player form than I thought it did.

Had to run a test with playing the same fixture twice in a week (Plymouth away in l2 followed by it in the fa cup 2nd round). My results showed that putting out pretty much any combination of the team lost the second game if I didn't talk to them a few days before about how well they are playing. Do a team meeting though and I won every time (after beating them in the league game)

Sounds like an odd conditional moment to test things out but it was really bugging me how the game wanted me to manage the situation (and one of those things I have to know without finding out/reloading like a boss moments).

So yeah, come across a stupid fixture, hold a team meeting to improve player performances in the hidden moral section. Thought everyone sort of needed to know what FM13 wants from you some times in these sort of moments so you on't end up shouting at it a lot.

I started with Boreham Wood. Just picked a team at random from the Blue square south league. It's great playing a team you know nothing about, I think it's more exciting, also it lets me be more objective because I don't know the players I will pick them where I want not where I know they play in real life, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, things didn't start off too well with the friendly games, lost all 5 friendly matches, was hammered in them all. Very disappointing, but I stuck with the same 4222 and 442 formations throughout. I had no transfer budget and no wage budget, so my options were really limited. After trawling through loan player after loan player finally got a decent defensive midfielder. But, its really hard to get any player to come on loan. Even league 2 reserve players have no interest in getting first team football, preferring to sit unplayed game after game on their own team. In fact the only players who were anyway interested in coming on loan were blue square premier players and even then those players seemed to be all transfer listed and listed for loan.

I think that's a little unrealistic, surely young players in league 1 and league 2 would be very interested in getting some first team football?? Maybe I am wrong.

Well, I won my first league game of the season despite been underdogs. Was very happy with that after the very bad results in the friendly matches. Things went from good to better from then on. Went on a great run and was unbeaten until December, including FA trophy and FA cup games. Best game of the run was beating Leyton Orient to reach the third round of the FA cup with a money earning home Tie against Watford in the third round.

Some things I learned about my team along the way, I reckoned I had on decent striker and two completely useless strikers. The previous manager or whatever must have thought the same because they were both marked as not needed by the club when I started with the team. These two players are my best scorers by far, one of them has scored in every game of played. I haven't played in a 0-0 draw yet. In fact I only have played in one game where I failed to score and that was the last game I played today which was the FA trophy semi final against forest green, I lost 1-0, but won 2-1 on aggregate.

Back to my season, I didn't lose a match until near the end of December and then I lost two in a row. I was really disappointed with the second loss. The other team didn't have one player with condition over 35% and this was at the start of the game!! I thought I was in for an easy win. It was the most frustrating game!! 21 shots, 14 on target, 70% of the possession. They had 2 shots, 2 shots on target. I lost the game 2-0.

The New year started and I seemed to get over the shocking defeat I had and won the opening game. And I got ready to welcome watford in the FA cup. I won, 1-0. Couldn't believe it. They had a man sent off and another player taken off with a serious injury, my FA cup fairy tale continued!!

Things were going well in the league too, winning just enough to keep my nose infront. The unbeaten run at the start of the season has really been helping me here. The only thing is my players need rest all the time now. Every match four or five players have that orange rst beside theirs names, even though their condition might be over 90% Playing in three competitions is hard on a small club!!

The FA cup draw signalled the end of my run in that competition. Chelsea away!! Not a hope, and I did lose, but, the team did really well, we lost 3-2. Amazing game. They did miss a penalty though. But, I am not too sad about it, got £750,000 in gate receipts haha not too shabby!!

Currently my season is in the middle of March. As I said earlier, just after beating Forest GReen to reach the FA trophy final. It's against Southport. It would be nice to win, but, I think my luck is running out. I am losing and drawing games more often now, and because of my cup runs there are a lot of games piled up together. The last league game I played I had no strikers to pick from and no central defenders, had to play players out of position to fill the spots. I was beaten 2-0, no surprise there!!

Going to be interesting to see can I hold on and get promotion to the Blue square premier. It's very close now at the top, only 3 points in it, but I do have a game in hand. Will I win the FA trophy? Will I have to make the choice to rest players for that game so I have a good team out in the next league game. Tough times ahead!!

^^ niceeee! That's pretty impressive.

Turns out the jump from BSP to L2 is HUGE and I am struggling to get players in, especially when I have 7k per week to play with :(

Make sure you get 4 GOOD season long loans, with no cash towards his wages, there's many. It's the most important thing to do at that level, unless you spend a lot of time finding a diamond in the rough.

I had two seasons at wolfsburg after winning the scots prem with rangers, struggled to beat any o the top 7 finished 6th both seasons. Bayen munich then approached so i jumped at the chance! wolfburg sold there best players and got average championship players and they thrash me everytime...

Ive had Mandanda, Reina and Handanovic as my 3 Arsenal keepers in (now my 4th season).... Mandanda lasted 1 year, Reina had 2 (the 2nd he just fell to pieces) and now Handanovic is just about alright.

Cant get consistency with keepers, although playing just 2 at the back don't help :D

Hi guys, for anyone interested in my Newcastle game, i've updated my vlog and this time i focus a bit more of the tactical side of the game.
If you're new to my videos, it's basically a network game between 2 other mates, one that is Man UTD and the other that is Arsenal.

For best quality go into youtube and use the HD option

I have been doing well with MVV. After 20 games, I sit 6th, which is not bad (although I have dropped down from 3rd, after losing 2 games in a row :().

I feel its time to leave though. At the end of the season, I will leave MVV and start winning the Continental titles. Africa, Asia, N. America, S. America, Europe. In that order (unless I get amazing offers).

I was looking at the best African clubs, and I found that the only possible African league is the South African one, and they do really bad in their Champions League. The best teams are the Egyptian teams and Tunisian. Are there some un-official patches I can add to get them in? And can I add them mid-game?

EDIT: I found this, but I can't get it to work :(

I've given up on this. Wont be playing it again until they release an update that fixes it.

£30 well spent.

Is it just completely random for everyone else as well? I've tried pretty much everything and still can't string consistent performances together from any team that I've used.
